Paul reminds Timothy and likewise us, that if you ever find yourself leaning
towards timidity of purpose to not get complacent and fall for the lie, but
to rekindle the fire that is already within you.
“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is
in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6 NIV . That gift
of God is the power of the Holy Spirit living within him and living within
every blood washed believer. In other words, reminding him that it’s not
by his power or might but the Spirit of God working in and through him.
The gift is always there but there was a need for more fire. Timothy was
to fan his gift to full flame.
An untended fire goes out and becomes
ashes. But when we tend to the fire and fan the fire, it is ablaze. Fan the
fire within you by spending quality time with the Holy Spirit. This assures
that no matter how inadequate you feel in the flesh, you can expect the
Spirit’s power and love and levelheaded self-control, to rise up and take
center stage, enabling you to drop the coward and be a Lion.
