Dyno Tuning the Blue Devil - 1992 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo
I was honored to tune my friend Denis' fully built 1992 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo best known as the Blue Devil.
While a busted MAC valve left us running only at wastegate duty cycle we made the most of it. Denis's goal wasn't any specific number chasing but to get both the pump 93 and E85 dialed in. We accomplished that on the Haltech Elite 2500 with the flex tuning and maximized our MBT. Seems like this car easily sits in the 600s to 700 if we ran 35 psi.
555 AWHP/475 TQ on 20 psi (wastegate spring) at 6230 RPM

Great video, will this work on a 2016 Subaru STI?
Can you do a clutch replacement video on this car? Transmission removal process and such especially on an AWD, there’s literally no video on it.
@JoyLong Ahh, unfortunately I don't have any expertise on those areas.
My gto made 354hp crank on 9bs and standard injectors @14psi and feels plenty fast on the road. Great work
Got memories with this car owned a 1991 Mitsu gt 3000 miss that car so much
Hi. Can someone help me with the xml file for my evo? MN132874 ecu part number. 4 port.
Very nice!! Hey man where are you located? Would it be possible for you to tune my 3g eclipse with a 4g64 engine that is DOHC swapped with an egr delete? Its currently N/A IN Trying to fix some idle issues first
Likely if you are running ECMLink or Haltech. However, if it's not turbo powered there's not a lot to be gained on the NA.
Buttery smooth... and 555 hp! WOW!
Hi. I have an evo 8 from 2003 and i bought tactrix open port 2.0. I scan my ecu but its says something about unknown rom image. Some help?
Yes, that means you don't have the XML definition file for that ROM on your computer. You can save the file you downloaded from your ECU and email it to me at RacerXPerformance@gmail.com. If I have a matching XML definition I'll send it to you.
@@Morgamania2i send it. Thank you a lot! ❤
Love Dennis's car and very good numbers for only 20psi! Was this on pump gas or ethanol? Does he have a pcv issue why the plume of smoke after letting off at 4:37?
We did both fuels. Final numbers were on the ethanol but the pump 93 supported the same. Yeah, not sure yet about the smoke there after the run. Denis will investigate for sure.
The stealth TT and 3000gt vr4 are my favorite tuner cars from that era. They look great and are really fast when they are running. Thanks for sharing with us.
Beautiful
Nate's twin 😂😂😂😂😂
300 hp FWD or AWD was available
@@louisbabycos106 Yes, that HP at the crank rather than at the wheels.
Never heard of these before, dope video!

@@myeronsorhaindo4928 During the DSM days Dodge sold the Eclipse and 3000GT/GTO under Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, and Dodge Stealth. The Stealth were JDM, like the 3000GT, both manufactured in Japan while the DSMs were put together in Normal, Illinois
@@Morgamania2 AMERICAN MITSUBISHI 3000GT made in japan

