Welcome to Rylee's Gardening Adventures!
My goal in of this channel is to record my own adventures in gardening for years to come and inspire and inform those who watch along. I am a conventional gardener and use both synthetic and organic products, but I also aim to use as little pesticides if possible. My gardening philosophy is to always improve and try new things, whether varieties, methods, fertilizers, and more. I grow a plethora of different types of plants, and tomatoes are a huge highlight/favorite of mine to grow and I plan to grow as many indeterminant varieties I can. I have a sub-goal to push tomato gardening to the very limit most home gardeners can accomplish in terms of yield, quality, and experience.
Thank you for reading this, and stay tuned for more adventures, on Rylee's Gardening Adventures!

They are two different type of tomatoes. 100 is to eat raw or with cold salads. Juliet is more for roasting
Can you do a similar experiment with Xtreme Gardening Azos? With and against Mycos. You could be the first on YT to do it
No promises, but I might explore that. Thank you for the idea
Did you sterilize the one on the left? I wonder what the difference would be with the fungal innoculant without the fertilizer. Great science!
@jenn1ferschonberger Yes, all the soil for each group was sterilized with boiling water before being used
Try growing Batavian
How long were those seedlings growing before recording the video?
3 weeks of growing time
@@RyleesGA the Mycos + Fert plant looks great for 3 weeks. What size pot is that and how much bigger can it grow in that pot? I'm getting started and in the planning phase. It'd be great to get a point of reference.
@ThomasYT- For clarification, that 3 weeks after sprouting. That's a 4 inch pot, and at that point, you should move it to a 6-inch pot or its permanent planting space
can i send you a email with a pic my neighbor bought time tomato it weight 15oz, or do you know any that get on average 150z. thanks
Sure send it to: ryleesgadventures@gmail.com
Great review. I was going to grow this next year so thank you for sharing so I know what to expect. :)
I'm glad to help! My goal is to be someone gardeners can look up when curious about a specific variety. While mortgage lifters are popular, there's other varieties out there I covered, which are less known, but you should try.
Does the myko granular version fully break down as you water? Or it leaves a sediment in your soil even after a period of time?
@Trollsonn So it breaks down a little, but there will be some remnants as sediment. The beneficial fungus itself will be in the roots and soil, though
How much do you use of the Mykos for each plant?🌱
Mykos comes with a 2-sided scooper, I find it's best to use the small end for seedlings
How much of the mykos did you put in the pot?
Grew SS 100s this year, and I was surprised by the production, but also by how many split open. Even a light rain makes these things explode. Way worse than sungold, but not nearly as good. I'll stick to my sungolds from now on.
@Giggiyygoo You should check out my sunsugar video. It's a good alternative too
@@RyleesGA Yep, sun sugar is good, and they don't split, but they just don't have that fruity flavor like sungolds do.
I got a celebrity today, not the plus, have seeing this video I did the dam thing lol, i got one from lowes, i got a grow light in the garage also, i put some mater magic on it to , it has about 8 flowers on it , im freaking exctied lol, hopefully i get a few
Let me know how it turns out! I never grew the regular Celebrity, so I'm curious
@@RyleesGA its growing ,but it has flowers, it isn't produce any tomatoes yet, but id like to get that celebrity plus because you rated it as the best tasting
just checked it had 3 tomatoes little size, super excited
@@blblawhoo4338 let's gooo, I'm excited for you
So you used what looks like the worst soil a person could choose to grow a plant in??!! You coulda got better results just using a ground up shoe.
It was intentional to use this soil. It was heavily depleted soil that was reused for seasons and sterilized with boiling water. That was to reduce the odds of trace minerals/nutrients or diseases.
which tomato would be the best for least blossom end rot and least to cracking ? thanks
@blblawhoo4338 Blossom end rot depends on your soil, and likely, the 1st fruits of the season are more susceptible. That being said, Celebrity Plus usually has the most blemish free fruits.
how often do you water? 2x a day or 3x?
If it's 85-90F+° 1x a day, either early morning or late afternoon. If it's less than 85°, every other day. If it's a rainy or mild week (70s°), water as needed. I make sure to fully water the plant.
I love your videos and how descriptive you are. One of the best youtubers!
