Thank you for a beautifully expressed and informative video tour of Winchester College library, which I have had the privilege to visit on a few occasions in the past. I am an old paleographer - that is, I am now very old !!!!! Although I was then based in Oxford, the journey to Winchester always proved to be more than worthwhile, and this video has reminded me why - so many thanks indeed :)

They are all excellent musicians and at a professionaly standard. But the top alto has a timbre to his voice which is truly remarkable - and that is in a good way. Wonderful.

Some old favourites there which I've sung in my mis-spent youth!

Las Cases is not the hero one imagines. Sepulveda, his opponent in the Valladolid Debate, was as much concerned by the wellbeing of the Indians as Las Cases. Sepulveda thought that putting an end to human sacrifices, cannibalism and (royal) incest justified the invasion of the Americas. I don't know many contemporary Westerners who wouldn't support military intervention against a regime that would do these abominations. We are all Sepulvedians !

This type of history is breathtaking. I have to know more about the book pillows. Are those common in the rare book library world. They make perfect sense for these large delicate books. Are they also used on smaller books? Would they have been common centuries ago as well when the books were being read?

This is a wonderful story--unusual, but certainly not as rare as many might think here in America. And it shows how extremely valuable a good education is for ALL; something that, as an African American especially, I wish our government would work rigorously to ensure!
