Shaljam Gosht Recipe Turnip Meat Stew Recipe By MeerabCookingWithLove
Shaljam (turnip) and beef is a classic Pakistani dish that's hearty, warm, and perfect for colder seasons. The tender beef and sweet, earthy flavor of the turnips pair beautifully with spices. Here’s a recipe to try:
Ingredients
Beef - 500g (cubed)
Turnips (Shaljam) - 2 medium-sized, peeled and cubed
Onion - 1 large, finely sliced
Tomatoes - 2, finely chopped
Yogurt - 1/2 cup
Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
Green chilies - 2-3, slit
Fresh coriander - for garnish
Oil or ghee - 4 tablespoons
Spices
Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - to taste
Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
Instructions
1. Heat oil in a large pot, add cumin seeds, and sauté until fragrant.
2. Add onions and cook until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
3. Add beef cubes and cook until they turn brown.
4. Add spices (coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt). Mix well.
5. Add tomatoes and cook until they soften. Add yogurt, stirring continuously until oil separates.
6. Add turnip cubes and 2 cups of water. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes to an hour, or until beef and turnips are tender.
7. Add green chilies and garam masala (if using). Let it simmer for a few more minutes.
8. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot with naan or rice.
