Arcane Season 2 Is A Letdown || Part 3
In this video I am covering the character of Jinx in Arcane Season 2. I lay out the reasons why Jinx is poorly written and lacks the same level of depth and complexity that she did in Season 1.
Overall this is probably one of the worst character assassinations in Arcane. So if you were disappointed by Jinx's arc, then this is the video for you.

มุมมอง 11Kวันที่ผ่านมา
In this video I am diving deeper into how bad Arcane Season 2 is. Its definitely worse than season 1. Overall Arcane fails to tell a coherent story while at the same time ruining its once great characters. Caitlyn Kiermman is a great example of this which is something I analyze. Here we'll also be going over the fight between Jinx and Vi. This season has the feeling of being rushed along. If yo...

While im not defending the terribly underserved rushjob they did this season i believe initially jinx in some twisted way decides that She should die by Violets hand because that's who jinx would prefer to see the last time before she dies. While its rather minimally touched on in general conversations jinx is basically a psychopath insofar as children are lacking in moral maturity until the grow up, but jinx is a broken person still in arrested moral development. I figure like a child wanting their parent, jinx wants to be put to sleep by the only person she has left who loves her. I guess we're not going to think about how the act of having to kill her own sister is likely to be the one thing that will absolutely shatter Violet to her deepest foundations because fuck that noise of a lesbian kiss & and instant break up bullshit that wouldn't have thrown Vi into depression but ohwell jinx isnt thinking about that either. jinx became suicidal quite early on in this season with her "im glad its you, had to be you line" now while i can understand her getting there she arives there way too fucking fast. And grogoo serves as her little sister role for a while so jinx can be place in the same position as Violet was in the first season having lost her own sister. Now while i understand that too i am far away from willing to entertain the sheer amount of danger that little girl is placed in by both sisters numerous times until later on she too kills herself. I know her names isha but she's just a plot device so thats her name now. Besides if grogoo doesn't blow herself up then war then warwick will simply wipe out all the noxian forces, for a few bathtubs worth of collateral damage, and NOT turn into arcanwick and provide victor the supplies he needs to mount the final battle, so ultimately if she lives the endgame doesn't need to nearly result in the world ending
This sesson left alot of questions but so did season 1. I hope they make more reslly liked this season good music like always and jinx lives unfortunate for my boi ekko he thinks she is dead.
The writing went down hill, the forced rainbows crammed into it is gross, and even the art went down a bit......
The writing went down hill, the forced rainbows crammed into it is gross, and even the art went down a bit......
The only good thing about S2 is the cgi. Everything else is a joke. They took well espablished characters and turned them into parodies of them. How the fuck are they going to have Noxians without the FREAKING Hand of Noxus Darous! On top of all that is wronmg with S2 is that they protray all the gay relationships (of which almost all are in the show) are healthy and wholesome and all the straight relationships are portrayed as toxic and broken. One of the reason S2 also sucked is they they lost 4 of their best writers and Riot Games did not pay cloase personal attention to this season. Riot Games was so happy with the outcome of season 1 and how their characters where protrayed that they trusted netfux to do S2 right. Yes... Netflix should hence forth be known as NetFux because they seem to fuck up everyhting they get their hands on.
I think Riot got their dirty grubby hands on S2. Ambessa, Mel, and Black rose are only there because theyre releasing them as a playable character, so theyre mandated to somehow insert them to the story. They shouldve focused more on the war and conflict between Piltover and Zaun. Then Viktor, and Warwick as sub-plots, like what S1 sets it up. Then slowly set up S2 for Noxus for the planned upcoming spin-offs.
arcane season 1 featured what felt like real people in a fantastical setting. season 2 feels like such an obvious attempt to market new skins and champs, and I can almost smell the product development. who is this character? well I'm glad you asked - s/he's a future champ and here are their cool movesets. why was this scene there? great question, that's showcasing a new exalted / legendary / epic / gacha skin, coming soon to a riot store near you.
Thank you for saying this because this was one of my biggest frustrations with season 2 that nobody, not even the more critical videos, would bring up. It’s like the writers planned to make her a villain until they saw how loved she was by the cast and fandom and tried to turn her into some kind of “So Mentally Ill and Relatable” anti-hero. She doesn’t even feel like the same person anymore.
