In the very early 80's Hamer made a couple of A7's for Andy Summers, who apparently only wanted one of them, through my friend I was able to buy the other one. I still have it, one of the best R&R gtrs ever though slightly heavy. I used it with an early midi system (still have the 24pin cable) it worked well but was clunky (unreliable) at times.

Every time I go there the sales people say " there's a sale going on right now" but the prices were always the same. 😅😂.

I grew up across the street from Paul’s parents. I remember watching him jam in the backyard. It’s one f the reasons I started playing guitar.

While I have never played one, the original Hamer Standards are some of the best looking guitars I have ever seen. The tops on those guitars almost look too good to be true...but they definitely are true. hehe. People who have them swear by them.

Fantastic! I can't wait for part two. I guess I'll just have to spend the time waiting playing my Hamer Standard. I purchased it 20 years ago and it's been my #1 ever since. It's a lean, mean, classy machine. If it wasn't for the Cheap Trick Budokan album and the pics of Rick with Standard, I would probably only be a Gibson Explorer fan, which is ok. I love me some Korina. But it's not a Hamer Standard.

My friend Jeff bought Hamer #61, new. Somebody famous(Martin Barre) tried to buy it out from under him, but Jeff kept it. If anyone out there has it, let me know.

I went shopping for my first REAL so to speak guitar. Obviously eyeing the choices that Gibson and Fender had on the shelves in my local stores. This was 1979. The only thing within financial reach for me was Gibson The Paul and I just didn't care for it. The strats were to expensive and also had poor choices. So I go the back street music store. You know the kind full of old band instruments with a couple floors of vintage stuff over top of the main floor. I explain my problem to him and he says look what I just got in. He had a Hamer Sunburst. I believe the price was around 700. I played it, loved it and bought it. It was Les Paul killer. It was perfect. I bought another one of those in 79 also. Well in 1980 he got a Standard in. The big stores were bound to Fender and Gibson. This guy who sold mostly used was Hamer dealership. It was as new to him as to myself I suppose. I still have the standard and it is a 4 digit. I'm getting up there and considering selling it but the price is shooting up a couple grand a year on them. I rarely take it out of the house. I have never owned a Gibson. Don't care to. I do own two telecasters. An old early MIJ Fender Tele a Deluxe Nashville. Both were bought for 350.

What an amazing documentary. Cannot wait for part 2 - as a Judas Priest fan, I sincerely hope for the same 'deep dive' into KK's V's, Glenn's Phantoms and GT's (which to hear Glenn describe them are brilliant in how that bottom bout is supposed to rest on your leg to hold the guitar in a position to stretch to 'shred.' Very well done - especially exposing how Norlin and CBS forgot that guitars are for players. This is 'must see' video for any boomers and Gen X who were just discovering guitars at the time Hamer launched.

The only 'factory' guitar brand ever made that is quality. Do credit Jol Dantzig who made them, not the money dude that has his name on them and messed the company all up, though.

Rick Nielsen mentioning the 60,000 picks he gives away, reminded me to look for my "1" certain pick I got in a candy package when I bought a guitar from reverb. No name on it. Perfect for certain guitars and songs. Glad this was audio and great story. Looking forward to Part II

I once worked for GC in 1988. I was the accessories dept mgr. I left after 6 months. They paid me minimum wage and GIP bonus. An additional percentage after you sold a minimum of an unrealistic monthly expectations. In my 6 months there wasnt one employee who recieved a month end GIP bonus. Morale sucked! Ray Shear was still the principal owner. Although the Hawthorne Ca store was 30 minutes south of the original Hollywood corporate store, Ray never made a visit to Hawthorne. If he did he would've seen a dilapidated filthy building. The inside joke was that Ray was to busy yachting, partying with celebrities and didnt have time for the trench workers who helped him achieve success. Products and inventory poorly displayed. Sluvenly dressed sales people. The texas store mgr was brought in to make changes. Unfortunately he was a pint size arrogant and uninspred to improve the morale and filthy store. My duties made it impossible to make any commissions. At minimum wage i needed to pay rent, groceries for my family of 4. My wife had to take on a job waitressing. Fast forward to your video. I frequently the El Toro Ca store for vintage electric guitars and have picked up some killer fiddles because the staff had no clue how to price them. Especially unknowable with Gretsch guitars. August 2023 i bought a 1988 6120 for $600.00 there were 3 sales 'mgrs' (as all the sales staff are titled now) all three sat behind the counter talking about their personal lives. I was noodling on the gretsch for 20 minutes or more. I put the guitar down and walked to the check out and asked, "is there someone available to assist me? I have questions about the guitar". One of the 3 young men said, "whats up?" I sarcastically replied "gasoline. Rent. Groceries. The cost of living" the young man said, "ain't that the truth". Welked to the back corner of the store and i asked him if the Gretsch came with a case, case candy like truss rod key, owners manual etc. He said to to all. I asked if i could order a gretsch case through him. He again said, "No. You'll have to hunt one down on the internet. This store was once a great store. Its now 4 walls brick and mortar filled with great equipment, gear etc but also filled with uninspired, unknowlegable and lacklustre employees. I walked out with a gretsch 6120 in excellent condition for under $650.00 I knew it was worth over $2000.00 without a case. This uninspired sales mgr gave away this guitar. I bet the regional mgr would be pissed off to know they lost a good $1000 to $1500 profit. Oh well their loss is my gain.

I first recognized Hamer from def lepard using them in the pyromania days. For some strange reason I always thought they were a German company.

Abour guitars there are some occasions that I do regret. I used as to visit a shop that where as mainly into used instruments and on a wall kind of off there was a Hamer Chaparral Snakeskin. A bit battered it was one tuner was broken but nothing big. This was in the 90` s pudle rock was totaly out of fashion and of cource also them cool guitars. So it was dirt sheap I could have bought it on the spot but I did not, snakepattern...what will people say? At that time eveyone was afte them simplest of Teles and them offset, that ugglyer the better! Guitar business that is an funny business.

In light of Gibson's unattainably-priced guitars these days, perhaps Hamer could come back.

Best sounding guitar I ever owned was a Hamer Flying V. Red with a large fat neck. I was offered stupid money for it. Newly married at the time, my wife found out how much I was offered. Couldn’t believe I didn’t want to sell it. She said you have what 10 guitars?! Lol! She didn’t understand. But I did sell it. Wish I hadn’t. Never heard one like it since. The middle position was like the best boost pedal you ever heard. Amazing.

My studio archtop has a life tone and a neck that is perfect 35 years after it came home. Still a gorgeous dclp.

I have a Hamer 335 made in Indonesia and it’s amazing. I put a couple Gibson pickups in it and it’s as high quantity as my R8 Les Paul.

I used to stare at the Hamers in Ward Brodt , finally got a red Sunburst eventually became a mod on the Hamer Fan Club and also had their key man endorsement, Hamer and their fans are the best

That was wonderful, sad to say my attention span these days (like most people) is very short, I watched from start to finish totally enthralled... cheers 🙂
