@@Stealther You’re not off by much as far as the differences, for sure. I think it’s more for weapon and accessories folks who want substantial protection, but prefer the high end interior and exterior options available with a BFX. I get your thought process though, it’s pretty close in price.

To me, the most important thing is that I still have my belongings after a burglary attempt but I get the desire for a more aesthetic appearance. Are these BMF safes still considered a RSC? I’m wondering how far off it is from a TL-30 rated safes for tool attacks.

@@Stealther We appreciate you watching and saying so! Yeah, unless the manufacturer spends the money to have U.L. test their product it remains a RSC. Which is crazy because tell me this safe wouldn’t make it 30 minutes with 2 people attacking it haha. Rules is rules though. It’s extremely on par with a TL-30 rated however, it hasn’t been test or labeled such, so we call it a RSC.

@@smartass6071 S&G, the keypad manufacturer, has a mil-standard EMP rating and they Say it can handle 50,000 volts. However, I get not wanting to take a chance and the lock can be quickly/easily swapped to a mechanical.

@@wolvarine35 I’m guessing you mean a key that overrides the keypad or mechanical dial because a day lock feature isn’t able to lock or unlock a safe. It’s more like a place holder. I agree with you completely, we do not offer a safe that has a key override because that completely defeats the purpose of the engineers design or the safe or the mechanical or digital keypad.

There’s usually no reason for panic, so I respond calmly as to set the tone, besides if the instructions were followed then the very first step is to leave the door open and bolts out as to not get locked out. However, are you actually locked out of your safe? How many different times did you try the procedure?

@@A1LocksmithofTexas I had the door open, bolts out. I left it alone for a few minutes and all was ok. But still did not get combo changed.

@@BMcGizzle I’m glad you’re still good to go. Did you hear all the very specific beeps we talk about in the video? Not hearing the coinciding beeps after the specific entries is where we can determine the issue. There are newer and older versions of S&G keypads, so if you try the procedure in the video to the letter, but don’t hear a beep when i mention it then we may need a different procedure.

@@BMcGizzleYou could have the older style S&G 6120 in which that sequence actually starts with 7 4 * Existing Code # // should hear 5 beeps // 1 * // new 6 digit code # // should hear 3 beeps // new 6 digit code # // should hear 3 beeps . Then test the new 6 digit code. Advance with caution - I clearly have no idea what safe/lock you have. Make sure the door is open and bolts are extended out before beginning. Again, listening for “chirps” or “beeps” where we point them out is crucial in helping understand where the issues are. Good luck 🤠

@@LGB-FJB You mean you have too many for a gun safe? Again, as a locksmith company we see criminals fail far more than succeed when customers have even a descent safe. Rarely is someone running around breaking into homes/businesses with sufficient to breaking into safes. Check with police departments/insurance companies in our your area, but in DFW the average break in is 8 minutes or less, 98% of them are front/back door kick-ins and well over 90% of the time they go straight for the primary bed/closet/bathroom. Point is that most residential break ins are “smash & grab” and they’re not breaking into safes, so a descent safe can defend against the small percentage of break in attempts.

@@prisonerr24601 Excellent point! This is absolutely challenging. I think we all understand we can’t bolt down, but we can take steps. Deepening on the size of the safe obviously, nestled in a closet will slow someone down from just going at it. Next I would recommend a SafElert. It’s basically an alarm system for the safe itself and a really affordable one. It senses motion if someone were violently shaking/moving the safe or trying to beat it with a hammer. It also senses when the door is opened, it sends notifications to your phone about these things. Other great features include it monitors interior temp and humidity levels. @@LGB-FJB Lock picking lawyer?! What am I chopped liver? I’m literally a locksmith hahaha. It’s your standard 7 pin tubular lock, highly rated over a 5 wafer camlock typically found on small metal boxes. And there’s nobody running around with tubular locks taking the time to pick one open versus snatch and grab burglaries. Definitely some misconception about the donating to parties. Liberty doesn’t donate to any political party, as a company. The parent company, Monomoy Capitol Partners LP, that owns Liberty does not donate to any political parties, as a company. Like most companies, employees are free to donate and choose whatever political beliefs they choose. At Monomoy Partners there was a partner in the firm, not on the board for Liberty, who had made large contributions on his own free will. I should mention he hasn’t been there in years and again, he never served on the board of executives for Liberty. It’s all public information search political contributions online, that’s where I learned a lot more about it myself doing my own research when headlines from TH-cam reporters broke.

