Battle Hymn of the Republic
The Battle Hymn of the Republic
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on
Glory, Glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His day is marching on
I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel
As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel
Since God is marching on
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Since God is marching on
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our God is marching on
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free
While God is marching on
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
While God is marching on

I served under many commanders, but I only enjoyed serving under a few. Usually, they were prior enlisted that went officer later in their career. "COL. Potter" would have definitely made the list.

0:29 - Whether it's a TV show, standup, or Aristophanes, the best jokes are funny no matter how far in the future you end up hearing them. When they don't come at the expense of the exploited, downtrodden, or victimized they either age slower (based on then-modern tech, engineering, etc.) or barely, if at all.

So-called "Harry Morgan" wasn't even his real name. He sold-out his birth name of Harry Bratsberg to 'Hollywood'.

I really didn't like the show until Harry Morgan was cast. Before it all seemed to be too much of a cartoon. I didn't like the way Margaret was portrayed, Burns was an idiot but they needed a foil. Winchester was far better as a foil because he was a human being, not a cartoon character.

Colonel Potter's advice I always check people on was something akin to, "You've got good people under you; let them do their jobs." Every manager I've ever loved working with has had a keen understanding of people's strengths and was trusting that they'd follow through with an assignment. Made work so much more pleasant, and made people want to give it more effort, too. ❤

Sherman Potter was a Career Warrior , a Tank Man . Full Bird Colonel in the Last Billet of a LONG Career . A Great Leader that had been passed over for the General Ranks . Henry Blake was a Medical Administrator and Very Talented Surgeon , Light Colonel Rank . Drafted in , similar to Hawkeye Pierce , but earlier in the War. Chalk and Cheese .

I’m a teacher and student council advisor at my school. One of my newly elected student council officers told me they thought the person they won against would have made a better choice for their position. I used this scene to give them the same advice Potter gave Klinger “make the job yours”

  • @rossmartenak5517
    @rossmartenak5517 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

First of all, so called "Harry Morgan" wasn't his real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name of Harry Bratsberg. Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Studio or Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?! The ONLY reason a name change should be done, is for a woman when she gets married. If a woman gets married and DOESN'T change her name, then she doesn't accept the sanctity of marriage.

this scene always reminds me of a time I was guilty of not giving a new pastor a chance. the minister was dressed in average clothes when I first met him. the church he was starting at was an anglican which had the ministers aka priests dress up in robes. at this time the minister was coming in after a very influential one was selected to be a bishop of one of the diocese's. I said to him not realizing it "I hope this idiot realizes he cant replace ---------(name redacted)" and his response was "well lets see" and later he was introduced to the church and gave hgis first sermon from that pulpit.

Radar's shoes were hard to fill, but the character of Klinger was a good choice to take over the position. He was already well liked by the audience, and was pretty funny much of the time. I do like how Radar could read people's minds though.🤣

And lets not forget that Klinger was familiar with how every division of the camp functioned, because he was in trouble so often and Potter was always assigning him to work in different divisions as punishment.

Col. Potter reminds me of my old fire chief in my department, Curtis Shields, was like an uncle to me after my dad died when i was 17. Curtis replaced our last chief we had, Wayne Shirk in '95. He wasnt better or worse than Wayne, just different. He took the time to take the job as Chief and make it Curtis Shields's, and he gave me the same advice Col. Potter is giving Klinger and all Klinger needed to do was take some time to learn how to do his job, and if he needed some help, all he had to do was ask, and Col. Potter would have helped him. I wish Col Potter and Henry would have met. RIP Henry! The 4077th will never be the same without you! 4077th, hand salute! (hand salute)

I would storm the gate of Hell with a teaspoon if a CO like Potter asked me to do it. It's a shame that one of the greatest and most inspiring COs was only a character from a TV show.

Colonel Potter was much better than that drunk Henry Blake. I was so happy when he left and they made sure he couldn't come back. My only worry was that Col. Potter would return in his crazy General character. No, he did not. MASH was one of the few shows which got better with every new replacement for a departing character.

My favorite episodes are after they got rid of Blake and Frank...especially Frank Burns. Yes, Winchester was an arrogant elitist, but at least his character grew and was funny. Harry Morgan was a great addition to the cast, a true leader. My favorite episode is shortly after Potter arrived, Radar gave him Sofie...very touching. Never had a horse, but have always loved them.

people nowadays are so terrified by change. you see all these ads offering support for our "world being very much on fire". it feels almost as if everyone has developed Autism and Asberger Syndrome. they have become so terrified of the change that is has become a crisis. they want to build a new bridge, that's a crisis. the climate is changing, doesn't matter how it's changing, just that it's changing, that's a crisis. I could go on for dozens of examples. if you give us 4 times our problems, we are still better off than the majority of the world's population. if you earn $30k/yr, you are in the 1% of the world economy

I never put the two together. The Sherman tank is a cavalry vehicle introduced in WW2. Col. Sherman Potter was cavalry in WW1, then a medic in WW2, and finally at MASH 4077 in the Korean War. I wonder if the character was named Sherman and was a cavalier because of the tank.
