    There is one notable flaw in the study I cannot resist highlighting: the control groups are kind of terrible. They can’t really “control” anything. Ashar et al. told the people in the placebo group that the injections were saline solution, so … yeah, not actually a placebo control there.4 And the usual-care group had the same problem they always do: you can do literally anything to people that’s “unusual,” and it will probably outperform “usual,” and that doesn’t mean it’s effective. Dr. Edzard Ernst called this design “unethical pseudo-science.”

    CBT I did not understand at all, so annoying, I only got bored and more pain because I had to answer useless questions? I did not even know what to say and kept wondering why did he ask me this or that ever after (only more anxiety unwanted one as insecure feel). I thought I came to hear why I have pain (because of real issue) and not made up talk, I got very annoyed and near argued. I even gave him chance few times, but nothing, only annoying and cause more pain just to talk. It's painful to talk, not like you guys can talk a lot but saying you are in pain? It is painful to talk, you know?

    I have fibromyalgia but nothing that you guys talk about pain processing etc danger does not apply. May be you are over sensitive because of menopause or medication and that's why? I do not understand anything, it's pain and I can not affect it lol and anxiety it helps pain (adrenaline) not like you saying something else. I have different pain, all the time pain and not because of some emotional. Also you have no proof that pain is not due to real problem. They just can't find unless severe case of disease when clear cause.

    I am new to this type of approach to combatting pain . I have been living with a diagnosis of CRPS for 15 yrs now . I am both open to yet very skeptical this approach to treating my pain . I am working with a Pain Psychologist who guiding me towards this type of treatment protocol . Thank you for yet another affirmation that this type of treatment is in fact real . Another item I have found in question is the amount of opioids I have been on affecting my brain processing anything . Is it fair to say that use of opioids repressed this function of neuro plasticity ? Again thank you for this information .

    Not knowing I had Hypermobity Ehler's Danlos until two years ago has been quite a blow. Turns out the whiplash could not heal as all over my body my ligaments are like string vs rope as intended. It was explained to me that my head is on a faulty foundation. It is a collagen and tissue disease with no cure. Bracing, topicals, heat, cold therapies are all I have. Certain areas are worse due to injuries earlier in life as well. Appears aging with it is quite challenging. Trying to be positive but affected from the soles of my feet to the top of my head. It can affect any system of the body. I have challenges there, too.

    There is not a single therapist dealing in PRT who will give you the exact tools to handle a bad flare-up even when you have thoroughly convinced yourself you are healed and this is, metaphorically speaking, a false fire alarm. All they have to offer is -- 'accept without focusing on the inevitable emotional aspect of the pain, don't fight it, tell yourself everything is fine and ride the wave'. This is at best a coping strategy, not a remedial one. The science can tell you loads about the underlying mechanism but comes up short when you need tangible results.

    • @kathleenpohlman9727
      @kathleenpohlman9727 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the only way out of chronic pain is through acceptance that your pain is being caused by central sensitisation also known by various other names such as TMS. Getting to this acceptance is of course incredibly difficult, if not impossible for most people. I am living proof of a person who has overcome debilitating pain and other symptoms for as long as I can remember and I have also been hospitalised twice because of the mental toll it took on me. However, you are probably wondering why I am now here commenting on a video when I am cured? Well, the answer is that I am back in chronic pain but in a different part of my body and I am going through the same process that everybody else goes through where you search for an answer and nobody seems to be able to tell you what's wrong in your body. Currently I have chronic shoulder and arm pain and despite very expensive and extensive medical tests I have yet to receive a solid diagnosis. I am at the point where I have to again bring myself to the acceptance that what I am experiencing is a manifestation of stress and associated emotions. The scientific literature around mind body pain is so strong now that nobody can dispute that there is a direct link between the mind and the body when it comes to chronic symptoms. Ultimately a body that is experiencing stress, or call it anxiety, is in an altered state and when the body is in such an altered state pain or other symptoms is an obvious consequence. I don't think there are exact tools to bring about pain relief. I can only speak from my own experience but all the symptoms I have personally overcome only went away when I had no option but to realise that behind the pain was fear. I have had more therapy Than most people that I know are none of it brought about relief. An example of My pain was chronic and debilitating headaches 24 hours a day for well over 20 years. As you can imagine my life was living hell because I had to essentially adjust everything I did to accommodate my suffering. I am absolutely telling the truth that one day I sat in the car crying my eyes out because I wanted to have a nice day at the beach with my wife and yet I was in excruciating pain. I went home sat on the bed and literally told myself that enough was enough and I kind of had a moment of clarity. It just hit me like a ton of bricks that I was perpetually feeding this pain because I was frightened to death of it. I decided that I was going to no longer let the pain dictate my life and I started to do everything and everything that I considered a normal person would do. Within about two months these headaches completely and utterly disappeared and have never returned. Unfortunately, pain moved to various other parts of my body and I had to go through a similar process where I was worried to death about what was going on before I came to the same realisation. At one point in this journey I had a brain scan because I thought something serious must be wrong. The results of this scan were that my brain and the rest of my body was absolutely fine and the consultant who gave me my results actually adamantly stated that my issue was rooted in stress and anxiety. I simply did not believe him and I continue to suffer for quite some time before that day came along when I had simply change my mind about what was going on.

    When I had young children toddlers and I was home alone with them all day with continued responsibility into the evening when my partner was home I swear I heard or had thoughts in a different voice telling me horrible things I would shake my head and tell the voice no out loud if anybody had ever seen me doing it my children might have been taken away. I love my children and always have they are now adults but I couldn't cope with them and was afraid to admit to anybody. It is so important partners and families ask these questions even to seemingly coping mothers it is so draining you literally can lose your own self and become almost another person. My children were well behaved but with a few health problems which gave me further reasons for stress the self doubt is horrible and potentially a trigger for some people. So I can relate to the hearing voices as people state but more in a suggestive way than a direct command in my case giving me ultimate control.

    We in the USA are very fortunate to have a freshly caught mass killer in Bryan Christopher Kohberger to put under the microscope. He seems to have had a caring upbringing from devoted parents with no family abuse. His female schoolmates may have been abusive to him. He seems to be socially awkward due to some reason we don't yet know. He seems to have developed violent ideas for reasons we do not yet know. The upcoming trial should tell us more. Particularly if he chooses to testify. Your input would be elucidating.
