Top 10 Issues of Nayawin Rar Lodge 296
Weekly Zoom Conference - Larry Lane Presentation

In this presentation Larry Lane goes over his ranking of the top 10 lodge issues from Nayawin Rar Lodge 296. Some of these rankings are sure to raise some eyebrows among advanced collectors. I also discuss some of the issues that go into deciding where to place the items on this list. What do you believe is more important? Should the scarcity of the item be weighed more, or the price the issue sells for? Often times scarcity and value do not go hand in hand. This presentation is meant to act as a template for anyone who would like an example of how to do a Top 10 presentation on their own lodge. We are always looking for presenters and would welcome you to give a presentation covering a lodge you are knowledgeable on.

    The camp was closed prior to 1980. Eagle Island was open from 79 back. I was there on 80 putting new roofs on the quads and putting in new septic tanks and everything else prior to the 80 opening. Explain that to me please.

    I just came across your videos and it really brought back the memories for me from several of the camps highlighted in your series. The troop I was with always went to Camp Semiconon and we were there for the last season of that camp. People were literally tearing up on the last day knowing "our" camp was closing for good. After that we had to go to Camp Anawanna and all the troops that got relocated to Anawanna that first year would sing the Semiconion camp song whenever the staff tried to get us to do the Anawanna camp song (driving the Anawanna camp staff crazy). 😂

    It stated that the 1922 OSC at the state fair also was a "service camp". Maybe in 1923 they split them up - had the service camp in Sacramento and the OSC in Santa Barbara

    • @jeffmorley2088
      @jeffmorley2088 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's always a possibility. Unfortunately there is no co-oberating evidence of that reported in any of the newspapers of the time, including the Sacramento Bee which covered the State Fair daily and extensively.

    4th annual OSC in 1924? means the first was in 1921, not 1922

    • @jeffmorley2088
      @jeffmorley2088 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct, the first OSC was in 1921. There was no patch issued for that one. The first patch was issued for the 1922 OSC! Thanks for the comment.

    Dr. Flatt, I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane with your presentation. Well done. I met Bill a few times at different functions and he always had time to visit with you and do a little trading. It was incredible how his little book changed and grew the hobby compared to the dark ages in the 60's. As most of us move into our 70's (mature years) the hobby has slowed down a bit and the missing numbers and names have become even more scarce. I'm an ASM for a 2 year old girls troop and the Scouts from our troop who went to the Jamboree this past summer were thrilled to get to trade the bag of flaps & patches I provided for them to learn the hobby. Montana Council has only one set of camp council patches that I know of. It is for the 50th Anniversary of K-M Scout Ranch (read as K Bar M). There are six council patches and one jacket patch in the set. The council patches show the three historical camp buildings, one in full color and one in all gold mylar. The jacket patch shows the fancy, new lodge building opened in 2019. May 18, 1980 is the day Mount St Helens erupted.

    a knot for earning every merit badge? hopefully, that's never approved. AFAIK, nobody was ever intended to chase every merit badge in some sort of completionist frenzy. if you've Eagled early, your time would be better spent pursuing Summit or Quartermaster. Given that many merit badges provide only an initial exposure to a life skill, career field, or hobby, it would be better to focus one's energy towards mastering something(s) specific: a varsity sport, a musical instrument, etc.
