You got this D!
Go Declan !
Awesome to see you out and about thanks for the update 6 more months see you at the start line
You're still going 💪 That's what counts. Still another 6 months of training to go. You'll be all good 👍
Hi Declan how’s the training going
Hi. Honestly everything stopped at the end of November, but I am happy to report I got out of my funk and starting walking again in late Decemeber. How are things going for you?
@ training starting to ramp up all getting serious now just watched your latest post looks cold personally not seen snow in over twenty years. I am a Brit but live in Malaysia
@@1969iane I love the snow, I'm not sure I could go 20+ years without it. You've got a long trip to The Walls start line, and I thought I was far away.
@@DeclanGrayAdventure I also had a dip in training in and out of clinics for test but got the all clear ramping up the training now looking for a 50k in March/April but not many races going on down here at that time All my gear is ready to go have the same waterproofs as you but went blue very hot for this climate Long run run tomorrow going for 4 hours🤞🏻
Lesss go Declan!!!
Good work! I did the first one back in ....maybe 2011? it's a great trip
OMG only 29 weeks to go, I better step the training up! See you on the wall! Make sure you have got your electrolites and salt tabs fully trialed, nothing worse than nausea, aching joints and screaming muscles can be overcome but once your stomach goes its hard work.
Do it Declan!!
I will keep trying.
Have you thought about cycling to keep the cardio up
Cycling and cross-trainer have been on my list to get some cardio in for a few weeks. I'm planning to go to the gym tonight.
Bad luck with the injuries. I hope you're back in action 🤞🏃♂️
Good to see your recovering see you at the start line
Does this mean you will be doing The Wall?
@ yes my second attempt had chest infection last time had to DNF
@@1969iane I'm sorry to hear that! How far did you manage to get? Do you have any advice for a couple of newbies?
@ well over half way just picked up some sort of bug and it just drained me had difficulty breathing but once I stopped felt ok As for advice get your mileage up practice all long sessions in the gear you plan to use on the day and try and enter a few shorter races in your build up to get used to the feeling of running with lots of people at the start and the feeling of the start of the race
Sucks about the injury mate. Very sensible to take out the higher impact elements of training but keep doing something in the gym. I think that no matter where you get your training plan from, it will always have the potential to bring on these over use injuries, and need to take a break during the training block. You'll get there! 👍
Yeah, I was pretty frustrated last week. Since Saturday I've been taking it super easy, I plan to test out the bike either Wednesday or Thursday and see how I hold up, just 20-30 minutes to begin with. I'll also add in some weight sessions next week, but this week is resting. I'll get back to it, I'm not as annoyed about it anymore.
keep going man!! Im currently training for a half marathon
Thank you. Nice. Do you have a specific target in mind for your half marathon?
Good luck on the race!!!
Thank you. I'm sure I will need a bit on luck on the day.
Do you use Strava or Garmin? I'll help keep ya accountable if you want 😜
Keep it up man! How many km do you plan to do per week by the new year?
Thank you. If I keep going with my plan, increase total distance 5km every 2 weeks, then by the end of the year I should be doing 55km per week. Honestly not sure how realistic this will be, I will listen to my body as I don't want develop an injury.
@@DeclanGrayAdventure Do you consider yourself prone to injury? I would say your plan is quite conservative! You're starting easy and building slowly. I think 55 km a week by the new year is selling yourself a little short of anything, but you know your own limitations better than I. Our bodies are made to walk if nothing else. If you prepare your body for long distances, as you are, it will adapt and become stronger with every passing day. Have faith in the process. Nine months to train is exactly the right way to do it. You can be an entirely different person at the end of that timeframe with the consistency you're displaying here. If you stick to your plan, there's little that will stop you. You got this.
You got this!
Keep going, man! You got this!
I just randomly landed on you video. Keep it up, 39 weeks are a long time to evolve!
Thank you for the kind words.
Cool video! What camera do you use?
Thanks. I use the DJI Action 3 camera. I like it, however, the internal MIC doesn't do great when it is windy.
My go-to fuel is honey, maple syrup, and table salt mixed into water. Two soft flasks filled with that mix and you're set to not hit the wall. Personally, if I'm sustaining very high intensity I try to get 60g of sugar and 1000mg of sodium (roughly 2g of table salt) per hour.
I will have to try that some time. For my long walks I always have salt tablets with me just in case.
A 70-miler! Nice. What's the longest distance you've previously covered in a day?
A couple years ago I did 50km (31 miles) in one day. Most recently 25km (15.5 miles). I would like to complete another 50km before the end of the year.
@@DeclanGrayAdventure Good on you. I have my first ultra (ECT Ultra 50) coming up in 5 weeks, it's very exciting! I see that The Wall is 113km in a max of 26 hours. A solid chug-along pace of 13.5/km to finish seems achievable! Subbed to see your journey.
@@BenDeroy Only 5 weeks? Not long to go now, that is exciting. I agree, very achievable. It is designed so that it can be completed by walking. Of course we would like to go quicker than walking. We'll set ourselves a goal closer to the time, but at the moment i'm thinking 18hrs is a good goal to have. Thank you. Please do comment again with how your Ultra went.
nice! lets go!
Good video. Don't you use Facebook? I looked for you on Facebook but couldn't find you.
You can do it. There's loads of time yet. I've been having a few doubts about my target pace for my upcoming first marathon. With 3 months to train I've decided it's going to look much better closer to race day.
Thanks so much for the encouragement! You're right, there's still plenty of time to build up and make progress. I totally understand having doubts about your target pace. With 3 months left, you’ve got the right mindset; your pace will improve as you get closer to race day. Keep pushing forward, and trust the process. We’ve got this! Which marathon will you be doing?
@@DeclanGrayAdventure thanks 👍 I'm doing one which involves doing laps of a race track at Oulton Park, UK.
You found a beautiful place to do your training this week. Inspiring your friend to do his training is also a big win. That hill walking will be very useful for the wall 💪🏃♂️
Sounds like a much more active week. That decorating can be hard work. I missed a run this week after a day at a theme park with the family. I got lots of steps in that day but didn't have the energy to run afterwards. Have a good one 👍
You've got this. Having your normal routine will make a huge difference.
Good luck with the training. Very sensible to give yourself 47 weeks to build up.
Thank you so much for the comment! Yeah, I'm sure these 47 weeks will fly-by, events have crept up on me before.
Good for you for setting a tough goal and then the objectives to reach it. Get after it and just never stop going and you’ll get there one step at a time. I’ll be following for inspiration!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! Setting this goal has definitely been a game-changer for me. I appreciate you following along for inspiration-let’s keep each other motivated and moving forward! Stay tuned for more updates!
Next time!!
Keep them coming! Love the journey!
Keep up the excellent work! Skatås Parkrun is excellent!
