Terrible conductor playing fast-slow-terribly fast with the tempo, and terribly out-of-tune orchestra! The performance of the piece on the merits of the soprano herself is excellent! Congratulations to her.

Her Gs are soaring and her expressiveness is like I have seen. Nicely done!! Not an easy piece for grown women let a young woman for whom this was written!

Haven't any of the commenters ever heard of anyone besides Dessay? Good Lord, people! Educate yourselves! TH-cam isn't the universe, you know. There are recordings out there by Gruberova (already mentioned by one commenter), Rita Streich (who omits the top Gs), Cyndia Sieden, Roberta Peters, Erika Köth, Mady Mesplé, Ingeborg Hallstein, Beverly Hoch, Jana Jonášová, Edda Moser (twice, five years apart) and many others whose names currently escape me. Mlle Vidal's rendition is not of the highest rank, but to be fair, several factors mitigate against its excellence, none of which are her fault: 1) An incompetent conductor; 2) Clumsy, insensitive and out-of-tune orchestral playing, and 3) A tempo in the cantabile section that is at least half again too fast, forcing the singer to rush through the fioritura, thus giving the impression that she could not handle it properly. A singer must have absolute confidence in the support of the conductor and the orchestra in order to be at her best. If she cannot have this confidence, the resulting insecurity will undermine her efforts, sabotaging her ability to render a superlative performance. There is also the fact that this is a live performance, which puts great strain on the soloist. The excellent dramatic coloratura Edda Moser was of the opinion that this number could not be successfully performed in public, due to its extreme difficulty. I think Mlle Vidal is to be congratulated for having attempted it in a live setting at all, under what must have been trying circumstances. Before everyone rushes to judgment, declaring Dessay's rendition 'the best' (odious concept!), why don't you all acquaint yourselves with a dozen or so of the other versions out there? That way, you will be speaking from a position of knowledge and experience, rather than just nominating the only other rendition you've heard.

Não gostei! Foi a pior soprano que executou essa ária! A coloratura dela é péssima, soprano desconcentrada, engole demais a saliva, por diversas vezes lambeu os lábios, tem pouco fôlego nas notas altas e atuação tola sem emoção, apenas uma encenação da encenação.

O_o this is... Well for first some notes quite wrong, second at the start when she went low she sounded cery forced. Also the mimichs, face expretions and waving her arms are a bit strange...

It would be unfair since Dessay had to pass through 2 nodule surgeries! I wish Vidal would've singed this 10 years ago, even in a studio it wouldn't have been better than Dessay's... Vidal always had to make much effort to reach the highest notes, and it never felt natural... not like Natalie. I really like this version of Vidal, but Dessay is just superb on this aria, totally unbeatable.

Elizabeth Vidal sings here this aria IN LIVE With an incredible quality! This can't be compared to a recording made 10 years ago IN STUDIO by Dessay ! It would be interesting to hear a life of Dessay today in this aria!!!!... This would be a real way to compare!

Le suis tombé par hasard sur cette video et à part quelques minuscules défauts de prononciations (allemand) je trouve cette interprétation excellente. En plus Elizabeth Vidal est très belle et sexy.