The new season is critically acclaimed lol, it’s shocking how it’s getting all of this positive attention. I think you’re right, they didn’t want to ruin their mascot, they got afraid of making her the bad guy. “Jinx is dead” and yeah she is dead, shes a totally different character. Glad you liked the video, its become a real passion for me to discuss this show
Warwick’s inclusion is so bizarre upon rewatch because it’s so glaringly obvious he only exists as a plot device. He’s a contrived excuse to reunite Vi and Jinx for a few episodes and then his “personality” is wiped only 3-4 episodes later. They should have kept him consciously Vander for a bit to make him losing his memories actually impactful because he doesn’t feel like a character at all, more the premise of one. All in all it feels like he was only around for a blip, it makes you question what was even the point of having him? As it stands the most impactful thing he does is make Vi hesitate on the ledge so Jinx can sacrifice herself
If you continue this series, I'd love to see it mentioned that one of the biggest plot holes is that Jayce's crusade against Hextech led to nothing. The crystals that power the weapons still exist in the world, and Linke more or less said it will be weaponized by another family (presumably Camille's family). So he died for nothing at all. Second, despite him saying it cannot be given to the people, he uses an Arcane corrupted Mercury Hammer and that is never addressed. As for the multiverse/AU plot, Mage Viktor says 'only YOU can show me this', even though he could have shown his past selves a vision of what would happen with the Hexcore. Another issue is that Mage Viktor keeps perpetuating doomed timelines because he could not tell Jayce to be careful with the runes and as a means to keep a version of himself alive with Jayce. It sounds less and less romantic and a star-crossed lovers plot when you think about it, because in every timeline he takes away Viktor's agency and leaves him a pawn of the Arcane. It would have been so much cooler to see him bend the Hexcore to his will and make it a transformation rune of his own making. Jayce and Viktor had to end themselves to end a doomed timeline...to stop Hextech that will still be used...for a plot that could have been avoided if 1. Jayce had died or 2. Jayce had been warned about it beforehand; or 3. Jayce told Viktor at the commune what he saw. They literally ended themselves for nothing. "Oh but they had to do it to end the Anomaly" yeah and apparently Mage Viktor couldn't use that to talk to his younger selves? OK bud.
For the next video i’m going to be covering a lot of what you brought up here. I’m covering episode 7 specifically and how in hindsight none of it makes any sense as you’ve pointed out. The multiverse time travel crap breaks the story in so many ways its hard to describe. You make very similar points to what ill be talking about, the Future Viktor is going to be covered extensively. My thoughts exactly, why didn’t Viktor just talk himself out of destroying the world. Nothing would be more convincing than a future version of yourself telling you not to do something lol. Glad you’re enjoying the series, its been really fun analyzing this new season
Yeah I forgot did Sevika even KNOW that Jinx killed Silco?
No lol, they just left it unresolved
I really wish people would stop making the Harley/Jinx comparison. I get the urge but they really only have one thing in common, "insanity". That's it. They are nothing alike. Complete surface level similarity. Well, one other thing I guess. Their characters were both destroyed for no good reason. So 2 things in common then. Edit: Great vid btw. Looking forward to more!
Also can we talk more how they made both Vander and Silco knowing their parents since before they were born. Also the reason they were fighting and Vender trying to kill Silco was because their mother.. and he goes for revenge because Vender wrote later to Silco after that and if he could read it. ,,Ohh you drown me, but I some how escaped and managed to read the later and now I forgive you"💀
This season went really hard with the Friendship is Magic theme, even when a letter would NOT have convinced Silco Vander meant well especially after the latter tried to kill him. If anything, it'd make him angrier.
I'm so glad to see that video. Like I expected her madness to be even bigger since she wasn't very stable at the beginning what about after she k!!!€d Silco. I expected madness, but she was way to calm, I tried to ignore it because maybe it effected her in that way, but your video proofs my point
Glad you liked my video, it was something I really wanted to talk about because like you said her madness should have been even greater but instead she just gets her sanity back.
9:19 Stuff like this has actually happened in real life! During the Norman Conquest, some of the Celtic tribes raided Anglo-Saxon settlements while they were too busy fending off the Normans!
the amount of cope that some arcane fans have is insane, ive seen people say that s1 is a 10/10 but s2 "is only an 8/10" because of it was a "bit" rushed. NO, ts was buns 2/10 stop coping arcane s2 sucks
Yeah I regret not naming the series "Why Arcane Sucks Now" as I have done in the past. Calling it a letdown at this point is an understatement.