You know, if you like the plant vigor and health it would allow you to graft more sickly but great tasting varieties and actually even increase production
@xaviercruz4763 I like that idea. The heat resistantance on better tasting tomatoes would be amazing
@@RyleesGA you know Rylee, if you save your tomatoes at the beginning of freezing in a shelter as houseplants 🏡 next year they’ll produce faster and stronger. Have at it with the grafting in that period too and it’ll be easier on you the next season. Do you have any seeds or save from them and other vegetables 🌽?
@@xaviercruz4763 Alot of my tomatoes are hybrids so I don't really save the seeds. For Heirloom plants I do save the seeds, but if I have a large existing stockpile I don't bother. If I buy a fruit from a local grocer and it tastes good, I do collect the seeds from it for the future
Gritty texture is similar to mealy texture... there is nothing mealy or gritty about the epic Big Boy tomato....
@moochythecat3435 Much prefer Big Boy, but if you eat Bodacious with something, it would be fine
@@RyleesGA which out of better boy and big boy, i thought about big beef or beefsteak to try, i guess it all depends what is one looking for. 1 person might like something completely different. Ive learned alot from your videos, trying to write something down this weekend so i should have better results next year. your videos help alot of people out. NEVER STOP PUTTING VIDEOS OUT
@blblawhoo4338 I've grown them all, Better Boy is a classic solid pick just due to overall performance. Big Boy tastes better, but not as vigorous. Big Beef is great, I haven't posted that review vid yet. I'm glad you enjoy my videos, I have alot of tomatoes I have yet to upload I just need the time to edit them all. Thanks for your support!
Just had my first home grown mortgage lifter this morning. Firm, meaty, not juicy. Firm body with wonderful flavor. Weather and the amount of sun carries so much weight. Right now, in my garden, mortgage is ranked number 1, Big Boy number 2.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Big Boy is a good pick too
I'm growing my big boys in 15 gallon growbags and they just grew so big because I didn't prune them and started wilting in the 80° sun. I was watering them twice a day and they were still wilting and ended up with blossom end rot on some of them 😭
Yeah, growbags have a really hard time retaining water, I prefer plastic containers or terracotta in my growing zone, but I used growbags due to cost and convenience
I know this is from last year but thanks for making this video. Not many videos out there on the burning bush habanero and you did a great job of showcasing them. I was shocked when I saw them turning red. Aren't they supposed to be peach colored? Do they ripen even further to red?
They are supposed to be peach color, but if you let them ripen longer, they turn red and even hotter. Trust me, I've burned my mouth with these varieties so bad I don't really grow extreme peppers anymore 😅
The lettuce you called "Four Seasons" is actually named "Merveille Des Quatre Saisons", a very old (at least a couple of hundred years) French heirloom lettuce. People should use the French term searching for seed. Another of its great features is that it is VERY fast maturing (48 days). Given its resistance to both cold and heat, and great taste, it is just about the best "all around" lettuce anyone could grow.
@@tvideo1189 interesting fun fact, I wasn't aware at all. Thank you for sharing
Can you do a tomato taste test battle for Big Boy versus Rose de Berne?... I'm growing both of them in my 2024 garden and they are prolific... Both of them are highly rated for taste... Can Rose de Berne beat the Big Boy?
@moochythecat3435 Maybe for the 2025 season, I've already have my line up for this year. In the meantime look out for some upcoming taste test videos (I plan to release alot soon)
Just for the record, you only fry unripe green tomatoes, not ripened green tomatoes..
That Queen of the Night tomato looks poisonous... you were very brave to eat it...
Got to taste in the name of reviews
This guy has autism
does it really make you feel better? or just hate on somebody else, most likely you dont even know the guy. you dont even know what your talking about, go get a life
Are you using mykos on all your tomatoes?
@@bretthong6137 Yes, every single one
I got a Juliet hybird i got like 3 big clusters. How long after they turn red does it take? Im so excited legs go lol. I meant from turning red to full red
Are you going to grow watermelon this year?
@Grumbo- Sorry, only tomatoes and peppers
This is just like a root increase? Do you think this is why your tomatoes are better this year?
For sure, ever since I started using Mykos, it has improved plant quality and yield. Of course, I also did other things as mentioned in my Tomato Master Plan video, but it was an essential factor.
