      VR was going to be a game changer. It was a real loss when they didn't put forth real development to make it shine. I seen some really awesome setups without VR though that make you feel like you are in the pilots seat with adaptive chair hydraulics, full flight controls, wrap around screens, surround sound, molded fiberglass interiors, some commanders went all out. I hope they get a contract with a VR developer so they can get that ball rolling again. I can't wear the headsets myself, but I know there is quite a community for it. I do however love the simulation setups. Those had some really next level designs I found, not just some seat, a real setup. I have a friend that lives quite a ways away that built one of those with a kit and some engineering with that full rig and I had a chance to hop in the pilots seat. It was pretty awesome. Expensive, but awesome. Chair tilts forwards and backwards, side to side with the controls, really next level. That and console development drop were two had to do for Elite they felt to recapture the development finances they lost with misdirection so they could catch up. We will see if after they catch up they get wider development I suppose. Time will tell.

      Been a bit of a technology break for sure. Been far away from usable internet services and haven't been in any seat but my car putting on miles and working on much needed physical body maintenance. This human has been neglecting his own "service engine" lights so to speak and down time for me isn't ever really downtime. After over 26yrs of non stop, no days off, and lack of body repair/recovery DRs orders on "fix this or you'll loose this" had me on other adventures. No worries. I'll be back in more relaxing positions with less projects once winter rolls back into full force. I had to get into the med review world as my shoulders need at this point some real bionic upgrading. Pain as I game and work was more than my horrific scoliosis and nerve damage. I had them rebuild my hands, tendons and all... now its my shoulder sockets, upper arm bones, shoulder muscles and tendons that have failed me. No fun gaming in that much pain, work already was destroying further my mentality on ignoring the pain any longer. Arms just weren't working well anymore.

      Thanks for tuning in and commenting. I appreciate your kind words. I take a different look at gaming in general as you might have noticed, I don't just press buttons. I'm really enjoying coming back to TH-cam from a long stretch on console gaming that took me out of the computer direct streaming setups. I try and bring some fresh content to the platform on games and subjects that I enjoy using my range of instructional, as well as entertainment, that I offer here on this channel. I put a bunch of videos into playlists for easy access for new and old viewers and am slowly expanding our range of games that I am taking a look at in depth.

    You seem like a guy with vast experience, so i hope you can answer an important question: is there a reason to aquiring riches in Odyssey beyond a certain point?, what i mean is, do i need to get rich beyond a couple of million to enjoy exploration and aquire the tech needed to persue my adventure, or is it a ''Grind for Greed'' mentality, where you waste time accumulating piles of wealth, that i'll never need. Just asking, not trying to be awkward, as im excited to get started?. Kudos

      Never fly without your rebuy, That is all you truly need. Just a few million past your rebuy cost is a nice buffer for spending money should an oops happen or something cool pops up. In the beginning accumulate to get a ship you want and enjoy to fly, load it out with the basics or specialization you enjoy or can always ask for loadouts that work really well based on what you want to do, not what someone says you should do. After that just the rebuy with a few million credits in case you want to module swap for something special or special purpose, or career change. I put some modules in storage for different career paths, I put enough for full rebuy cost of my highest price vessel at that time, and few million past that in case I find something cool. I flew around in the starter ship that I never paid for for a whole year without ever buying anything but repairs and 5 modules for it. Never did buy a ship that year, just modules. Explored all over the place. "Never fly without a rebuy" is the golden rule with many ways that it directly applies to the game and its mechanics.

      Just remember, you can't purchase parts outside of the bubble for ships with any ease. So before you depart buy 1 or 2 more of each part on your vessel and if you want, a duplicate of your vessel like an active rebuy on standby. Make sure to put a fuel scoop on any ships you leave behind as well before you depart which reduces cost of transfer later. That way parts can be transferred to you should something happen and you cannot repair or rebuy them were you are in the deep parts of the galaxy and the closest station does not support them. Chasing and sourcing parts outside the bubble, and ships for that matter, is non existent at best usually. Backup modules, ships with fuel scoops on them, a few million credits and off you go if you plan on not having to fly all the way back when parts wear out, or ship is beyond full repair despite your ability to use rebuy as not all parts can be rebought using rebuy if they do not carry parts or that ship.