I hope you cover the whole show. That ending was pure Avengers with Steven Universe dialogue. I hate the time travel/multiverse AU plot because it begs more questions than answers.
I am going to try. Working on Part 4 rn. There is a lot to go over. I am dreading the time travel multiverse stuff. Trying to explain how stupid and nonsensical it is will be difficult lol. You're right they hardly try to explain any of it themselves.
Surprised nobody has talked about how cheap and badly written her"death" scene was. They made a point in showing how Warwick's consciousness got deleted by Singed and Viktor, so there is ZERO reason for the creature to wake up after dying when Viktor's army got Phantom Menaced. Both sisters deserved a goodbye scene, not an MCU ish final fight, specially when it's a fakeout
I also found it so bizarre that they used Wasteland again for that scene, when last time we heard it Jinx was at her lowest point about to off herself, presented in a way obvious to the viewer that what she was doing wasn’t the answer. Now they play it again when she’s supposed to be sacrificing herself heroically? Like what is the take away supposed to be? That she shouldn’t be doing this either? Or she gets her wish to die after all good for her?
Also...can we talk about the fact that Viktor joined forces with the warmongerer whose ONLY motive is weaponizing Hextech and hates mages?! Like Ambessa should be her sworn enemy, the Satan to his Godly characterization
Good point. You'd think Viktor would attack her first but no.
I loved this show to death - but I know that it's fandom bait. I dont care if it's trash; it's good trash. But you're right.
Thank god someone is talking about this. They turned an interesting and unique character into a bland cutout
Biggest letdown of the season in my opinion. She was such a great character.
im also sick of all these people acting like jinx’s “redemption” was the only way her arc could go, like have they never heard of a negative character arc?
@@TheRoyalGherkin Yeah exactly, you can have a character go from good to bad lol. They don't need to become the hero. They did the same thing with Caitlyn where they make her a literal dictator who oppresses the people of Zaun but in the end shes just the good guy.
I feel like you are missing the point I her character. Jinx was never polticially motivated ever, she only did everything to get the love from Silco and now he is gone she isn‘t invested in the war between the city’s, cause she never was in the first place. She did what did cause her inventions are her dedication, but she never had an evolved plan or true goal with it, she wanted to help the people around and that didn’t change rather it is her being Powder or Jinx, she just landed her powers to Silco who fostered them to the point they actually became useful. Now that he is gone and Vi is gone she doesn‘t have anyone she is doing it for and her whole path was her accepting her destructive nature. With accepting herself by the end of season one, accepting that she is that destructive force, that she is a „Jinx“ the only possible path for her to not dragging everyone who she cared about with her (or in fact kill them) is to remove herself from the situation. So when she met Isha who she cared about she did excactly that but when Isha died she got reminded again that she just is that destructive force and that she cannot walk away from so the only way out to not hurt any more people she cares about, to not loose another person is to commit suicicde (at least in her mind). I feel like this was Jinx’s whole story arch in season two and I actually feel like it was well done.
Killing it bro
Thanks man
So i am not thr only one whi felt season 2 was not it at all
if you have to be told everything and cant be shown you should probly not judge a show the fact you cant infrence from whats happening is crazy
It's the fact you have to use AMVs to tell a story. That's cheap, bro.
Season 2 shouldve been solely about Zaun and Piltover conflict coming to a conclusion. Then maybe they couldve done the Time bomb and hex tech thing in S3 even if the season was shorter.
I think having redemption for Jinx is fine but this whole arc would need 3 seasons, not 2. On this 2nd one she should be commited to her Jinx role and on the 3rd one we could have the showdown where both Zaun and Piltover need to act together as one to face the larger enemy. Maybe along the path Jinx could have some events that would slowly bring her back closer to Powder (but not quite). The show isn't supposed to finish character development where the game is but is still weird to call her Jinx if she isn't it anymore. She is neither Jinx or Powder. So at best she should be something else by the end.
Vi could've just picked up the child from on top of Jinx.. and then have Caitlyn arrest Jinx..
True lol. Yeah the Hextech Gaunlets could definitely have gotten her off, I didn't even think of that.
