Hell yeah
Heartfelt, thank you. Great song.
I don’t know how this popped up on my feed but if that’s your music in the background I’ll be waiting for that EP - will you be on Spotify?
Just heard it on MeatEater and I love it! Virginia houndsman here!!!
Hell yeah 👊🏼🔥
Have you got a chance to listen to Jamey Johnson's new album yet?
Just came from meateater, had to hear it again
Here because of Meateater. Everyone needs to hear this song.
Just heard this on meat eater. Great song hits home!!
Are you telling us the shit we already know? Please son
Yes sir!
Not sure why this popped up in my suggestions, but I like it. Good tune man. I wish you the best.
I knew it was AI when I heard it, but it doesn't bother me a bit. He still had a part in it and I dig it..
I was absolutely devastated to hear the news. Honestly, I STILL am!! The SteelWoods have been my favorite since 2016, back when nobody had even heard them yet. The voice on Wes is beyond amazing . He hasn't been the same since losing Rowdy. I've noticed a huge difference in his stage presence and overall happiness and maybe even confidence. Wes is a great man and they've all done their best to keep it together. I'm grateful for the time we did have but I'll always want and need more. ❤
Gary, ronnie, and Allen were skynyrd
Sounds gooooood
Love, love, love Gene Watson
💯
Should have not made this, you really have nothing to say, just riding on the Skynyrd entrails
Good to see you !
She can do what she wants and call it what she likes but it ain’t country. BTW, I’m 60 and grew up in that era with Elton playing Tiny Dancer.
A real cowboy wrote Elton's songs.
You’re absolutely correct!!!
Lynyrd Skynyrd has always sucked and still suck. Worst band ever
Sneaking a quick listen at work here in Lexington, ready to head back home to the hills of hazard for the weekend. Hope you have a good one!
Hey Thanks man! Hang in there it’s almost Friday!
I'm on four 10's man, it's like a sore dick....hard to beat!
Who became their producer after Al Kooper. Was he British?
Hell Yeah!
You have the best voice
Great podcast and great takes Allen Wayne. I’ll be checking it out.

Jason Isabel - This dude cracks me up - He thinks he's some kind of "Southern Music" spokesman - He isn't - & I don't care about his politics - I don't care about any of these people's political beliefs - Most of these entertainers are so out of touch with working people they haven't a clue what the avg Joe goes thru - Woke is a joke
His Drive by Truckers songs were Awesome
🤌🔥 Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
🍻👊
One of my most favorite songs ever. We listened to it tonight actually.
Don't forget Bob Burns! He had the connections.
Lol......WRONG. basically after 3rd album together. Al thought if they continued to work together it would destroy their relationship and they parted ways amicably. Two full years after simple man was put on a record.
What A Sad Sad Story about Mr. Allman, You Make it back home from A War, And this Happens......As Far as the story goes, You Told it The Way I heard it, And Gregg Told it, Music has A Strange way on how things work out , Ya , Duane and Jaimoe were the first members starting the ABB, As the story goes, Gregg was the last Member to Join the Band, When Gregg got to Muscle Shoals, Duane told Him, I want you to play A Hammond Organ, Gregg said, I Only played one of those a few times, Well he Became the Great Organ Player, The rest is History, Also, After Duane & Berry Died, Gregg was in A World of Shit, I Can Feel His Pain, I believe at that Point that Dickey , Having songs written, and bringing in Chuck Leavell, on Keyboards, Kept this Band alive and Boosted them to keep going on and Becoming a Household Word, Thanks, Cousin Figel
This video seems to be pointless
😊😊😊😊😊😊
Love the deep voice, sounds great, Derby
This takes me back to my childhood, spending time at my grandparents house in the country… I don’t know this song, but it sure does remind me of the good old days I spent there ❤ Amazing voice as well! 😊
‘Don’t ever turn your back on Gary Rossington’ - Ronnie Van Zant.
Amazing!
