Pizza Pile!!! Dynamic Proxy to High Res Deformation in Houdini Vellum (Project Files Included)
มุมมอง 4.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
It's easy enough to sim a single piece of low res geo and then point deform back to high res, but what about when you have multiple objects? And what if you want to generate them on the fly? What about when you've got more than one mesh!?!?! Tricky stuff! But it's actually not super difficult once you wrap your head around it. Let's take a look. Great stuff.. thanks a lot!
so helpful - THANKS!
awesome series, I hope you keep making content as the houdini content on youtube can be sparse. question for you: do you personally do your hard-surface modeling in Cinema4D? what about your rendering? just curious and sorry if you already mentioned it in a prior video
Great channel!
🤠🔥🪄
Yo! Awesome. I had no idea you’ve been making this series. Good stuffs. 🎉
This is amazing thank you!
This tutorial series is super helpful! For some weird reason, I had to use Single quote sign (the ' sign) instead of the regular Quote ( '' ) to write that expression. Thanks!
Interesting, I’ll take a look. Maybe something changed in 20.5
Very informative, Nice one! :)
Thank you so much for you latest series. I have been able to learn so much from you, because you present complex in a way that helps me, a rank newb, comprehend. For Ex..., casually mentioning the scale issue...who does that? And yes, you nailed the process (of rage googling), because I go through that, regularly (and menthol-y). So until you're better paid, but at this point, I'd probably buy anything from you, cuz I relate, and you proved to me in this world, the best teacher is the one that treats imperative information, not like an unmentionable trade secret, but an imperative that should simply be mentioned, casually, with a wry imperative that brings such info into focus for a one celled Houdini zygote, like my self. So, a waste can here, a .01 there, I'm beginning to feel like a may not need to deport myself from this multivesre of x_ops, after all. You've made an internet fan boy of me, and I've just typed and confessed way too much in public, but what the hell, a little harmless genuflecting never hurt anyone, especially when they deserve it. So I'm sure, along with every subscriber you have, and ever will, don't stop here, or now, because hungry birdies in the nest could care less about what they put their mommies and daddies through, they only want more ;-) (so all of that aside, sincerely, THANK YOU 10,000 times!).
Wow, thanks so much! I’m beginning to plan out the next series now. Have fun learning in the meantime! Houdini is tricky but worth the effort
You helped me immensely sir. Thank you VERY MUCH! <3
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Hi! thank you for the tuts!! One question... im getting one material per primitive instead of one material for each shape that you have. What i am doing wrong??
to be more specific, its like the mats dont work. there are transparents
Not quite sure what you mean, but if you’re really stuck, shoot me an email ry.paterson@gmail
for attribute delete just select the attributes you want to keep and check the "delete non selected"
Yep, also valid. Slightly less procedural though. If your setup changes upstream you’d have to manually select any new attributes you wanna keep. It all depends on the specific scenario, and the more ways you know, the better!
thank you!!!
Your videos help me so much, please keep going!!!
Start the video by number 00 is the most Houdini thing haha
Nice! I was actually doing something similar to this but in a less efficient and more complicated way, so it's great to know a better one.
Great content bro! Thanks!
I love your videos!
Thanks so much!
Cool. Escape the matrix;)
Thank you so much for this series. Looking forward for next videos.
ok I"m subscribed. Lets see where this goes.
Thanks. Helpful series!
Keep going and don't stop! Everything is very cool! thank you!
This was awesome. Thank you. Please keep making them!
Looking forward to the next video with more complex scenes! I remember starting out with Houdini a few months ago, spending a whole day figuring out exporting/importing files and how to structure everything in an efficient way. Learned a lot of things from this video! ✌
(just wanted to let you know! the text in the bottom right of ur thumbnail is cut off by the video length number!)
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll fix that today
@@regularmentholstill not fixed
@@kdee1428 haha yep I am lazy. I checked and pretty much all of my vids are the same way so i might just leave it and just stop doing that in the future. I’ll add a disclaimer in the description with the copy
@@regularmenthol its fine bro xD
@@kdee1428 ITS NOT FINE
I remember that in art school I frenquently had corrupted .FBX files... And the only way to fix them (suggested by the teacher) was to open them in Blender and re-export them as .FBX from there.
