Here we tie my ultimate deerhair gomphus dragonfly nymph. This pattern has stood the time of toothy battle after toothy battle just to go out in search for more. With the addition of the overbody dubbing loop the pattern becomes very robust and sure to become the only gomphus dragon you tie and fish #flytying #flytyingnation #fly #flyfishing #flytyingaddict #fliegenbinding

    I don't know how old this pattern is, but it has been around for a very long time. This is one of my favorite BC flies! I'm curious, have you found it to be more effective each time it is taken? I have for sure. I like the little bit of sparkle you put on the tail, nice work! Thank you for sharing!!

      @Beardedtroutsflies 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do find the more beat up the better with a tom thumb as it creates more surface wake.... the tail flash addition is a nice new touch i added... did it help during the day.... possibly.

    Damsels are great! There are so many patterns, but they come in handy. I tie a fly that is supposed to be a generic Damsel, I'm not sure it is. I tied it for Inga Lake North of Fort St John. Basically it is an olive Green Floss Body, with a Pheasant tail tail about 1/2 body length and a collar made of Pheasant Tail. That's it! Nothing more. I fish it in the grass along the shore, works well. Thank you for sharing!! Very good video!

    I wasn't going to subscribe to another thing channel, not that I subscribe to that many as it is. My standards are high for the unfortunate few and I will explain because I am not a snob at all. First you have to be positive in your presentation. I hate people that use terms like "Ripping Lips," or name their flies after sexual innuendos. I do not watch videos that give nothing but music. To me this is being lazy, not my cup of tea. You need to give good advice, don't keep posting flies in a title that says "You'll never need another fly pattern!" There are so many who try to make that claim, yet they will show you twelve patterns that are "The only fly you need!" Yeah I know and I apologize for being a snob. To me tying flies is Therapy, it is communication, it is fun! Ok there is one more thing. I'm from BC. I hate where I am right now. I despise where I live, so I use tying to keep me sane. As you can see my name is Kerry. I grew up in BC. First on Vancouver Island, then my family moved north and I thought "Why Not?" So I lived, fished and hunted in the Fort St John area for 23 years. It was amazing! I started tying August 01, 1969. I remember because I got a tying kit for my Birthday. No real instructions were available but I stuck with it and thanks to Helen Shaw's book "Tying Flies," I got it figured out. So 53 years later I am stuck in Alberta, the sphincter of Western Canada. About all I can say about this province is it has a bit of the BC mountains in it and you can drive a distance to some good water. My health has not been wonderful but I sit at home and tie a lot. Do you do business with Troutbum.ca? Daryl is in Abbotsford and I do a bit of business with him, good people! I'm on my third video of yours, the cats are hilarious. Sorry I'm so difficult, but if you ever need anything just let me know!!!

      Thanks for the subscription and the honest comment! I am not a fan of music tutorials or clickbaitish titles.... so you have no worries. Just flies tied with pride and cat hair!! They are entertaining and add a unique touch to my videos. Yes I do a fair bit of dealing with troutbum.ca good guy and great products.

    I use a Danbsel fly at the local sticker lake and catch the biggest trout in the lake 8 to 10 lb Rainbow's. I sell they fly for 100 dollar's each and 2000 dollar's for the pattern. The reason it's so much is that it wins big fish if the year and big derby most every year. It has already paid for all of my fishing gear from the boat and everything. It's not the long mint wooly bugger in the inset photo but that's a good fly and you couldn't go wrong with that.

  • @hankvana2149
    @hankvana2149 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The weight of the beadchain eyes will cause the fly to fish hook point up (like a jig), you might want to use (melted) monofilament for the eyes or tie the fly "upside down".

    • @Beardedtroutsflies
      @Beardedtroutsflies 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true they do tend to flip but my on water testing has shown the fish don't seem to care year after year. This pattern i typically strip fast so its tough to say which way it rides in the water coloum I also tie alot of damsel eyes out of ultra chenille or seed bead on melted mono... more for the slow moving patterns and shallow water fishing during the emergence.

      ever use the cats fur?

    • @ronaldruneric4804
      @ronaldruneric4804 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HalfInsaneOutdoorGuy -- I have. I have strayed from using dubbed bodies recently, though. I think dubbing produces bodies that are too fat and unrealistic. Aquatic insects never have furry or "buggy" bodies. On dry flies, fur might improve floatation, but I doubt that it does. Now the fur on the pet comb is just discarded.