@@GenerationOffended Yes, maybe with the help of the hextech gauntlets she'd be strong enough 😂
How nice to hear someone who is not driven by feelings, but by thoughts to talk about this series. It seems funny that some people who are driven by feelings say things like Arcane 2 is a masterpiece, or that it was perfect, or that it was perfect even though it was rushed or that it changed their lives. Arcane is not even close to being one of the best series. These most curious statements about this series happen because talking is free.
They crammed to much in nine episodes and 1 season. The stuff with vi becoming an enforcer should have been an entire season and should have focused on vi and Caitlyn and their squad chasing jinx. We should have had more time to Viktor starting a cult. They should have built up ambessa more. Same with Mel. Ekko and heimadinger should have had a season to bond and dinger should’ve focused on his gadgets and played a bigger role. Warwick should have had a few episodes before they realized he is vander. Jayce should have had more time to build a rivalry with Viktor. The reunion stuff should have started in season 3 and have ended bitter. Vi and jinx should have stayed rivals at the end. Vi becoming a lot fighter should have been an episode or two after season 2. We should have made it a little bit a a war in season 2. Vi and Caitlyn should have been butting heads a little more. Caitlyn should have never forgiven jinx. Isha should have shown up in season 3 and played a smaller roll as a follower and then die trying to be powder/jinx and die failing reminding jinx of her past. They were doing too many things and trying to change things in a unnatural way
When Jinx said "Jinx is dead" i gas lit myself into thinking i must have misheard. But man.
I quite literally rolled my eyes when I saw that. Just a spit in the face to the audience really.
This does not bode well for squid game season 2
People are coping saying this was just "too rushed" being rushed doesn't explain the writers chosing to assassinate characters, include multiverse nonsense, etc. a good story will still be good even if rushed if fellowship of the ring got cut down to 1:30hrs it would still be a solid watch.
Yeah being rushed is just one of many problems, i agree. Well said, they ended up pulling a Marvel at the end
Your videos are a breath of fresh air, I feel like I've been sniffing crazy glue sometimes with how effusive the praise has been for this season. It's definitely super flawed.
Thank you, yeah some people are really digging their heels in to defend this show. Its got really high ratings as well which is surprising to me. They won’t learn to fix huge mistakes like these if everyone gives them praise for bad writing
I'm so glad to read more critiques of Isha. There was a better way to push Jinx's growth and development via her reconnecting to her Powder-self (EKKO!) instead of creating a literal mute child as a Powder projection to reposition Jinx as an older sister too. Jinx relating to Vi in that way was never really the point of her arc so I don't get why they bothered with it.
Yeah they just made Isha to justify Jinx becoming the good guy for some reason.
Gah! Sevika makes no sense in this season. In S1, she hates Jinx and wants her gone but after Jinx kills Silco, who appears to have been something of a father figure to Sevika too, she wants Jinx to be a leader. Jinx has no organisational skills in S1 and even ruins plans with her solo runs and crazy behaviour. Why the F%^$ would sevika, Silco's second in command, want or expect Jinx to be able to lead. She'd be much more likely to want her dead for her role in Silco's death. She'd be much more likely to organising the resistance herself, which we've seen the begining of in S1. Don't even get me started on the fact that the writers just 'switch off' Jinx's mental illness. Yeah, because that's the way it works when you hear voices and see dead people.
I really liked how they handled her mental illness in s1. You can even see the signs of it early on, too, when it came to high stress situations, but having isha be this magical schizophrenia off button was a weird choice like I get she's supposed to be a powder stand in but having a little sister doesn't make you mentally sound.
after the fight scenes in s1 the jinx vs vi fight was soooooo disappointing.
Yeah it was ultimately pretty weightless. It had no real lasting impact on the plot.
I want to love it but I don't and there aren't many places you can go and express that. The season felt as it was a glass half empty.