Looking forward to your videos the vibe is appreciated.
and what about how to export a video to a grid in Houdini, in blender it is done by drag and drop, and it is not so stupid that you have to create a sequence in Houdini
I'm not sure what you mean!
yeah bro
@@regularmenthol if I need to make a monitor and run a video on it, in Houdini/redshift, I need to create a sequence of this video and attach it as a texture. and in blender you can take any video from the Internet and connect it as a texture. and unfortunately, I did not find how to connect mp4 or mov in Houdini/redshift 🫠
@@rolandsheroziya ah i see. Sounds like Blender might be a better fit for that purpose. I believe Redshift only accepts image sequences as textures so you’d need to pre-render it first and then hook it up
@@rolandsheroziya in a professional setting you would render the screen as a UV utility pass, then put whatever you want on the screen in post.
You explain really good! For normal people, thanks!
Great explanation! Keep up the good work!
Just in time! I was trying to ROP FBX export today and houdini crashed every time. What could cause this? Even when I Cached File prior export. USD export of same GEO worked fine.
Hmmm sounds buggy. I'd have to know more about the file to diagnose. Throw it up on reddit r/Houdini if you're on there or feel free to DM me on insta. Or just go with USD! Also a solid option :)
this is super helpful! if i wanted to emit a mix of all 3 variations on the same frame, do you know how to tackle that? currently its breaking on the point deform post-sim...
EXCELLENT. Thank you!
Not sure if I can state it exactly like that, but I have two notes in my notebook on the relation of groups and attributes in houdini that helped me: 1) When looking at the spreadsheet, groups can also be described as an attribute with a group name and boolean datatype. 2) If using attributes to create e.g. noise and fallofs, you can use the methods you showed in this video to create group selection based on attribute values, e.g by writing @attribute > 0.5. I found those two insights helpful to connect some concepts
Like it! Thanks for watching
hey, just tried following this tutorial but Octane doesn't show up in my shelves. I am on a apprentice license, so I'm aware I can't even use a 3rd party renderer, however I wanted to try installing it regardless to see if it loads properly. Am i just not seeing the Octane shelve because I'm on apprentice?
Hi, yeah you won’t even be able to see it on apprentice as far as I know
This is very helpful, thank you !
🤘
Thank You very much!
good job
Dabbling in Houdini the last few years, I often hear a voice inside my head - there must be a better way. Lookin forward to more of this great format & knowledge-sharing!
Hey thanks. I have a question. I am c4d octane guy and slowly learning houdini. Wanted to know if Houdini version of octane works without any limitation (missing features like reading attributes etc). I read redshift and other engines works flawlessly.
Im also just making this switch. Tried redshift, it works flawlessly. Karma was too huge a switch for me. Octane cant read any other attributes than floats it seems.
I would say that Redshift is more robust for Houdini yeah. Depending on what you want to do specifically Octane has some workarounds but out of the box RS is a tighter integration. But Octane is cheap and so dang fun!
Hell yeah
thanks for this, i wish houdini was easier with plugin instalation, also feel you with lops, at first i tried it, hated it, couple of months later i tried it, hated it, couple of weeks back i tried it again, and it clicked for me, now im starting to like it
Hi i m new to houdini and 99% stuff is new to me. What is the advantage of lops over traditional method and why he is saying death of creativity.
@@SidharthGanguly as for advantages, i like karma xpu, it doesnt crash as much as redsift for me does, and its easier to set up multiple shots, lighting and material variations.. good for lookdev.. for big studios ofcourse compatibility with pipelines and overal robustness of the system, but im not the guy to ask about that
Hi thanks for watching :) As the other commenter has stated LOPs is much more efficient in a pipeline, however for smaller projects I find that the excess of organization kind of takes me out of the creative zone. It’s not bad per se, just a different approach!
Amazing,thank you
Great tuts man! Please keep it up!!
Nice
hell yeah