      Once I'm in my ship, loaded out with the modules I enjoy, with modules for options for the ship I enjoy and a ship loaded with fuel scoop at port in case of emergencies I only care about rebuy and a few million extra. The rest is adventure and pilots logs, my journey as a commander, space credits are pointless in volume after you are in your ship. It's just space credits. I care more about my ship and my adventure then the bank account.

      The learning curve is quite easy to complete in a few hours the basics. On the main menu go through the tutorials as they are just the basics they are like a drivers instruction so to speak on how to before the test. Once you feel comfortable that you can do them smoothly, IE mapping your keys in a way that they don't feel like work or a search for them. Then start with the basics. Just begin at the beginning and know that we all started there. No rush. Actually taking your time and repeating processes over and over is the best method to experience all the great layers. You don't have to know or do all the pieces, just the ones that are for what you need or want to do in the game is how you narrow down and learn concepts in real time at your pace. Some like to read about how, some like to hear about how, and some like to hands on get a feel for how in learning processes. I'm here live I have no issue or resolve stopping and giving quick tutorials and even wouldn't mind doing some if the subs want that sort of thing for different elements of the game. There are a lot of things in motion that even long time players didn't know, or were added over time and videos go out of date in instruction if it was even that quite rapidly. I don't just play the game, I dive all the way in and around concepts and mechanics to get the full range for conversations and options for future development and develop ways to enjoy or extract the most out of ELITE for everyone at every level of entry or duration of its use. Have fun, that is the idea, it is a game and make sure to play in solo when you start so you don't have to deal with any toxic player bs that has made its way into the game over the years in volume. Setbacks on your own, not setbacks for someone else's enjoyment if you know what I mean. Ship to ship load out to load out they would always loose. That's why they prey on specific ships with specific modules and in specific locations in the game. o7 Commander.

    I seen in the comments a few questions about thoughts on modules geared specifically for Thargoid interaction. Though I do like the idea of I do not like the effectiveness nor design of Thargoid specific modularization. As at this point half of the ship nearly for some ships is pre-allocated out forcing specific modules into slots or you are mechanically penalized for not using which should never be a thing. I don't use pew pew lasers unless I'm mining for my ships, I prefer physical rounds very direct and flight maneuvers and skill / thought capacity. As far as other comments that seemed to be directed towards player exploitation of the gamespace of Elite Dangerous trying to bring real world conflict into the game space that does not have that conflict present in reflection. Of which actions by players like that I heavily frown on and down right ignore directly or reverse if it works against me in the space in ways those factions have no idea the space works at range. Though Frontier has at range already created limited solutions and direct in game actions on that sort of player activity of exploitation, it has not fully addressed its player to player activity, or player bypassing or exploiting Stellar Forges limitations of response to that sort of activity. We will be addressing that conversation at full range when we take a look at Crime and Punishment in future streams. I will also be going into detail on Thargoids once again (much like our conversations before and ongoing during livestreams) before we then shift gears into Guardians and the long wait for the development of that story space. Thargoid current downfall should not be a thing and because of it I only dealt with it briefly but not because of Thargoids. I was only there to handle toxic player mentality players focused on story did not know were in their exploiting their distraction to use bullying mentality avoiding punishment or retaliation.       As far as Thargoids are concerned you can defeat Thargoids by many means, all of which I have explored creatively. Over the years new evolutions and in reality "I win" designs on Thargoid behalf created a isolation of Thargoid combat instead of inclusion of Thargoid combat into the lore and galactic landscape of Elite Dangerous. I would have and still do in game operate and create Thargoid interactions and response much differently in and at range to their idea of Thargoids within Elite Dangerous. I want them to be great, awesome, but they are just there currently. Room for improvement.

