Question, do you know if grad students are able to march in the band? I want to come do my grad school at LSU and it’s been my lifelong dream to play on the snare or trombone line.
@@Its_Leauxsacks_Music I marched as a grad student in 2021! You just have to be enrolled in the university full-time and you have 6 years max to march

Bass Drum is the most important instrument in any marching band. Wife (now a Music prof) was bass drummer in her college band. Everyone else in the band keys off of the bass.

My first LSU band director, Dr. William F. Swor, wrote this show. I still remember my first time marching pre-game as well as marching down the hill and double timing it up the stadium ramps.

First game with dad we threw oranges on the field against Florida State (hey they were handing them out ha ha for the Orange Bowl). Our last game together was against Ohio State (RIP dad). Whether the Tigers were good or bad, the BAND was ALWAYS GREAT!!!!!! Thank you for this incredible view.

I always wondered, what’s the purpose of using pipe band bass drums for the pregame? I know it’s probably just tradition but just thought I ask!
For sure! We’ve used them since the early 2000s and this is our second generation of them, we got these in 2018. It goes back to tradition, like a lot of things with Tiger Band. According to an alumnus who was there when the original generation of pregame basses was purchased, the director at that time liked the pipe-band style drum that an Alumnus was marching with in Alumni Band, since it reminded him of the drums he used in his time in Tiger Band. From there, he sought about getting four identical ones made by Ludwig for use in the modern band. That’s what I know about it! Plus, from personal experience, it’s much easier to do a “to the rear” marching motion with a 12” wide drum than it is with a 14” wide drum.

I am 56 yrs. Old, but every time I am at the stadium and you guys come out and do the stadium salute I LOSE MY MIND! In my heart I'm thinking, "Give me a helmut coach! I'm good for 1 play and you'll have to drag my old butt off the field!" I'd do it if I could! Love you guys SO MUCH! It ain't LSU football without"The Golden Band From Tiger Land"! Even after over half a century I still get chills when TGBFTL plays those four notes to the four corners of the stadium and "Pregame". It never will grow tiresome nor has it ever failed to bring tears of pride to my eyes! It's always a great day to be a LSU TIGERS fan!
