Stormworks SAM Testing
Testing some simple SAMs from a modified Allen M. Sumner class destroyer. I spawned in a bunch of Luftwaffe planes from my WW2 Vehicle pack for the Improved Conquest Mode (ICM) add-on for Stormworks.
The SAMs are using default/vanilla game components, no XML editing or mods.
Using missiles against WW2 propeller aircraft is a bit one sided, they are slow and have no countermeasures, but the missiles worked very well, and had a ~82% hit rate.

Someone on Reddit told me the reason flooding doesn't work is not because the physics are broken, but because I don;t know what I am doing, and doors need to not be touching each other to actually act as doors. Doing some more testing to try and make the AI enemy ships sink somewhat realistically. Learned that High explosive hits can break the pressure / flooding system, and a ship can somehow have less flooding after being hit with HE cannon fire (by over half), and a save/reload at least partially fixes it,

NOTE: I repeated this test on 2/28 after v1.10.4 update with another flooding fix, no change to the behavior. Another test trying to make sense of the Stormworks Pressure system and flooding. 8 identical hulls, each with a method of sinking. Stormworks Flooding test

Sure looks like ship flooding/sinking is broken. No pumps, already took two 5x5 torpedoes on the near side (so four total), plus another four 3x3 torpedoes on the opposite side, and one in the stern, plus some HE cannon fire. Has no bilge pumps, no reason the Sea Water on the fluid sensor should ever decrease. This ship should be sinking like a rock with this damage.

    Considering that the ticket number has risen by over 2000 numbers in just two months on one of the sites you showed, i would say that probably just dont have enough people on that forum to look trough the tickets. Sure it also could be some low priority stuff, but why dont you create an alt account if a problem really bugs you? I´d say that would be the quickest and/or easiest way to deal with such a problem. Or multiple alts to flood the forum if its urgent...

    I don't understand why they haven't addressed the sinking issue yet. There is no point in playing the game if your actions have no consequences. I can literally open the hatch of my submarine 300 meters below sea level, and no water rushes in.

    the devs have explained this over and over again, i don‘t know why people are still fretting about this. the behavior is intentional and only applies to doors oriented horizontally. the reason are moon pools. it avoids accidentally flooding your hole ship in an instant when you forget to close one of the secondary doors that leads to your moon pool room. its a concession the devs made conciously to players who are not aware of the intricate details of how pressure works, so that they, too, can enjoy their creations and the game. if you intentionally want to use doors to flood your ship just use vertically oriented doors and the flow rate through them will be much higher.

      I did a bunch of testing, even doors on the sides flood really slowly. The flooding issues are just a symptom of the completely jacked up pressure system.

      It is not just horizontal doors, also, a decent pressure system would work for a noon pool with a realistic pressurized interior but the devs fucked that system

    it worked perfectly as soon as the space update came out. but they had to disable it because of all the death threats from the community saying their boats cant float (most boats did float) now none of them sink

      That is not why. Water flowing through doors and buoyancy are entirely separate systems, after they released the dumpster fire that was space and broke most people’s boats, jets, tankers, submarines, and more, then they eventually fixed bouyancy but the pressure system and fluid flow through doors remains broken

      I believe it is intentional for doors placed horizontal to allow moon pools, which I get. That said, doors are still very broken even when placed horizontally for allowing pressure and water in and out. did another video on that. th-cam.com/video/9840M36NLao/w-d-xo.html

    I built an entire submarine on this premise, in the creators own words, stating that doors could be used to flood and vent compartments, and it first it worked really well, after like, the 3rd update, it was faster to pump it in and out, that was until another update made the fluid and gas filters practically useless for anything other than really small tanks.

    Totally agree with the points in this video. Im pretty sure im not on low priority but a while back I reported an issue that aerodynamics have no effect if the airspeed is under 15 M/S and provided multiple examples of how I came to said conclusion. They then responed by saying that they dropped a plate of blocks from high in the air and set the wind speed to under 15 M/S and it still moved in the wind direction. What they failed to realize was that since the plate was moving down the realative airspeed had INCREASED to something likely over 15 M/S. They then closed the issue and so I couldn't respond and explain the error. This is still a problem today and makes it so you can't create any slow flying airplaines or sailboats(unless your sailing in gale winds). To be honest though, that response was probably better than how they would respond now.

      Of Improved Conquest mode? They work fine in either, actually I think they are the same at the moment. Toastery made the fixes for all the stuff that got broken by the Stormworks update, and pushed it to both. No point having the "stable" version broken.

      Hadn't thought of that until you mentioned it, so I tried it again with AP and it did the same thing. Ship was flooded to ~70K liters, after hitting it with ~50 rounds of AP, it dropped down to 23K and stabilized there.

    I remember, i reinstalled Stormworks to mess about, i enjoyed the physics of flooding and would test ships out like in the video with certain things doing damage, seeing what it'll live against and what would kill it, so i could use it in multiplayer doing scenarios. I was in disappointment realizing that flooding is broken, no fun. Stormworks in my opinion is a buggy mess that will take a while to fix, each update (sometimes) breaks something critical to gameplay.

      Stormworks: store.steampowered.com/app/573090/Stormworks_Build_and_Rescue/ They made some changes to air pressure a few months ago to allow a space travel DLC, and it broke a bunch of things, flooding being one of them. They have been slowly fixing things, but problems persist. The obvious issue for me is that if the ship is damaged to let water in, it should also let air out, but for whatever reason that doesn't seem to work.

      Yeah, I modified the default cargo ship, painted it and added a couple deck guns and anti aircraft guns. There is also a cargo plane, Junkers Ju 52 and a Opel Maultier Halftrack supply truck. The recon plane was replaced by a FW 200 Condor.

      It is loosely based on the North Carolina class Battleship, kind of squished together to fit the standard build bay. It has battle cannon in both the primary and secondary turrets, just for the higher rate of fire. Probably make the argument it is more like a Des Moines-class heavy cruiser.

      @@outwhee1115 Sorry, not on the workshop, I need to do a bunch of documentation before I can post it, it is ridiculously complex. A lot of the logic is similar to my USS Johnston destroyer though, which is on the workshop. Battleships are supposed to be a challenge, but the main and secondary guns on all the large ships in my WW2 pack use radar for elevation, so chaff is your friend.

      Kinda. The Improved Conquest Add-on linked in the description adds and replaces all the default vehicles. I made a vehicle pack that replaces all the ICM vehicles with WW2 era ones. There are a Schnellboot, Type 23 Torpedo Boat, Königsberg-class Light Cruiser, Deutschland class Heavy Cruiser, plus Scharnhorst and Bismark, plus some Tanks and aircraft.

    Hello, do you possibly have any photos from this specific event? I am trying to find photos of the two red Audi A4s from Stasis Engineering - they were testing the cars at Sears Point that weekend.

      Sorry, it is a league mod, so not publicly available. Most of the cars came from the the old SCC ALMS mod, but we balanced them for performance and in some cases changed the sounds. If you want a good prototype series out of the box, look for the Enduroracers endurance mod, It has most of the same cars, you can get it here: www.enduracers.com/rf1_es.html
