Rosie's 1st Album / Photographs and Memories - Jim Croce
Soon after my mum went into a care home (2010) I scanned all her old photo albums and put them onto discs. We would go through them together on her little TV/Disc Player when I visited, to help with her failing memory.
Around the same time I made this short slideshow with the photos from her earliest album. I uploaded it to TH-cam back then, but accidently deleted it about a year later.
So here it is again. RIP mum.

The first photo in this slideshow is one taken by my dad Bill. The three small children, left to right, are my cousin Marie, myself and another cousin Teresa (the man is Teresa's dad, my uncle John). Very sadly my cousin Marie died a few weeks before Christmas 2017 and just a couple of months before her 60th birthday (Jan 24th). Marie loved good music and great songs. So I'd now like to dedicat...

Sorry about the slight distortion on the second track, it's an old one from the 1960's. The copyright to the sound recordings remain with The Sex Pistols ('Pretty Vacant') and Zoot Money's Big Roll Band ('Please Stay') respectively, as well as with their record labels. Copyright of the photographs belongs to the individual photographers (John Cox, A. Holding, P. Simpson & myself) and a few cour...

Copyright - Colpsongs UK and registered with the ISA (October 1989). I wrote this song around 1985-6 and recorded it on a 4 track (Fostex X15) sometime in 1986. In recent times, folks have suggested that I wrote it about my mother, but I didn't, as my mum was only 60 years old or so at that time. About 20 years later though, it became very relevant to my mums situation. It's a song about loneli...
Joe Jackson - Hometown - Images of Blackburn
มุมมอง 5K14 ปีที่แล้ว
I claim no ownership at all to this recording, nor some of the photographs come to that. I've always loved this song by Joe Jackson. Great words, great melody and a fine performance. Love the Johnny Marr style of guitar playing too. I think Joe was singing about Portsmouth, the city he grew up in (''waves and seagulls'' which we don't have in Blackburn), but the images that I have put with it a...

    Royal Duke, used to reherse for Mexican Overdrive in there. Think it was the Royal going up towards Audley that i got my first pint at 14, One time the owner was passed out and the locals served us on a saturday afternoon. The George that is a Chinese now played a gig upstairs there as well.

      Ex St Peter's school 1940s to 1950s and St Mary's College. From what I read, Mill Hill seems currently to be an unhappy and troubled part of Blackburn.. Back then it was dirt poor but a lovely, peaceful place to live, with easy access to Pleasington fields, Witton Park and beyond.

    Memories! I bought my first beer in the Forrest’s Arms on Wenslyfold. It was December 1979 and I was 13. Just finished carol singing at doors to earn a few quid. Had my school uniform on under my snorkel Parka (but took my tie off). Had four halves of mild and a Hamlet cigar! Got to laugh. I was asked my age though, but landlord clearly did not care that answered 18 but clearly looked 13. Drank in many of these pubs across the years. So much nostalgia. Did not much matter that I was only allowed a bath once a week or the frost on the inside of the bedroom window, just seemed a much better time than now. Can’t accuse me of being drunk, I only drank mild.

    Do you know which streets and locations on the pictures

    • @MrBlackburnlad
      @MrBlackburnlad ปีที่แล้ว

      Apologies for the late reply. I'm sorry I don't know the majority of the locations. The only ones I could guess at are the first photo of the two little children (one of my elder sisters and my older brother in the pram) would probably be at the rear of my parents first house in Pendle St (Blackburn). The wedding photo soon after it, is a small chapel that was/is at Brockhall Hospital, where my aunt & uncle (bride & groom) worked. The photo of the 4 young women was from when my mum worked at a mill in Clitheroe, taken in 1949 according to what's written above the pic, so I guess it was an evening out with workmates probably in the town. The 2 little girls at a backyard door, again either in Clitheroe or Pendle St. My oldest sister, sadly no longer with us) is the girl at the front. My mum under a tree, again probably Clitheroe. The people on the bridge, my maternal Gt Gran is one of them, was taken on a bridge over the Liffey in Dublin. The photo of mum holding a dog, again in Clitheroe, but I wouldn't know the address. The 2 ladies, one sat on a dustbin (my aunt Irene and her mum), again in Clitheroe (address unknown to me). My mum framed by a back yard gate (again Clitheroe). The military photos would be various barracks and probably places they were stationed at, they're of my 3 uncles (all now passed) who were respectively in the Royal Engineers, the Irish Guards and the Royal Logistics Regiment/Corps. The photo of the 2 army guys, arms folded and by a fence, was taken when my uncle Richard was stationed in Egypt. Possibly during or just after the Suez Crisis. I hope that helps!