I am here to facilitate your disappointment. I think there was a good portion of the fanbase that was disappointed but it seems like any criticism for this show gets shot down pretty quickly.
watching this made me realize whats really flawed with s2. to me, s2 feels epic. until they reached ep8. ep7 was the last good episode (and the best too). everything in ep8 just made me realize that everything in this season was truly, truly rushed (well, it was a late realization) and made me question wth is actually happening. then ep9. i cried a little bcs jinx "died" but besides that i dont have anything to say. i really tried to like it because i was rooting for all of the characters. caitvi, jinx, ekko, jayce, viktor, mel, ambessa, sevika. but i felt empty after it ended. mostly because idk what was i supposed to feel. caitvi, the couple i was looking forward to the most, ended up together. but it only made me go "um ok?" looking back at s2e7, it made me realize that the relatively slow pacing of the episode made me enjoy it and gave the audience time to get to know the character's personality. just like s1. s2 is mostly action/plot focused which is something that i enjoy but i can see why it fell flat compared to s1, especially after that unsatisfying finale.
I can see why everyone really liked episode 7, not only was it slowed down but it also wasn't depressing. This season feels like a huge downer a lot of the time and it has very little lighthearted moments compared to S1.
Yeah glad to know that I am not the only one who thought Jinx’s character felt off in Season 2.
Yeah she was pretty much a different character entirely. I would like to know why they made this rapid change, i think its because they wanted to keep her as the show's mascot.
@@GenerationOffended I mean Yeah I kinda expected to be something like Vass from Far Cry 3 after Season 1.
I was so happy when I read that they were only planning to do two seasons of Arcane, thinking that this meant they would wrap things up well rather than dragging things out for as long as there are viewers. Now I wish they'd stopped with season 1 - the second season was so disappointing, and it's a relief to see someone discussing it critically (for the life of me, I can't figure out why the internet seems to have lost their collective mind about S2).
arcane s2 is like a really beautiful envelope with no letter inside.
😂😂😂 it's as useful as the letter that's not in it
Part of it is definitely your voice, but this video gave me YMS vibes. His older stuff, specifically.
I never watched his stuff before, but i just took a look and lol, you think i have a similar voice? I appreciate the comparison nonetheless his channel looks interesting
@GenerationOffended not how he sounds now, but how he sounded from around the mid-2010s. Mind you, it's also the old vibes his videos used to have. I did mean it as a compliment since this video was really good 👍
@@hughieD369 Thanks man I appreciate that.
Small minded bullshit. You’re pathetic
Explain why. That arcane's story is mediocre is not an opinion or a point of view.
I feel like the only reason people think season two was a letdown is because season one was just extremely amazing and season 2 was hyped, i though it was pretty good 🤷♀️
Btw I just checked "The last Agni Kai" OST from Avatar over the sudden. And it struck me with how beautiful it would've been if this Season was dedicated to war between Piltover and Zaun, and Jinx and Vi as well. Just imagine at the dusk both Piltover and Under-city blazing with fires, as Vi and Jinx stand on the distant ends of the same bridge with bodies all around them. It would've been such a dramatic emotional finale and actually be a good parallel to the Season 1 beginning (of course if good writing of the whole Season beforehand is provided). Violence that only breeds violence, the cycle that repeats itself and the suffering which wrong doings and misfortune brought to everyone.
Thats a much better idea than what we got in the show. Wish we got something like that instead of whatever the finale was. Nice job
I’m only going to watch season 1 because I just didn’t understand what the point of season 2 was. It felt empty of story and they packed it full of characters to make up for it 😂😂😂
The relationship between jinx and vi was the emotional core of the show, it reflected and impacted the larger conflict between piltover and zaun, and just like how that conflict was sidelined in season 2 in favor of ambessa, viktor's army of mannequins (among other antagonists) the relationship of the two sisters was also sidelined
Completely right. They just got pushed to the side and really did nothing with the main plot, Jinx and Vi had no effect on the outcome of the hextech plotline.
@@GenerationOffended I want to say jinx and vi's final moment was similar to luke vs vader in RoTJ, physically disconnected but has a relevant symbolic and emotional connection to the overall war but I can't, that was kinda reserved to viktor and jayce
Something like that would have been better. I don't get how Ekko was able to bring Jinx back from the edge instead of Vi. Something like you described would have been far better for the story instead of the half-fast mess that we got.
Yeah Honestly it’s sad to sad that While Season 2 was still kinda good. I say Season 1 felt like the better season, I was hooked from beginning to end on Season 1. But for Season 2 I loved the first Act, 2nd Act was feeling rushed. And Act 3 while Beautiful animation just didn’t feel like the proud finale to end on.
Arcane season 2 is a extremely polished turd
Exactly lol
