Episode 246 - The Wrestling Episode w/Brad Balukjian
Was a batboy for the San Diego Padres back in 1971 to 1973. I remember sitting on bench next to Dave and we chatted. He said "Bucky" (my nick name then) I am going to do something big, I feel it Bucky" Referring to the fact he felt soon his career would explode -- he was right (ofcourse after he left the losing Padres). He was a nice guy to be around.
Thanks so much for playing Daily Walkoff, we so appreciate your support! 🙌
Stupid headline.
It's better to let people think that you are stupide, then open your mouth and remove all doubt. Karma finds a way.
What the fuck is that “brown uniform” supposed to mean?
That was some real stupid clickbait.
Those brown uniforms were awesome.
Ryan is a scum bag. It’s ok to throw a 100 mph pitch at a batter, and he shouldn’t do something about it?
He just wanted a hug.
Nolan Ryan could normally get away with throwing a ball at a batters head in the 80's. Dave Winfield just wasn't one of Em.
You sound like such a dumb ass 😂😂
Is there a more meaningless stat than winning the All-star game?... When people asked Ken if he was George's brother, he'd say: "Yes AND I won an All-star game"
Bought time Ryan got a whoopin !
and you were intending to hurt him with the throw!!!??? You get what you get.
I mean, a pitch can definitely get away from you, but not from Nolan Ryan 😂
Has any hitter ever taken the bat out there and hit the pitcher with it?
Doubt it, but I do remember a Dodger maybe it was Pedro Guerrero can't remember, who flung the bat towards the pitcher's mound when Mets pitcher David Cone hit him with a curveball. Earlier on the count, Cone threw a fastball inside and they both had a stare down afterward.
I think it was the late 80s when Ryan (Rangers) threw again at Winfield (Angels). That occasion, Winfield did not hesitate to charge the mound. Ryan, to his word, did not hesitate to wrestle him a bit. I don't think much happened but Winfield made the point that he can still tangle. Ryan, never a slouch, would have agreed with that all the same!
"mother"
Gary Maddux
Glenn Hubbard - i thought it was a guess.the player and you tell us if its right. Gotta do the Jay Johnstone budweiser hat card from that year
6'6" 230 lbs, that's a linebacker comin' at ya
Delay blitz from Winfield here! I'd forgotten that these two were both in the national league for 1980. Winfield will go to the Yankees the next year and Ryan would remain in Houston for several more. Eventually these two had a reunion in the late 80s where Ryan (Rangers) threw at Winfield (Angels) once again. This time there was no hesitation from either man, though nothing serious emerged from the scuffle.
Reminds me of Andre Dawson going after Eric Show.
Andre wasn't far off Winfield's physical resume. I can't for the life of me visualize Show coming out the better from that one! Dave Parker also got some seam shaving from Ryan in the '79 all star game I believe. Whatever one thinks of the brushbacker, nobody can claim that Nolan shied away from baseball brutes!
Mantle
Brewers been bru-tal vs. Reds - hope they taunt more in '25 for results like this - ha.
Hopefully Yelich will hit another cycle against them😂
Fvck off Jootube.
Oh look, there's Andre the Giant's twin brother, Tattoo.
This player seems to be a good player so far.... too bad he belongs to the generation of clowns who are not serious in their game and mocking and have little respect for the game between gentlemen... if he continues like this they should pass him to the Padres.
ur just a hater
Lol, you actually kept qb and swapped safety and tackle in your guesses
I only see a certain type who carries the bat out to the mound. Zero thought and zero respect for anything around them.
No one cares what you see.
@Say-hey24 Plenty of people do, actually. And you'd know that if you spend any time online, which I'm sure you do. Now cope harder 😁
He dropped the bat before getting close to the mound, so what are you whining about? Nevermind. No one cares what you think.
@@THE-HammerMan Obviously you care 😅
@flutebasket4294 No, actually I don't. At first, yes, I wanted to point out he dropped the bat on the way towards the mound... but you should have seen that yourself. Phhht!
@7:00... Get outta here!! There's also number and name connections to Valenzuela. They had the pre-game ceremony dedicated to him. Teammates called him Freddy ...Freddie hit the homer. Fernando passed at age 63. Homer gave the Dodgers the win 3-6.
You do know he led the MLB in strikeouts and errors, right?
Led in Caught Stealing as well.
That doesn’t matter if he hits
@@josefelixproductions6701it does because hitting isn’t everything
@@Yeli_CY22 u know I’m talking abt hitting only bcuz Ik defense also matters alot
Yep
Ryan needed his ass kicked. I'm sorry that Winfield didn't connect.
I always believed the ball was supposed to be thrown over the plate . The batters box is for the hitter. If the pitcher is trying to intimidate the batter by throwing at the batter in his territory what recourse does the batter have ? His style was bullshit IMHO and he could do it because a 100 mile fast ball wouldn't just maim you but ribs and elbows count . Sandy Koufax didn't need to pitch that way and he was a far better pitcher for the 6 year stretch before he retired . He had far better command of his fast ball and his curve ball was unlike any pitcher of his era .
@@lar7905 Agree 100%.
That was Christian Yelich mom?nWOW! 😍❤️🔥
"That ball had a family" 🤣
Trade him to cleveland. The reds are gonna waste his talent.
Why’s there a joint in the starting pic click bait ?
So the title is just complete yap
thats a dumb ass take. fan takes are garbage. the world doesnt benefit from influencers or youtubers
That’s a big man charging you
de la Cruz is from the Dominican Republic. Everyone from the the Dominican Republic is a steroid user. He's a hack and doesn't deserve accolades. However, the steal of 2nd, 3rd and home on only two pitches.... WOW! Nice! I doubt that will be repeated - ever!
Elly should be banned for being good?
stupid ass take right?
Elly is the hombre. Lets go elly
Finally someone who can actually run in baseball lol
Cant believe i saw this ..i was at this game wen i was 13 years old ...funny
Steve Garvey with one of the first bat flips ever recorded.
Ryan is lucky the ump got in the way, I would have been in the damn bullpen as soon as Winfield made his move!
Yeah , like Mr. May could intimidate Nolan Ryan . Spare me . Happy Trails
@@KentBallantyne The point being made that you responded to was that most athletes don't want to run through ump's or refs in a sports game. That kind of thing leads to serious fines and suspensions even when contact is accidental. So no, the vast majority of umpires , refs, officials are not going to intimidate anybody but they often stop or at least delay confrontations between athletes on the field, ice or court.
Never liked Winfield.
Ryan threw that pitch right at his face.
Happy birthday Dave!
If you gonna throw at someone, let it not be Dave Winfield
Nolan Ryan was no slouch but if these two ever really went at it as in premium hockey fight style, I'd be giving 2:1 odds on Dave!
When they ran on the field and didn’t just push each other around