I must have misremembered that it was Liberty or their parent company who donated to leftists, and not the individuals. Thank you for the correction! Besides LPL (I know Bosnian Bill is retired), do you have any additional recommendations on who to watch for lock picking? I'm mostly a novice at it, but I do enjoy watching locks getting picked.

I’m about 21 years into to what I do and I love it. I love serving my community and making it a safer place for homes and businesses. They said we choose not to show/demonstrate how to effectively bypass locks. We help folks in many other ways on this platform and teaching folks about gun safes is our number one way. I can appreciate you and others wanting to learn locking picking for the curiosity piece of it. It’s a fascinating thing for sure, that’s why it’s one of the many things I learned in becoming a locksmith. LSL definitely has a knack for dissecting locks and how that work in order to defeat them. I’ve seen maybe 2 videos, he genuinely has a passion for what he does, so I take nothing away from him.

@@suedr7894 Hello, thanks for reaching out. Sometimes it’s possible that folks have the older S&G keypad that looks similar, but uses a different process to change the combination. Make sure your old combination still works before trying again. Then simply read the following procedure aloud a few times and then begin. Same rules apply : door open, bolts out, 7 4 * , Existing Combination #, you should hear 5 beeps, 1 * , should hear 3 beeps, new six digit combo # , should hear 3 beeps, new six digit combo # , should hear 3 beeps. Now test your new six digit combo and turn the handle.

I followed the instructions I entered 74* then the current code .. I hear the 5 beeps .. I enter the new code and that’s when I hear long beep instead of 3 beeps .. everything stops there

@@suedr7894 And the same thing happened using the procedure in the video? Does your existing combo still work? Maybe try a fresh 9V Duracell battery from Home Depot (Duracell copper top works better than any other battery and Home Depot always has fresh batteries)

@@andys5562 Hola! The slide version doesn’t actually latch or connect on the inside. It’s held in place once you shut and lock the door. It’s essentially filling the inside cavity, so it doesn’t move much at all while driving.

@@A1LocksmithofTexas So if someone breaks into the car they cannot just open the door and slide it out?

@@andys5562 That’s the idea, correct. You have the outer steel that the headrest is constructed of, the door has a locking latch on it and you need a code/finger print or key to open. The removable slide is inside the steel headrest and locked by the door. And you can use toggles when installing the headrest to make extremely difficult to try and remove.

Thats interesting you say that because as a locksmith company we have drilled opened several gun safes after a fire and found great results. Like anything, not every safe makes it. However, we’ve seen many safes with a 60 min @ 1200 rating do well and absolutely have seen some safes with even more fire rating fail. As I’m sure you can attest to, there are so many variables in a fire - where it started, what fuels/gases are ignited, how long the fire department took to get on site, where was the safe, how old was the house. Have you seen any safes be successful and what contributing factors would you say could help a safe make it in your opinion? Man, great question! Over the years there absolutely have been keypads that have allowed for anywhere from 4-10 digit codes. Why only 6 as the most common used combos? It always comes back to UL ratings (Underwriter Laboratories Inc). Before keypads were invented we had mechanical locks that used 6 numbers (10-20-30) right? The 6 numbers were broken up into 3 sets of numbers with 100 possibilities (100x100x100). UL wanted the same 1 million possibilities (6 digit combo between 10 numbers) on keypads. Which works for up to 10 users, but when you have 11 users you need a digit 7 combo, 12 users needs up to a 8 digit code and so on. Anything over that is fine, dealers choice, as long as you make a lock that is UL Listed. I hope this makes sense, brother.

@@A1LocksmithofTexas Man you are quick to reply, something you hardly see on youtube anymore, speaking for not just myself really appreciate it. so in a nut shell if I understand the above correctly, the more amount of users a digital keypad allows for effectively the number of digits a code can be is reduced to keep the overall number of total possibilities available based off the UL standard?

@@JMSynthetics Well, we appreciate people watching. Yes, it can be reduced from say the 8-10 digits on yours, but only down to 6 digits so long as the keypad has 0-9 (10 numbers) to meet UL’s guidelines. And you have 10 or less users.
