i'm pretty sure brass saddles would'nt be period correct but i reckon anyone buying a Tele in the 60s would've changed them out too.that's a really good weight as well of sounding great btw .
I've always preferred brass saddles.
i've just bought a 2019 Vintera 60s modified in LPB and love the aesthetic of no truss rod adjustment on the head stock
I want one of these bodies real bad.
It's my favorite guitar. I used it for pretty much every gig.
This is such a great performance!
That's the same model and color that I've been dreaming of for a few years now. I'm a sucker for blue guitars in general, but that Lake Placid with the binding -- drool! Rounding out my collection with a Les Paul is my top priority right now, but I'll be coming back around for another Tele -- this Tele, most likely! Great video!
I felt the bridge was too hot compared to my strat, had to change all the gain settings when switching to Tele. Whaddya think of that hotness of the pickup?
The Telecaster bridge pickup is hotter than the Strat bridge pickup. For many player, the bridge pickup is a weakness on the Strat. Personally, if ai had my way, I'd have a Telecaster pickup in the bridge of the Strat.
I have a 76 sunburst with maple neck, di marzio pick-ups installed factory same condition as yours with a black pick guard no whammy but an excellent bridge and frets are awesome/no buzz...I need one pot done it works but crackles when adjusted...I want to change the pots and put some black fender knobs, plus a 5 position pick-up switch done...Can you tell approximate value please...Oh, I have the nice flight case in perfect shape and all original paperwork from factory and original strap...
I have no idea anymore. Prices are all over the place these days. I will say that any mods devalues the guitar. Refretting a guitar shouldn't alter the value. Changing other parts or refinishing a guitar does.
Beautiful Guitar. That binding just sets it off perfectly :)
Thanks. I've changed some stuff. Black Fender Amp knobs (Muddy Waters style) Compansated brass saddles Tortoise shell pickguard A St. John's Ambulance Sticker. 4 years later, this is still my main guitar in my band.
I returned one in 2019 a sunburst finish, which had finger handling marks on the back under the lacquer, very disappointed, but, knew it would always bug me if I kept it. I will try again next year. They should have these in black, gold would be nice too!
Gold or black would be cool.
I still play this guitar regularly. It's kind of my main guitar in my band. I've played it so much that it's due for a regret soon.
Thank you for your time and demo. Would you say the 50s pickups sound more "country" than the 60s ones?
Thanks
Concerning tonal color, how do the 50s differ from the 60s pickups?
I don't know "what more country means." I generally don't define genres by a tone or a model of guitar.
This is the guitar I really want and will buy soon, sadly not many of them are sent to Europe apparently How do you feel about the guitar after all this time btw ?
It's still my main guitar. I've added some things, tortoiseshell guard, compensated brass saddles, and St. John Ambulance sticker. Here I am using it in my band. th-cam.com/video/BWISQHZ3Vmg/w-d-xo.html
This is why I want to buy one on display in the store that I can inspect. Not one to order.
Actually, the display model was the messed up one and the one I ordered through Sweetwater is just about perfection. I should never have bought the 1st one, but I was so excited that I didn't take the time to really inspect it.
So cool Paris!!!!!!
Thanks.
Update to my Telecaster. Still using it for pretty everything. I swapped out the steel saddles for compensated brass I swapped out the chrome knobs for black amp knobs. Here's a live stream my band did a few weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/BWISQHZ3Vmg/w-d-xo.html
This video has a gotten a lot of positive responses, but I did receive a few 👎 (negative responses), but I have no idea why. Could someone who has given a negative response, please let me know what you didn't like so I can improve my videos.
Probably Gibson fanboys. Great video, your pacing was excellent. What amp are you using? The tone of the guitar is very reminiscent of classic 60’s music. Thank you.
Have you by any chance played a fender modern C neck? If so how would you compare it to the 60’s C on this model?
@@thequadraphonicgospels7829 I think I'm using a Hot Rod DeVille or a Classic 30. I can't really remember. As to playing, I played a lot of Clapton and 50s and 60s Style electric Blues.
@@thequadraphonicgospels7829 I'd say the neck is chunky compared to the modern C, which I like. I'd say I'd there was one thing I'd prefer Fender changed about the guitar, it's a slightly less chunky neck.
@@thequadraphonicgospels7829 I prefer a V shape, the Clapton.
Howdy, ordered one of these today, hope I didn’t get a Friday guitar, where they wanna get to pub.... do you find the e’ strings are quite close to the edge of fret board? Cheers from UK 🇬🇧
Hope you get a good one, too. As to the E strings, I've never noticed a problem with their position. It looks close, but it never gave any issues.
man this is a real good review! Congrats for all the description, and definitely congrats twice for the amazing instrument you have ! Direct follow on your TH-cam channel!
