A friend & I visited Arches NP on Oct 5, 2024. This park is wonderful with many trails to hike and beautiful scenes to view and take picture. We began to hike to Delicate Arch at 5 pm. The hike up was strenuous, but doable. However, we made a mistake of not bringing strong flash lights. We thought that our phone flash light would be enough. We stayed and enjoyed the sunset at Delicate Arch until 9 pm then hiked back. It was totally dark by then, and the trail became invisible and much more dangerous. Our phone light was weak, giving no light further than 3 ft. We were lost and fumbled in the dark. Fortunately, two wonderful hikers, Lexi and Nate from Salt Lake City, came to our rescue. They lent us a flash light and led us down to the parking lot. They even gave us the flash light so that we could walk to our car. Thank you Lexi and Nate! The view of Delicate Arch at sunset was priceless!

Looking at the Bailey homestead, which is under restoration, I have to ask, why does it seem like the NPS always allows these historic properties to fall into such disrepair that they have to do major restoration efforts, rather than adequately maintaining them on a regular basis? Would be less inconvenience to the public and a lot less tax dollars spent in the long run.
