New rider gets a leisure ride through Deep East Texas
This gentleman on the CRF300 messaged me a few days ago, wanting to go on a ride. This is how it went.
Was a good pace for a new rider.
The best part is how he handled the sand, he never froze up, just trucked right through it.
More seat time and he'll be a ripper.

How to ride an ADV bike in SAND!
มุมมอง 1.1K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
I'm not expert, this video is just my opinion on how to get over the fear of riding a bigger bike in sand, and what techniques I use. I hope it helps!
There's some nice 2 track in our back yard (kinda)

Met up with Scott, and he showed Matthew and me some nice roads and 2 track around our town that we didn't even know about!

Sweet route! I'd like to ride that one day
@kerrysnider442 it's not a bad route. It's the only thing I could think of to take a new rider to.
It would be easier if you stopped using 4 fingers on the clutch. The secret is to learn one finger clutching, so you can keep 3 fingers wrapped around the bar. 4 finger clutching is for street bikes.
@BoonBoonitube i typically use one finger, but half way through the ride my finger was getting wore out so I started using 2, then 3, then 4 lol.
@@TyHuffADV there are strategies for reducing lever pull force. You can move the clutch perch inward, they re are also clutch purches that decrease lever pull. I think there is also a modification you can make at the lever arm on the motor.
Dont go make noise when people are camping. Heard bikers at 7 in the morning waking everybody up😂😮

Getting comfortable I see 👊✊

PLANING: You using the analogy, PLANING, triggered an "Ah, HA" moment in me (from sailing ... where there are light-weight 'planing' boats ... which are FAST). I, too, have watched a LOT of TH-cam videos on the subject, including from some top instructors (in their minds, anyway) ... and yours is the best, most succinctly useful explanation/guidance I've seen !!! Thinking about it also suggested to me why instructors and others can ride sand on those heavy-weight touring/Adventure bikes, running on semi-street tires. I suspect that the wide-spaced knobby (and paddle) tires help mostly in GETTING STARTED (in deep sand) from a stop; once moving, speed seems to make up for lack of wide-spaced knobs ??? THANKS - for the truly Great explanation and most useful minimum speed guidance.
@discoveror9576 in my experience, getting the bike going in sand is hard on any tire. But I believe you're right, if you're already "on plane" any tire would ride through it.
@discoveror9576 thanks for the great comment, I'm glad someone found this helpful
@@TyHuffADV Though the bike and tire industries would love us to buy a different bike and tire for each surface, speed, obstacle (and situation), in reality we often/usually have to use/ride a less than optimal tool, especially for temporary situations. The notion of PLANING OVER, rather than plowing THROUGH, sand makes intuitive sense to me ... and explains (to me) why 'momentum' is invariably associated with sand riding. From now on, when I hear the term 'momentum', my mind will translate 'momentum' to PLANING OVER ... When sailing planing boats, we spoke of having enough wind for 'planing speed', where the boats literally can climb OUT of the water to skim/plane OVER the water. GREAT FUN, btw. MANY thanks for the required speed and planing insights ... SO valuable.
Nice Riding, I have been there on the 2t. I need to bring the T7 next time
@@enrique60033 the T7 handles it well
So I’m in Florida area, seems like similar conditions sand wise and on a Tuareg (so basically a Tenere) My fear is the front end tucking and throwing me over the handlebars at 40mph hence why I slow down a bit to 20/25.. this is all in my head?
@@rapha2667 that's definitely all in your head. If you keep constant throttle and some weight over the rear, you'll be much safer at 40mph than you will be at 20mph.
can you do a video of Raleigh 250cc or warrior haujin 20cc
@egidiusrono8597 i would definitely do a video on one, if someone provided the bike for me lol.
10 minutes of talking and repeating yourself a lot...and 8 minutes of riding on sandy roads with only gloves as protection going 60...you are novice on this and in no way supposed to advise people how to ride...not yet or change the video titles .. how I ride and adv in SAND! Speed is not your friend ! Experience and knowledge are your friends..not yet yours, but you can get there.
I hate sand! 😂😂😂
Great video. I feel like sand is 90% mental. But even knowing that sometimes it will still get in my head! You're right about riding the big bikes in the Sam. Too many tight turns to always keep your speed up, and a lot of the deepest sand is right in the turns! But it's still a blast. Keep it up, you make cool videos.
You need to try a sand section on the 500.
@@Kalani_938 i don't want to fall in love with the 500 and end up buying one
@@TyHuffADV you can never have too many loves 😂
Thanks for doing the video! Next video is going over logs and what not to do!lmao
Idk if I'm at the level of a log hopping tutorial lol. I get lucky with every one I hop over.
Do not run Shinko big blocks in sand.
Right now I'm running an Anakee wild rear tire and a Dsport front. I'll go to a Dsport rear when I wear this tire out.
@@TyHuffADV Motoz Desert HT are kick ass
I love that place. Sand can be tiring on the big bike though. Y'all did good.
I have got to get out there. What is the trail with that crazy trail. I want to try that.
I have no clue of the names. We followed a guy that knows the place very well, never once looked at a map.
Don't worry , you will find crazy even without trying.
Hope Matthew found him some nice comfy drawers 😂
That occasional brap brap from Scott cracks me up.
Heck yeah. I live right right outside of woodville. Where are you riding at?

@BigDaveTALKS it was parts of the east texas 450 and some other roads that we put together on OnX
Good to see that T7 getting broken in right. Enjoy it ole son
Once I get the feel for it, I'll be ready to make it scream a little. Already loving it.
Looks like your friend is still running the stock tires or are they something else? What park was that with the Karen? Good vid btw.
@Txfire409 he has the k60 scout tires, they aren't great for the slick stuff. Was hanks creek, I wouldn't have put the Karen in the video, but she was very rude (I edited that part out) so I thought she should stay in it lol.

Ya'll are on the equestrian trails and breaking the law, there are no motorized vehicles allowed in that forest.
@stephanieh6893 I was unaware, we were invited to ride a private piece of property with permission. So either we were way in the wrong, or you are confusing that area with somewhere else. I just followed the leader.
Yeah, the colored diamond trail markers are the equestrian trails, and the orange blaze marks on the trees show you're in the national forest but not on a fs road 👍
@stephanieh6893 thanks for the information, I'll be sure to never ride out there again.

Isn’t it a nice feeling when you’re slow or stopped on a KLR and it gets off balance. There’s that moment where it’s still far from being on the ground, but you know that’s where it’s headed and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it except get out of the way.