Looking at this guitar and like your review. Would you rather this one or the 50’s original ?
It's all a matter of personal preference, but I prefer the 60s for the following reasons: I prefer the pickups, color choices, and a rosewood neck. I just like the tone of the 64 pickups. Also, binding.
Paris Thalheimer thanks for your reply. I really want to get the 60’s one also. As you said I like the rosewood fretboard. I kinda like the new broadcaster 70th anniversary one also but I still think I should get the 60’s. Lake Placid Blue is beautiful
Great review, thanks. I’ve been weighing up whether I could justify springing for an Ultra over an American Pro but this has given me another consideration with a price point between the two... now I’m leaning towards the 60s Original thanks to this.
i played the ultra and no strat sounds pickups so artificial and neck was bad too
nice demo man. how much did you sell guitar for? im looking for a 76 myself.
Sorry, but guitar is already gone. I loved it, but really wanted a Lake Placid Blue AO 60s Tele.
I sold the guitar to pay for my 2018 60s Tele. Here's my review. th-cam.com/video/y9CkwQJN8M4/w-d-xo.html
Check out my band, Black Sevens on Sound Cloud. m.soundcloud.com/user-327176569
To get a mid 70s Strat, it'll cost you about $2300 to $2500.
@@paristhalheimer yeah im seeing that. I sold a 73 tele and 79 strat about 4 years ago for 1500 each..Now that i want them back they have doubled in price..
Jesus Culture "You Won't Relent"
What?
The Christian song you refer to. The band is Jesus Culture the song is You Won't Relent song by Kim Walker.
Got it. Thanks. I generally don't listen to Christian music, but I play it every Sunday. I learn the songs and then forget them. A few, like this one really connect with me as a player.
Hi Paris. Great guitar man and great review! I have the same guitar from Sweetwater in Fiesta red. Do you feel that the 1st (E string) is really close to the fret bottom and slips occasionally?
With the 1st Tele I got, yes. Actually, it was the final straw and reason I sent the 1st Tele back. The 2nd one I got is perfect. Try loosening up the neck a little and try readjusting it till it goes away. It also could be the nut.
When I got the 1st Tele, the nut poorly shaped and the Low E string kept coming off the neck. I tried to fix the problem myself, but the neck would not move. So it was a neck whole issue which would be expensive to fit. There were other more cosmetic issues like the clear coat chipping the week I got it and the fact that the neck was mor milky white instead of a amber liquor. I returned the Tele to GC and then ordered the one I currently own. It was like I told Sweetwater, here are my issues, please fix. The 2nd guitar is perfect. I gig with it. I record with it. It is an extension of my musical soul.
Interesting the first guitar had issues. I'm looking forward to watching this in more detail later. Cheers Jack
Thanks. They were night and day guitars. The 1st neck tint looked white and was next to unplayable. The finish was chipping within a week of getting the guitar. The one thing that both guitars had in common was the sound of the pickups.
Hi, is it two or three piece body? Tnx
For American and Mexican guitars, 2 pieces. Once in a great blue moon 1.
in spanish please
Sadly, I do not speak Spanish. Tried once for a trip to Spain. I failed honorably.
Great review. I just bought the 60s Strat and when I saw the headstock sticker I thought it was a fake. Do you know why they use a water slide logo as you call it?
This is the way Fender did it in the 50s and 60s. Fender didn't start putting a clear coat over the logo until later (the 70s, I think).
@@paristhalheimer I'll be careful! Seems odd that they change the radius but not the logo application. Cheers.
@@voltagevillain7342 you could always brush a little varnish over it that'd protect it
I had no idea Sweetwater will do all that. Thanks I also can't believe Fender insists on heal adjust necks. Pita. That concept needs to be let go
Actually, only the vintage models still use the vintage style heal end yruss rod adjustment. Most Fender guitars since the 1970s use the headstock end truss rod adjustment now. The new Elite Series uses a heal end adjustment, but it's a rotating wheel.
Has anyone had one of these have the lacquer on the corners of the binding start chipping off?
My first one, it chipped right away. This one, not yet.
The first one I owned, the lacquer began chipping within the 1st week. The second one (the Tele in the video) has fared better.
I've had mine since they were first released and the lacquer is still perfect. I play it a lot.
Found one for 1299, but I’m hesitant because it’s online and I can’t play it. Ahh! Thanks for the review. And yea the color is absolute gorgeous.
Great review, please keep them coming
looks great!
Very good review, I'm considering one of these instruments and this was very helpful, thanks.
That was like a real honest good in-depth review just what I was after, thank you.
Thanks for your comments.
Nice job Paris and good to know about the QC issues..especially cuz if people dont they will continue unfortunately..
Thanks. One of my concerns about reviews is that they become sales piches and not reviews.
Good demo thanks, might give that pedal a try.
