A busy day on Striding Edge
Back bagging Hewitts in the Lake District with the Bewdley Mountaineering Club.
Our walk started at the George Starkey Hut, where we were staying. it was a short walk up the A592 to pick up the public footpath through Home Farm and Brownend Plantation.
The weather was a dry, but windy. There was also the clag to deal with once we had gained height. The crossing of Striding Edge did not disappoint. It was however, extremely busy, with walkers in both directions. With breaks in the clag we did get to see some views of Red Tarn and Catstye Cam.
The most congested part was Bad Step.
We made our way up to Helvellyn and then to Swirral Edge, which was again very busy with walkers in both directions. Making quick work of Catstye Cam, we re traced our steps down to the main path and headed towards the hole in The wall. Our final summit was to be Birkhouse Moor. The path was a nice gentle ascent,. At the lower height we had excellent views all round.
A great day bagging four summits to tick off my Hewittts, Nuttalls and Wainwright lists.

A bleak day bagging Gragareth.

A Bewdley Mountaineering club trip to Clapham. I wanted to bag Gragareth at last year's meeting, but time did not allow. So this year, I decided what ever the weather, Gragareth, Great Coum and Green Hill were going to be bagged. Our starting point was close to Leck Hall Farm and as can be seen from the video the weather forecast was rain. We was hoping to see the rock formation of The Three Me...

28/06/2024. Travelling up a day early to Clapham for the Bewdley Mountaineering clubs 50th anniversary meet. I decided to have a stop over in Kirkby Lonsdale to bag the new Hewitt of Calf Top. The walk starts in the small hamlet of Barbon. Passing the 17th century coaching inn, The Barbon inn and the Anglican Church dedicated to St Bartholomlew. I followed the path into Barbon park, the home of...

30th May 2024. These two munro's should have been bagged in 2022, while bagging Beinn a' Chlachair. However, due to bad weather we cut the trip short. The route starts from the layby on the A86, where a track crosses the bridge and you head for Luiblea. The walk in is around 4 miles. You eventually come to southern end of Lochan na h- Earba. A great spot to enjoy the view. Following the main pa...

29/05/2024 Cairn Gorm. Bewdley Mountaineering club annual trip to Scotland. This year we went to Newtonmore. The weather forecast predicted thunderstorms at lunch time, so we made an early start for our trip to Aviemore. On arrival we could see the cloud on the hills. The route up from the visitor centre is a well marked path, taking you past the highest phone box in the UK. As you can see from...

27/04/2024. Bewdley Mountaineering Club top to Croesor. My third time bagging Cnicht 2260ft (689m). Leaving the car park at Croesor, the path to Cnicht is well marked. The weather was bright and breezy, with the height giving us good views of the surrounding hills. The ascent took us approximately 1 1/2 hours. We then headed towards Cnicht North Top 2251ft (686m), before heading south towards R...

Bewdley Mountaineering club trip to Killin. Our first proper days walking, bagging two Munros of Ben More and Stob Binnein. Parking in the Lay by next to the A85. Just short of Crianlarich. It was a short walk to the main path close to the farm house. After a short windy up hill section of path, we soon reached the stone steps that helped us gain the height - straight up. This section was hard ...

Day two of the Christmas met with Bewdley Mountaineering club. Todays objective was to bag my 176th Hewitt - Whernside. The journey starts at the Station pub. Walking with Roland and Jan, we made our way down the road to the viaduct. The path was well marked and we followed it to Blea Moor Station, seeing the lovely stonework viaduct that guided the river over the railway track. We also had a g...

Very useful. Thank you.
Really enjoyed watching this and made me want to plan my next trip accordingly and spend a few days knocking out all the summits in that range. Seeing Drum and Foel-Fras (in the distance) really whetted my appetite. Thanks.
Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. I need to get back out there myself.
Wicked scenery and views. Very enjoyable vid 🙂👍
Thanks 👍
Bit different conditions at the moment. Best wishes on the next.
Thank you, pleased you enjoyed the video.
I can't pronounce Welsh names to save me life. Lovely country and nice video 🙂
I did have to do a couple of retakes. Pleased you liked the video
Stunning scenery and great views 🙂 Brilliant !
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice one 🙂
So amazing 💪💪
Glad you enjoyed the video. It was an amazing trip.
so empty of people, wonderful
Considering the weather and it being the Lake District it was very quiet. A great days walking.
Best walk in ages mate, as memorable as the Pennines with Lord Wollaston, hiding from the MOD in a white out and many others.
It was superb, really enjoyed the two days especially the star gazing. We will have to revisit the Pennines.
Hey, good walk there brother. I love Pumlumon primarily because of the Wye and the good memories I've got up there. It was a fine day. The source of the Wye is deceiving. It looks like a ha ha - but in fact when you get into the gully it's deep and impressive as you walk down. Try it one day. Decent tour about that. Thanks. Subbed on account of the good vibes. Mark
I will have to revisit Pumlumon and get down in the gully to check it out properly. Thank you for your kind words and subscribing.
Would be good to see some overlay graphics showing distance travelled, elevation gains and loses and time taken. Perhaps also at the beginning to show location in the UK of where you are, zooming into the start of the parking and the beginning of the walk
Thank you for your comments. I will look at Google maps for the zooming in to the start of the walk and try to add relevant information with graphics.
Well done on half way mate
Cheers Mate.
Great video! The Wye’s such a lovely river, it’s so nice to see the source!
Thank you. It was a pity that we could not get any closer due to the route we was walking.
If interested my friend there are a few videos on my channel with the source of the Wye featured. All the best. Mark
nice video. Well done..
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great circuit there mate, lovely part of the Highlands. A boon to see RC in action.
It was a great days walking, I would definitely go back to that part of the Highlands to bag a few more Munro's.
