Shot in 4k and zoomed way in as I was actually a very safe distance away so video quality is poor but was fun to watch it pass through.

Spent a lot of time. There is a kid love that place r I p aunt dorothy
Looks cool ! Do you still fly your drone?
Life kind of got in the way... now Periscope is gone, regulations got overwhelming to keep up with... so it still sits parked. My Pro 3 now seems like an old relic! Maybe someday soon I'll dust it off and see if it still flies. :-)
My new canon 90 D do the same , regardless what frame I use. I thought it might be my memory SD card not fast enough, chaned it but didn't help. Any idea how to fix it?
No clue, but maybe some others that see the question could answer. My camera is on a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone, so not a dslr.... but I can only say that moving it to a lesser fps rate fixed the issue on my drone. I hope you're able to fine the issue for your Canon!
Hello! We are a non-profit documentary film foundation interested in doing a story on the Canal, and would like to get in touch regarding the possibility of licensing your video, or possibly hiring you for some freelance footage of the Hood Canal area. If you have any interest, please send us a direct message. Thanks!
Thank you for writing! I'd be happy to talk and do what I can to help... I'll send you a dm on Facebook or feel free to write to me on my email at steve@icu2collectibles.com. Thanks again.
I don't think it was in the smoothness of panning. The digitization of each pixel for some reason isn't refreshing at precisely the same frequency and it messes with our eyes. I noticed this effect on some 70d Canon panning footage right away and was trying to figure out why this was an issue on many panning scenes on the 70d. I found the answer in relation to digital square wave forms in rendering music. The less uniform the frequency or regularity of the square wave, the more distortion or "jitters" or wonky panning results. One aspect of the issue could be not enough processor horsepower....can't keep up with the rendering, or in 24fps some other rendering or re-rendering of each pixel is occurring.
Some clever camera work on 70d cameras footages seem to avoid a very long slow panning sequence for this reason! Interesting! Something that can be worked around with clever timing and cutting to another frame...which is what you usually see! Lol.
They are amazing machines, but man what a pain in the butt when you're trying to get home from work and they shut that bridge down
It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't open it while the thing is still a mile out and then don't close the bridge and restore traffic till it's at least in Belfair. 🤣
steve_h7 so very very true
so good!
Thank you! And thanks for subscribing!
Good video tutorial! I see the VR icon on the top right, Just curious can we use FPV mode with Waypoints in Litchi? Thanks
Thanks for the kind words! I don't use FPV since I have the Headplay goggles but my understanding is yes, you can run a waypoint mission and click the icon to create the split VR screen and fly and control the gimbal with head movement. Be sure to have the settings correct on the waypoint mission to allow manual control of the gimbal. Here's a YT video showing how another pilot sets his up: th-cam.com/video/sdCgyD7Nyyo/w-d-xo.html
@steve_h7 Thanks for your response and sharing the info!
Beautiful video
Thanks!
Nice video! Would you be willing to give permission to use a couple 5-sec clips from this on a local Bainbridge Island non-profit project? (with credit given, of course)
Thanks Adrian! I think it should be fine but let me double check and be sure it's legal as I'm not Part 107 certified. I'm registered with the FAA but "commercial" work requires the Part 107 accreditation. You can email me at steve@icu2collectibles.com and we can talk more.
oh yeah mt. jupiter looking toward duckabush valley. great video.
That's the place! Thanks!
Very beautiful fight :) Thumbs up! :)
Thanks!
Should've went just a little further past the bridge at the end of the video around the other side of the bridge... my house is over on that side! 😊heehee!
I have to stay in sight of the transmitter and the point of land where the bridge transforms from land to water is kind of in the way... but I'll try to make a longer path next time and see if you can spot your property!
steve_h7 Bridgehaven neighborhood!
Needs some music Man!
