Good Job
I like this a lot! Tried it this afternoon and it’s really simple but I have a quick question. I’m using a black diamond pear biner and just in a few short rappels it seems like it wants to rub up the figure 8 when I have to work it from the locked position to rappelling. It’s pretty rough on it and it’s already taking the paint off the 8. Have you experienced this? Curious what type of carabiner you’re using or if you’ve found someway to make that transition “smoother” on the carabiner and 8. Great video and I appreciate you sharing this!
Bro get a rope wrench with a jet step foot ascender it is less effort i climb trees for a living
@@Psy6o I have an rrp and the jet step and knee ascender… this is hunting not tree climbing 😂 no need for the extra weight and gear part of being a saddle hunter is to not have that weight putting all that in a hunt pack would be defeating the purpose
@@trailingwhitetails3667 a climbing stand is much better and a saddle isn't comfortable at all
I ha have rrp and zigzag also but they don't recommend for new climbers

How much would this complete system cost and can u give me a list
@@Crayz919 absolutely! I’m currently at work I’ll hop on here this evening!
@@trailingwhitetails3667 good stuff
Good stuff, new subscriber from central north Carolina and I have a bunch of huge oaks I want hunt in but can't climb with sticks only screw in steps or ladder maybe and the tree trunks are bigger around than most dinner tables and I need a way to get up into the tree and theres usually huge limbs around 12 - 15 ft up trunk of tree off ground and the trees are perfect to get up in and hunt they're just hard to get In ....
It would probably be more efficient & quiet to go in to hunt in dark and hunt after dark if I just use screw in steps since it's private land not to mention its cheaper I'm sure... your thoughts ?
@@Crayz919 well I’m glad to have you here! As another comment asked why I don’t have other gear is because this is saddle hunting not tree climbing but there is several other devices you can run that’ll make life easier but then you go from having a $20 piece to a $700 set to get up
I'm totally new at rec tree climbing...a question and a statement......did you anchor the climbing rope to the limb? If so, how do you get it down after you repel down? I'm thinking I'd be anchoring to the trunk at the bottom and use a friction saver on the branch or joint. Thanks internet and Trailing.....the observation.....all I could think about was that giant poison Oak vine running up there with you. I'd be broken out by the time my feet were back on the ground!!! LOL Thanks brother! Happy hunting and be safe!
There’s several retrieval options! I’m also a tree climber and yeah I don’t worry about any oak or ivy I’ve been around it so much! This specific method I kept my throwball rope tied off with the rope to retrieve but you could do a trunk wrap or even an Alpine butterfly method for retrieval! And I used a healthy branch! Typically crotches are a lot better for safety but a healthy branch the size of a forearm is way sturdier then people think!
Watch (ONE STICKING) for the newest way to one stick. It's safer, easier, and quieter.
"Promo SM" 🤦
"Promo sm"
If this system works for you, cool. However, this is a really dumb thing to be promoting on here. If the climber allows enough slack on the rope for that loop to come off the smaller lobe of the figure eight they will become completely detached from the rope. There’s a reason this is not a generally accepted use of a figure eight. At least you got a handful of views out of it though.
This is the most original system in the books other then a Blake’s hitch with a bowline knot , but I will say I have never ever been in the situation for it to come out and if tried several ways and ran this system for years… you literally have to abuse this to have failure and at that point you shouldn’t be climbing in the first place
Agree. Not for me.

Darton?

Mathews phase4
Nice bow, I enjoyed shooting it I almost switched over to Matthews and the lift but I had to get a new bear bow so I’ll continue rocking prime and bear!
Great video. Much appreciated. This looks like a great alternative to a mechanical descender and exactly what I've been looking for. I was wondering, though, if there is any chance of this being considered side loading like with carabines.
I appreciate you! And are we talking side loading as in potential hazard for it to flip out? If so you can put a prusik knot above it with a small cord attach it to the carabiner and it’ll provide an auto lock for failure! But I don’t do it (I should) but I’ve been using this method for a long time now and don’t see the fault unless your just absolutely careless
@@trailingwhitetails3667 Thanks for responding so quickly. I'll give it a try.
@@rokdogg576 absolutely! But if you keep the tag end of your repel rope to that right side as I have then it won’t flip out but if you step over or forget and it crosses the body there is a higher chance of it pulling out! Just be safe out there! I always recommend a backup although it’s hypocritical of me because I don’t use one! But your safety is the priority in the scenario!
You got that right.. there’s nothing else like it
Pass but he’s got some powerball in him dude gonna be a trophy when matured
lol
This saddle process is about the cool thing I’ve ever seen
Nice
This is a cool trick and will try. I’ve just been repealing old school way
I’ve been using my figure 8 this way since I came into the saddle world! People put stoppers and blockers and etc attached to it which I understand the extra safety but I’ve never not once seen any reason a blocker is needed when a rope is put into that type of pinch point or any item it’s garunteed to lock in! But if your concerned and want an extra safety on it you can add that little stopper rope to it
@@trailingwhitetails3667 yeah I’ll probably use a prusik on the breaking side just as a backup first few times.
@@Dmoore37 yessir majority of people do it! I never have I tested the method a lot under pressure before ever going into the woods and just couldn’t see it and it’s probably dumb of me because accidents to happen and it doesn’t take no extra effort I just never went around to the store to buy the extra piece of rope for it! Best of luck to you and be safe out there!
@@trailingwhitetails3667 tried it today and worked like a charm!
Take some long 1/2 strips of Duct Tape and wrap up your carabiners and Figure 8. Take that rattle right out.
It’s funny you say that! I just wrapped them in a camo cloth type material wrap🤣
What your saying is you missed the shot.
Never took a shot to miss it! I was under to much pressure, to small of gaps to shoot threw I did what I thought was ethical and pass
😂🤣 elegantly put Sir
@@bambam52251 it was tough on me there’s no doubt but I was shaking up where he was coming from I couldn’t range him kept getting false readings hitting twigs
There is usually a knot in the end of the tether, that "stopper knot" is designed to stop the prusik from pulling off the end of the rope. Remember to screw the gate closed down, so you don't "screw-up". I like the concept, I will have to try it, I am including a pulley on my ascender, and using it to assist instead of a foot loop, as a piece to try. I would encourage others that are interested to get out and try it where they can before season, so they are familiar and comfortable with their setup.
I just saw a video ref using a re-direct (pulley) to help ascending. NOT recommended as it may reorientate your figure 8. When it does it will take the twist out and give you a very speedy descent .

Best video on this I have seen! What rope is that?
good job
Is that considered a closed bridge on that saddle or opened? I am a newbie. But I am very interested in this style of hunting from a tree. I am looking into purchasing a saddle setup.
I believe mine would be considered a closed adjustable bridge since it’s factory set and the extra knot you see is my way of keeping the slack out. If it was to be an “open” bridge it would need a disconnect from my bridge loops (carabiner) or some form of easy disconnect. I could be wrong on this but from my understanding it’s closed
@@trailingwhitetails3667 Thanks for the clarification on that.
@@landhunters1423 absolutely I could be wrong though so don’t take my word fully that’s just what I think on that!
Have you thought about repelling down instead on one sticking down?