They use this for weed to make it grow quick lmao
It's used when cannabis plants are transplanted. Not for quick growth. Nutrients are used for growth.
Holy dude just talk in your normal voice
I understand some people may not appreciate my showcase voice, and I apologize if you don't like it, but I have more fun and enjoy making the videos doing it
You had mention you used fungi to add to it to speed it up?
@bretthong6137 In 2022 I did not use fungi yet, 2023 and 2024 I did. Check out my Mykos experiment video for more details
Did they grow faster?@@RyleesGA
I compared my store toamtoe to the better boy I think it's almost to the size I hope they turn red here I'm waiting forever lol
How long after there size will they be red? Thanks
@bretthong6137 It depends, just be patient and when it turns orange wait about 3 days checking if it's firm but has a little give
Wtf
I'm not sure but is some of those get sweeter when hit with first frost? We have a few plants that we have to wait for frost to reach the taste we are expecting?
I couldn't tell you as I couldn't recall if these were hit with frost as I grew them in the early spring. I have heard that frost does enhance flavor, so it could be a strategy
Sorry for all the messages. You think i should use dynamite mater magic i see it online should i get that to prevent end rot? I dont have that problem yet do you think it be worth geting and use this no instead of micrgrow because im giving calcium to prevent end rot? Thanks so much
@bretthong6137 I would encourage you to experiment with different products and strategies. You learn a lot and find out results that enhance you as a gardener. So go ahead and try it out
I got a 4 juliet hybird. 1 beef stake. 4 early girl
I got early girl tomato and cant wait think i planted to late
@bretthong6137 I wouldn't worry, the early maturity might make up for it
@@RyleesGA thanks for the reply. I got them for 1.99 for a 4 pack. I'm doing better this year with containers geting more sun
What kind of fertilizer do you use? I use Michale grow. Thanks
@@bretthong6137 I use miracle grow bloom booster, espoma Tomato/garden-tone, and Chick-n-poo.
@RyleesGA thanks. Also my dad got a special growing thing where you don't need tomato cages it has a support thing that comes with it I think he paid 35 dollars it's proably like the black bags you have but it's a wheels also. Let me know if interested. I can go back and see what it's called lol. I'm so excited my beef stake toamote has tomatoes hopefully I'll get those soon lol. You cut the suckers off or let them grow? I saw where single stem tomatoes is also bad and stresses the plant.
Love the update! Made the day for me. I’m now curious to try growing the beef master variety. I’ve been growing the “Better Boy!” for consecutive years and tried the Lemon Boy this year. So far so good.
Just picked up a few Cherry Punch for half price, nice healthy things with many clusters of fruit, am glad to know it's a good tasting variety! :)
@TRguy64 Glad to hear it! Hard to find plant but worth it
@@RyleesGA I'm gonna save seed, most tomatoes stay true to type. Oh, must have been frustrating of your neighbors spray drift, had they been spraying their lawn or what?
@TRguy64 It's those lawn companies they pay to have a green lawn. Sure, they have nice green grass, but it destroys crops
@@RyleesGAYes, a case of damned if you spray and damned if you don't! Some chemicals are worse than others, Curtail M is nasty stuff that stunts plants even upon its odor, Par III requires actual spray drift, same with RoundUp.
I just heard of this Bloom fertilizer. I have to try it. My plants are not as full as I'd like and the blooms on my beans are tiny. The little blooms could have resulted from heavy storms but I'm hoping to still get a good crop. I'll let you know 😊 ty
Highly recommended it, now that my tomato plants are mature I've been giving them bi-weekly applications to great positive effect
Whats the better container size for full development of large tomato plants 🌱?
I'd say 10 gallons works best for the size of plant you get. Of course you can go bigger but it would require more soil and space in the garden.
@@RyleesGA nice 👍 , so after 5 gallon we can still see improvements in the vigor of the plants 🌱
Must be the newer version? Doesn't look like the 1923 version I'm growing!
Honestly, it could be. The picture on the label is very much different than what it turned out to be
Nice cat.
Thanks!
Very nice
I want some pls.
Good job.
yoooo
Yoooooooo
I have both this year and wasn't paying attention to labeling because i thought one was supposed to be a fun sized tomato, and one a cherry. Oops! This review might help me tell them apart. Kudos to chaos gardening! 😆
