However, both Arab and Indian influences played distinct roles: Arab Traders • Early Introduction of Islam: Arab traders, particularly from Yemen and the Persian Gulf, were among the first to bring Islam to Southeast Asia. They had strong maritime trade networks linking the Middle East to Southeast Asia via the Indian Ocean. • Islamic Teachings and Sufi Influence: Arabs introduced Islam through peaceful means, often blending it with local customs. Sufi missionaries, many of Arab origin, were instrumental in making Islam appealing to local populations by incorporating local traditions. Indian Traders • Indian Muslim Merchants: Indian traders, especially from Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, played a significant role in spreading Islam. Gujarat’s Muslim merchants were heavily involved in spice and textile trade, which connected them with the Malay Archipelago. • Cultural Exchange: Indian traders contributed to the establishment of Islamic institutions, such as mosques, and the spread of Islamic literature. The influence of Indian culture is evident in local art, architecture, and religious practices. Key Periods and Centers • 13th Century: Islam began spreading in northern Sumatra, particularly in Aceh, largely through Arab and Indian connections. • 15th Century: The conversion of the Malacca Sultanate (modern-day Malaysia) marked a significant milestone. Malacca’s position as a trade hub allowed Islam to spread rapidly across the region. Conclusion While both Arabs and Indian traders contributed to the Islamization of Indonesia and Malaysia, the process was a collaborative and gradual effort, with both groups working alongside local rulers and traders. Arab traders laid the groundwork, but Indian merchants helped consolidate Islam through trade and cultural exchanges.

Islam not just came from Hadral Maut or Yemen but Muslim traders also came from India, China and Persian at that time. Sahabah, Saad Abi Waqas reached to China and one of the Chinese Emperor embraced Islam. He died and buried in China.

Alhamdulillah for these Yemenis...my ancestors were then Hindus but were were very receptive to Islam and become the largest ethnic Muslims. SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah.

Because we the people of south east asia(nusantara) are civilised n pf course civilised people are attracted to beautiful ahlak...Allah shone the path of righteousness for people who are good in the first place.

Alhamdulillah Im an Indonesian muslim even my father was a catholic n have Philippines ancestor in my father side, but i still respect to my father's family, some of them are mualaf/convert to be muslim

What were indonesians and malaysians before Islam?

Islam claims to be about submitting to Allah, but surah 4 :65 shows that Muslims must also fully submit to Muhammads decisions without any doubt. This means that Islam isn't just about following god but also about following a man... And now in Indonesia people are waking up and turning to Christianity in there millions

When I read Surah Al Fatiha …. I felt what I cannot explain. I reverted on the 3rd Oct 23 …. Allah SWT blessed me with that experience. I did not know when I took my Shahada prayed that 5 times a day. I just knew …. I want to be like this. Allahu Akbar.