Haha, I know! Actually these were live broadcasts on Periscope so this is just the HD recording of the flight. No editing on these... But thanks for watching!
steve_h7 Do you live in the area? I live just across the Hood Canal Bridge, and I work on Bainbridge Island! 😊
Yep, I live between Poulsbo and Kingston, but grew up and worked on Bainbridge for years before retiring a couple years ago... I'm always looking for good spots around the peninsula to fly!
steve_h7 Cool! I grew up down in Raincouver, I mean Vancouver! 😉 A year ago moved up here, and living with a view of the Hood Canal Bridge. Can't beat the GREAT Northwest!
In case you didn't see them there are some others that are edited clips as opposed to long flights... Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/2KXt5wmJ5OA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Steve. I really appreciate you doing this for us!
Happy to help!
This is an example of how my P3P reacts when recording at 4k/24fps. I was using Litchi to fly so I repeated the mission to be sure it wasn't just an abnormality in that one flight, but it clearly has the same issue, usually when panning and the subject is fairly close up. I change the frame rate to 30fps and a slightly lower resolution and have not had the problem since. Just fwiw...
not smooth
LOL that was my point. I should have said at the start that this is an example of how my P3P looked when using 24fps but I slowed it to 30fps at a 3840x2160 and have never had the problem again.
Thank you, from my whole heart. That was home for me, every inch of that beautiful video, had my favorite, most important experiences. | am back in Germany now...and I so missed my beach. I took so many pictures, from every season and time of day, but it is not the same. I look on Google Earth, and it is so disappointing. The other side of the boat launch tho, what I would not have given for just a peak, that spot, was everything to me. We never know sometimes, why we do the things we do, but please know...you just gave me a most beautiful gift, and my next selfless act, will be in your honor, it will matter in no way if I see the point of it, one thing I am finding is that sometimes we want to be kind, with all our hearts, and most times we don't think we ever helped at all. It is times like these, that I see we will never see how we really helped, we just felt called to create something wonderful, so we did... and that s what makes it...pure.
Thank you so much for your comments, you made my day! I fly a lot in that area as it is wide open and the chance I bother someone flying my noisy drone around is small, so it's a great place to fly. I'd love to get a view for you of the beach your looking to see but I'm not sure which it is. I take off the small park called Shine Tidelands State Park, which is on the west side of the Canal. Port Gamble is across the Canal from it... do you mean the beach on the same side of the Canal but on the south side of the bridge? I've never been down there but I think there's a path you can hike down to it. Let me know and I'll see if I can get some views for you! The weather now is terrible to fly in, a lot of rain and wind... but as soon as it clears off I'd be happy to see if I can find it and share! Thanks again, Steve
Thank you SO much. The beach area on the left (boat launch side) is the one place on Earth that is just home. I have spent many nights down there, after building a beautiful driftwood fortress, and glorious fire at low tide, and staying up through the night with my dogs and friends to watch the tide creep ever so slowly towards us. I restore ancient stone artifacts, and that beach...it is so filled with history and mystery. When the flood came into that area, it was vastly inhabited. When the bridge was built, there was such heartache, because hundreds of skeletons came up during dredging and building. Evidently, however, it was told to me that these remains were over 12,500 years old...as are the artifacts found, especially in the cliff wall. They are not primitive tools, they are something else. Radar also shows a pyramid shaped "mountain" under the water...it is a wonder to consider the possibilities that lie beneath the Puget Sound. Also noteworthy is the magnetic anomaly of the island. Several close friends were on the USS Jimmy Carter, I lived with them for a while in Keyport...it seems that the base location was chosen specifically for the magnetic properties of the area. At any rate, I am now back in Germany...and I miss it so, as I write, I am looking at a few of those artifacts in their glass case, and feeling very homesick, indeed.
A for effort Steve. Good job!
Thanks Carlos! I have a new appreciation for those that do these really well now! They make it look easy which it's not! :-)
Beautiful place Steve.
very nice flight Steve...great colors and scenery.
Thanks Carlos!!
beautiful mission Steve.
Thanks so much!