      After years of it being great, don't think "stop playing" is in those cards. Elite is great, It's Frontier who keeps taking away its greatness layer by layer. Saying nothing isn't an option. If they make mistakes we tell them, and I've spent plenty of time praising them and supporting them up to this point. Plenty of time on ways they can improve and things they can already do. They deserve one hot minute after all those hours of great from years prior, when they spent the last 6 weeks making mistakes upon mistakes. LEGACY is 90% untouched by those mistakes, so we still get our ELITE, just not in the ELITE they want to focus their efforts. Complaining is non productive, I wasn't complaining. I'm way past that. No, they got the firm talking to for sure and its those moments far after all the praise and support that I have given them over 40yrs, that they should pay close attention too. It takes alot to tilt that scale for me. They tossed it, so they get to hear it all. Found a ton of cool and awesome in LEGACY instead of live game, and never logged out of ELITE completely. I'm not giving up on ELITE, nor not expressing any level of its success or failure, and anything in between. I'm not the only creator that has been in ELITE for the long haul voicing their lack of productivity. There will be more unhappy conversations about their space in the future should it be relevant to conversations that they have set the bar lower than expected.

      There are plenty of videos on the channel where they get praise and support from my creative end of things here. ELITE playlist has them all organized by our start on PC. The ones from earlier are in storage from years back. It has had some development and directional changes over the years and I like to keep conversations relevant and content on pace with the current age.

      @@CONTINGENCY_sys - Perhaps I've misunderstood you - I respect your passion. I agree, Elite is great, albeit with flaws and yes, Frontier since launching Odyssey have a lot to answer for. The game in it's current state (at least for me), is very playable; much more so when compared to Odyssey's launch and whilst I'm thankful they've continued to optimize it to the state it's in, they've certainly taken their time with it. I've always had a lot of ideas which I've thought would help improve and optimize the game - some of which are inexpensive but alas, I suspect they will preserve the game and develop it to their liking, rather than listening to their loyal fan base. FWIW - I actually enjoy the new FSD (SCO) they introduced; it's a small but impactful change - examples of this include leaving planetary orbits quickly, evading interdiction, or supercruising to an asteroid belt for mining that's some distance away from the alpha star you hyperjump to. It provides a real life time saving, which is always useful for me, personally.

      I have a range of probable optimizations and possible daily progressions Frontier could have and can still do to "catch up" on lost time. While I'm all for moving faster in the game my speed is more in gravity planet side per say then outside among the orbits. Though they missed their own lore in there (video upcoming) and misunderstand gravity wells and their mechanics, the idea of canyon running and skimming a dust cloud behind me appeals to me far more then neutron highways. Instead of what they created, optional fuels and even neutron harnessing more efficient was already in the works with lore crossing hundreds of years. I always say they need to take a walk around their design with their eyes open.       Their drive boost tears the ship apart too much for me to ever use it. Neutron star scooping and even sling shotting across gravity wells moves my ship along outside planetary entry just fine. I'd prefer longer jump ranges and canyon running planet side speeds, alternative fuels, and longer ship engine boost cycles than the short bursts with all power in pips. The mechanics for that all and the lore already exists in the game. They just don't want us to explore the game too far. They don't want to develop past the 2 bubbles and bridge for whatever reason, not realizing stellar forge could handle all that and even move the powers around for them. A Las, we communicate to each other but in their space their ears, eyes, doors, and windows remained closed. At least for now. But our voices are growing.

    I'm guessing that your editor was named Jessica :), family is the best. I tried mouse control but after decades of stick and throttle , my first HOTUS was 1992, I just cant stand having the computer calculate the maneuver's for me. Old dog and all.

      No actually my son gave it a go with Davinci editor. My wife just approved :) I'm all about non mouse and keyboard controls but the one I want is like 600$ right now so alas its mouse and keyboard for now. I was full on joystick back in the day. I'm old so I agree. Didn't really enjoy mouse controls since computers have been out wired or not. Been eyeing up that WARTHOG.

      Mouse and keyboard with even the best is still not as smooth or as fast and responsive as it could be on alternative full on controllers. Same goes for driving sims. You can only do so much without.

      I think the first one I used was from KRAFT, and not the cheese company brand. Then I had a microsoft exclusive one and then I was strictly using console analog style for sims until I stepped back into pc gaming again last few years. Long road tech has traveled.

    I have an alliance chieftain - any idea of what a good build would be for combat or what role is best for it as I love the ship just not sure what to do with it :)

      You can build out any ship to what you like to do out there in the galaxy. I don't ask what can be I ask what do you like to do in Elite? What would you see yourself doing if you were in your ship literally, as in, what interests you that the game has to offer. There are a ton of combinations and builds at base that can be loaded out to your liking. Chieftain has a bunch of slots to look at to specialize or build an all arounder jack of all. So what do you like most to do in Elite? That better guides the response of guidance.

