I mean, I’m protesting for sure… Genoa luffed for a while on the starboard boat, pretty clear he had to avoid
Que tendría que haber echo el barco que está amurado a estribor para evitar que el otro lo adelante??
Ils lui ont quand même grillé la priorité.
Phew! I got all emotional watching that. The skill. The calm demeanor everyone put forth. Masters of their craft. Very cool to see
High risk. High reward
Damn stole that breeze like a villain!😮😂
No one seems to be wearing a life jacket?
The ole mctwist sail for 360* of wind
Beautiful.
Cheesy Muzak 😂
And in the j80..you are probably going 2+X times faster than most of them too
*ships, not fleets
I meant different PHRF fleets (ie different groups of boats that had started their races at different times).
So nice
Nice job with a polite “protest” yell and flag deployment.
The J80 needs to establish the overlap before entering the mark zone. (normally 3 boat lengths). At this point the J80 needs to call for room at the mark. From the video it is not clear when the overlap was established. The J80 was overtaking boat. If the J80 established overlap inside the zone then he was not entitled to room.
The overlap entitlement is established with the first boat that 'pierces' the zone..which could be either boat. I think thats what you are saying as well
We’ve had a lot of that light air too this time of year.
quite an eclectic group of boats!
Hopefully it doesn’t shift and go to 50 knts!
I got protested once and lost! Was so shocked. Def though I was right
Good montage!
Interesting sky and clouds that explains the issue.
I've never seen something worst than racing with the motor at the aft.
How about fenders on the side?
Nothing wrong with it! If you have an outboard and you don't have to take it off it should be your choice.
Love the port tack start, in the correct situation.
Sure is an awful feeling watching that starting to happen and then realizing you are without good options. Good to be in the fight at the mark but sure feels better to be clear and calling your own shots.
WAFI's
just waiting that minute to do the penalty turn is enough for the protest to hold up in many hearings. Looks like you are in a J80...but the other boat, not quite sure what it is...did they have the same start with you? (At WYC we have 8 different starts for about 120 boats on our main race evening and we often catch up to PHRF classes). Keep the video's coming!
doesnt matter if they are the same start or not.
Doesn’t matter if they were the same start (rule 10 still applies). In this case, it was a PHRF race and they were, in fact, in the same start. (We race one design on a different night).
@@NatBaddour Yep!
would love a brief commentary to go with this. thanks for the vids
We had that happen last week ourselves...and went with another boat and started to doubt ourselves since we were not with the bulk of the fleet. The other boat that went with us won the race.
One design is the way to race!
High quality racing right there............
Pinch up or ease the sheets. Dangerous stuff.
Um… leeward boat = stand on vessel…. Maybe, just maybe?
Rule 18 is always fun..even in light air slo mo!
Perfect squeeze from 99, although they were OCS. You weren't close enough to close the gate.
Guy at 0:56 - what is he thinking running into the back of you?
PROTEST! WE PROTEST YOU! First crazy words I heard during my first sailing race many years ago as a newbie. I'm like "protest...wtf?" Then back at the club the Commodore is like 'ok folks those with protests fill out the form and your hearing will be scheduled'. Jesus I thought to myself these people are serious about their racing. Yeesh!!
Looked clean to me…plenty of room. If 99 had stayed on your starboard you could have luffed him up, but he just cruised through.
Why is Eminems music even suitable for sailing? = )
what camera are you using? also check "2024" typo in the title
GoPro Max (360 camera). Thanks for pointing out the year typo.
@@NatBaddour i have same gopro and love it but recording in 360 mode drains battery like crazy
What software do you use to edit? I have one and am struggling.@@NatBaddour
@mikegeer4088 I use the GoPro Quik app, it’s GoPro’s own software.
No overlap establish at the zone entry so the guy broke his own pole while fouling the leeward boat.
How was he infront of you to begin with when you're sailing a J80?
He’s in a different division, in a different start, we are actually a lap ahead. We are not even racing against him - just on the same course.
@@NatBaddour in this case you definitely right he is an asshole
Leeward boat…. ‘No overlap’….. heads up and hits windward boat…. Windward boat… ‘Well you hit me; I guess I had an overlap.’ QED 😂😂😂
@@keithmoorechannel It all depends when the overlap was established. From the video it appears the inside boat established his overlap too late and was not entitled to room at the mark. That is why the leeward boat hailed "no overlap" informing the inside boat he had no room at the mark rights. At this point the inside boat had to keep clear.
Excellent
I hate mark roundings...😖
It's surprising this video came to me. I am a french sailor. Please excuse my writing, because English is not my mother tongue Very interesting video and also very well done video, we can see a lot of things. Let me comment : First J80 1067 should not have its engine on the rear when racing. It si forbidden by J80 class and we understand why. Second, Can 106 should not have his spinnaker pole oustside the bow, on the wrong side and with a sheet still in it. There is plenty of time to clean and prepare when going upwind. At the first buoy, can 106 had no right for space, but J80 give him plenty of. The problem is not to chnage his mind at the last second. The two dog legs buoys are very close wich is not a good idea. It helps to break boats ! At the second buoy, J80 669 had right for space and J80 1067 took risk to close the door. J80 669 touch the buoy but it doesn't seem to be a problem... At 00:37 the jib is probably to tight as the boat is not sailing upwind. And the two peaples who are looking at the buoy and doing nothing else could have prepared the spinnaker and be ready to hoist it sligtly before the second dog leg buoys. At 00:37 the spinakker should be like it is at 00:54. Looking to the two "V" boats and considering the J80 669 position at 00:08, the J80 1067 had lost at least 4 boat lenght in this dog leg. Hope it helps.
Nice, definitely captures that feeling
Lookin good! I love it that you have a star in the mix
No worries

Is that a loose halyard?
Yes, the thing floating around is a halyard. It cleats at the mast, about a third of the way up.