Lynyrd Skynyrd was and STILL is my favorite southern rock band. I do like all of the other Jacksonville bands but to me Skynyrd started it all. RIP Gary rossington...you might have been a simple man, but now your flying to the heavens like a freebird. I saw Skynyrd with zz top and uncle kracker here in the Sacramento area and they were awesome. Skynyrd nation forever. God bless 🙏
Al Kooper was not fired over Simple Man that is 100% false. Yes Ronnie and Al disagreed about Simple Man but he was fired over it
Al Kooper was not fired because of a dispute over Simple Man... which appeared on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first album. Yes, there was a dispute on whether to include the song on the first album or save it for a future album. Al Kooper went on to product two additional albums for the band.
Al Kooper made these guys famous. Simple as that. If Al Kooper never entered the picture there likely would have not been a Lynyrd Skynyrd with the quick success that these guys had. By quick i mean since he went to see them and took them on.
To say they were poor and from the slums or the "hood," is not only insulting to them but to their families. Not from ritzy neighborhoods, but nice families and homes. I guess saying so, makes good press. Went to the same junior high as Allen and Gary, and they sure weren't poverty cases. LOL.
Allen's family had money.
Westside of Jacksonville was not the slums. It is now. That has been greatly exaggerated. I know I’m from there
Disagree abt it bein an insult to them, wouldn't say they were poor but I do know what it's like to grow up as a child of a trucker. I am very proud of it but money was always tight. We had most of what we needed but getting what we wanted was few & far btwn. Lacy had family of 7, mine was only 4 so they probably had it a little worse. Allen's family did have money but they divorced when Allen was young & so he was raised by a single mom. His dad was only around a Lil & did buy Allen some equipment but as Allen said, Larkin only came around when Skynyrd started makin money & the checks came Rollin in. Gary's dad died when he was 8 so raised by single mom, I believe he had 3 sisters so I would say fair to day they were lower middle class. They did not fire Al over Simple Man, the guys just decided that's gonna be on the album. Ronnie knew Al needed to go to New York for business so he escorted him to his car & said we'll call you when it's done. Al ended up liking Simple Man. He went on to produce Second Helping & Nuthin Fancy before they parted ways Overall I really enjoyed what you said, esp abt Gary as he is highly underrated as a guitarist esp considering he & Allen basically learned guitar from each other & they also practiced together every day, teaching each other a dong or part of a song they had learned. They both had minimal teaching but started playing together before they were bandmates. Another thing I find fascinating is that when Allen & childhood friend Larry Steele started their 1st band, The Mods Allen did not want to play lead guitar, he was mostly in it for the first early on & probably didn't have the confidence. Just think it's ironic he has what is considered one of best guitar solos in history!
Thank you brother for setting the record straight. Ronnie was a country singer fronting a pure rock and roll band. He sang from the gut which most singers DON'T do. He was trying desperately to clean up his act and hired his childhood friend to help him accomplish this. Gene Odum didn't smoke, drink, or use drugs EVER. His voice was the last voice he ever heard. Gene had to slap him just to buckle him in a seat.. Ronnie thought it was a joke but IT WAS NOT! RONNIE UNBUCKLED his seat belt and died of affiliation.. For years he had told people he would never live to see 30. He would have turned 30 in January 1978. For all things Skynyrd, I would suggest subscribing to either "Hangin' with Gene Odum or Craig Reed's "The Stoned Roadie Show" on TH-cam. Thanks for your comments. TerryL
Thank you Allen, awesome job in bringing to light many of the hardships L🐊S had to endure and to think Gary was the Last Rebel that carried the torch all these years is phenomenal and makes me proud that I choose him as my main guitar influence, when I heard solos like Breeze and On the Hunt back in ' 75-'76 Fly Loud&Proud Mr.Rossington , thanks for all the great music you shared with the world!!!🎶 🎶🎶Sweet 🎸Guitar 🤘✌️🐾