      My pilots logs I have that the Chieftan line (constructed from diamondback lineup and keelback frames by Lakon Spaceways divison) were constructed by Alliance direct contract for Thargoid conflict specific. Mimic capable of Thargoid flight maneuvers allowing more time on target when conflicting ExoSpecies zones are saturated with other vessels. For combat ships I typically build them specific to the vessels flight ability without any weaponry or loadout. How well can it maintain itself in a space on target in its lightest form and maximum vulnerability. Then I slowly layer by layer add on "tank" to it until it can hold its own without weapons in and out of conflict without much fear of ship loss. Then I go through loadout 1 by 1 and try specific weapons at min and max loadouts, then try variable combinations. I also load ships to the type of targets I want to go after or often run into. Specific build. Strike ops if you will. I have a video coming up in the next few weeks where I show that process in real time and the technique to building yourself a ship that works best for you. As far as if I had a Chieftain and loaded it for my style of combat. I'll link a full spec sheet without engineering in the community tab later today. I'll dig mine from my pilots logs when I was running combat for Alliance back in the day on my other cmdr.

B shield booster D shield booster D shield booster - empty - 1 s mining laser (powered down until in use) 1 s missile rack 1 s missile rack 1 m multicannon 1 m multicannon 1 m multicannon (no large hardpoints) 6A power plant 6A thrusters 5A FSD 5D life support system 6A power distributor 4A sensors ( or 4D to save weight ) 6D hull reinforcement 5C biweave shield generator 4D module reinforcement 4D module reinforcement 4D hull reinforcement 4D hull reinforcement 2 srv (or optionally limpets) (or auto field unit for repairs) 2 synthesis refinery 1 cargo rack self sufficient independent pilot worked really well for me

      NP. I build out ships a bunch of different ways so that I can figure out which setup works best for each role in the game. I did like using that ship for transport of passengers. It was awesome at evac when loaded out. Long distance passenger missions was also really cool to see the stars and also make some CR next level without having to worry about running as the only option.

      Salome and the deep space mission where the Children of Raxxla began to take more shape ended with her demise (or at the very least off the main stage) and her replacement. The Children of Raxxla is a PCF ( player controlled faction ) Reclamation was the megaship/base of operations. Salome better known as galactic senator Kahina Tijaniloren, Had interests in the Foridine Rift. On mission to Beagle Point the players were revitalized by her return in a distant worlds event SANCTUARY HILL and she tasked them to establish listening posts along the borders of the Formadine Rift which they have yet to fully establish. Tied to other groups Loren's Legion, Phoenix Group, Federation Foreign Service, EDF and the replacement of Salome for the time being as a contact the individual known as Raan Corsen. Rebel alliance sort of explorer faction financed from what was mentioned as outside entities. Cmdr Harry Potter was the entity working against the space exploiting features outside of the space to commit crimes within the space and shift power in Stellar Forge. Since that point that entity has yet to appear, in either account. Not the first time and not the last time until proper measure of success and fail is placed upon player to player activity as it creates disruptions in crime and punishment in Elite Dangerous and creates "opportunities" to disrupt the space that is exploited by those working against the space not working within the space. No matter how much they want to pretend or pitch that they are. But that's their decision to play alternatively to the space. I prefer to play within and with it. I did mention this in a previous stream the information on Children of Raxxla. There are many other player factions also exploiting the space and it does nothing to expand or immerse the space, only destroy it. Some people just want to the game to end. The I win button by way of improper measure is not an I win. Their name is Exploiter not Commander IMO, and will always loose in the end. On that we will end there.

    A fun bit of lore the FSD uses a rare isolated material known as TANTALUM, a metals commodity, in the most current age FSD. Located in the TILIALA independent system that was once a source of high debate and response from a massively toxic player group who exploited the system, locking it down, and forcing FDEV to respond in game to resolve the issue. Now a series of GATEKEEPER MEGASHIPS are positioned around or near PERMIT LOCKED systems to ensure system and trade access to all players in the game with proper standing, ally status, and system unlock requirements. More on this later.