My mini r53 is running that tuner through bytetronic
This is such a slept on machine.
Nice!
Did the car run like shit when you lost signal?
@@Toobluejzs147 It ran okay because we were just in that part throttle area. But it had to be fixed to do our tuning properly. All of these sensors are critical for proper tuning.
@@Morgamania2 on my car i loose connection to map sensor or tps intermittently then ill let it cool off and it drives normal still can’t figure it out. Drives like shit when it happens and idle goes up and down too
Sick video thanks for recording that
@@shawnsebikesandstuff15 Appreciate the kind words!
Is this running the original gst trans or does it have a built gsx trans without the t case? if its still the gst trans where were the parts sourced to build it?
I know it's a built trans but I don't have the details on it unfortunately. :(
im trying to pull a rom from a base lancer 2004 1.8l how to?
It's the same process. The main thing is you'll need to get your hands on the XML definition file for that ROM so ECU Flash will know how to display it for you.
@@Morgamania2 but what ECU function do you select??
@@krayslick6400 You'll have to find your memory model number or select the best option from those available. Possibly SH7052 or SH7055.
@@Morgamania2 My car is a CVT 1.8L.. and I trying to just pull the ROM from it.. but with the ECU options I don't know if I can .
Doesn’t the intake charge get far to hot without beefier intercoolers?
Indeed the better your intercoolers the cooler the charged air can be, leading to more power. The best intercoolers will produce a 10 degree difference before and after. I have a dual temp sensor for this purpose.
how do u like using redline? is it better than oem mitsubishi
Yes, I've been using Redline since I first got the car. Very happy with it!
VR4 FTW
Have you ever managed to connected mut3 software suite, to 3000gt/gto/stealth? I realise they are using mut2, I'm looking for simplest cheapest way to read all the computers on one of these mut2 systems. not interested in any programming
Great video. Thanks for making it
Nice vid mate. What about the power supply? One is for the signal cable and the other one should be negative or positive?
signal is your positive, other one is ground/negative. the wires should be non polar so either one can be + or -
oh look its Afro_car_guy. That dude in blue did a review on this car a while back lol.
Doesn’t look near as fast as mine was but still a cool 3s . I love them ALL! Good patience , good driving .
Hi frind i hope you are fine i have lexus protocol ISO 9141 Wich ecu tuning software can work on this ptotocol Am from Oman
me tuning my ethernet adapter.
I was also running 400hp awhp EU spec with 13G turbos stock. just new intercooler, fuel pump and boost controller. ofc new clutch and flywheel. Running twice the fuel pressure on stock injectors.
How did this turn out for the customer? If I understand correctly, the sudden drop in boost pressure paired with sustained high engine speed during shifting is what is causing the enrichment, right before the engine speed drops when the clutch reengages? Is the feedback from the closed loop understanding that the boost pressure has significantly decreased while engine speed has stayed the same and is trying to compensate for it? Could the changes you made be at all harmful to the engine, or not so much because an engine speed of 5500rpm in a vacuum is an impossibility in a turbocharged motor? Thanks for the great video as always.
This car went under the knife for a series of upgrades after the video so we haven't been able to test this theory out yet. Hopefully it will be ready to get back to tuning in the next month or so.
64 block with a 63 head?
Yes, correct sir.
now thats a tune! 🔝🔝🔝
Is that obd1-obd2 adapter with the RCA jack a 2.5mm or 3.5mm?
I can't really say for sure but you can find it here: chromedecu.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/IMG_51951.jpg
@@Morgamania2 thank you very much! Is there a way that I can buy the adapter itself? I looked very closely at the one I have and the RCA jack has the wrong amount of rings on it. The one you linked me to has the correct amount of rings. I believe the jack is where I’m having my issue of not being able to flash my chrome ECU.
Is it possible to reduce the psi of a spring witht he mac valve ? By supplying the pressure from underneath to push the spring up ?
That's an interesting concept. I'm not sure though theoretically it sound plausible. Most people are just going to replace the spring in their wastegate if they want a lower minimum boost pressure.
Hey, nice content, new subscriber here. Who built the transmission and what they did to it. Looking to make same around 600 horses. But my GST transmission I guess wouldn't handle it very reliable
Awesome to see you are keeping this gem alive. I would hate to do track days in USA with all the restrictions the tracks have. Watching the video feels like you are in public roads with higher speeds. The whole passing on straights only triggers me.
It's only that intermediate run group that has that restriction. The advanced group can pass anywhere on the track with a point-by. Quite a bit more freedom there!
I had a 1991 Galant VR4. Good to see your 3000 running great.
KEEP EM ALIVE!!! (3000gt)
This is fantastic vr4 content. The subtitles are the cherry on top.
So i will add one thing here. I have been tuning ecm link sense 2009 have done hundreds of cars ect. Nothing in here is per say wrong but if you notice your lb/min of airflow looked like it max'd at mid 40lb/min. When doing SD to make that accurate i like to set VE to 100 at 5-5500rpm then adjust global fuel to hit 100 ve. Then do rest like you have. When doing it this way the lb/min will be very accurate vs HP on dyno. So say car makes 55lb/min, the car will make right at 550whp depending on dyno and compression ratio ect. To do it this way thought a person has to know what is a normal expected global fuel % to be able to tell if it requires a global number out of the ordinary as that would show a fuel supply issue. I have seen people do it much worse though then this video tuning wise with ecm link, More of a even though car is hitting the target fuel its calculation of air flow is wrong. This is the way us old boys do it so the air flow calculation match's hp.
All good feedback is well appreciated.
For the EVO guys you probably can simply use the 0-5v Analog input from the rear O2 sensor, disable it in EVOScan then assign it as a logging value with the spec from your manufacturer, DSM guys do it all the time and i was looking into EVOScan and you can as well
im blushing
great video thanks for sharing
just curious how many miles were on the motor at the time
Hmmm...I can't remember. My car, on a similar build, had 117,000 at the time.
Whered you buy that IAC if you dont mind me asking 🤔
The IAC in this car is part of the Jester MAF. I'm actually on speed density on the AEM so the MAF is generally ignored. The only value coming from it that is used is the IAT. Ideally I'd delete the MAF and just install an IAT after the intercoolers. The Jester MAF is great for people on Chrome as it reads farther than the stock MAF helping you to get beyond the theoretical ~400 horsepower limitation.
What about the electrical connections?
It's pretty straight forward. There are only two wires and polarity doesn't matter. Take one wire and connect it to a switched 12 volt power source. The other wire goes to the pin on your ECU that manages the wastegate duty cycle output. That will vary based on the ECU you are using so refer to the pinout in your ECU manual.
@@Morgamania2 I have a jester chrome ECU for my TT. Would you happen to know which plug to pin into?
@@kiweeltyler3586 If I'm correct on the first generations it is pin 105 and on the 2nd generation (94-97) it is pin 102.
@@Morgamania2 thanks! I have a ‘92 TT Stealth I’m working on. So pin 105 it is!
Hey there, I have mitsubishi 1996 FTO mivec GPX. I bought a tactrix with all the cables I could, but where find OBDI adapter for my car?
Hello. I'm not too certain but on the FTO from 1996 on they say it is OBD2. So it would seem no additional adapter would be necessary.
I'll give my tactrix and mitsubishi cable ago tomorrow, then I need to read all sensors as the car has been running rough at random times. I have replaced every sensor besides the crank angle and ignition sensor.
@@MrShortStuff Great! Keep me posted!
Yep I can use tactrix on the FTO but having issues copying the file.
