The Quarry Gardener
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ส.ค. 2021
Welcome to The Quarry Gardener channel. My name is Sue and I live in rural Northumberland and my passion is gardening.
The garden consists of an old sandstone quarry which we are now developing from a blank space trying new ideas, growing plants from seed, planting bulbs, split and dividing perennials and using new varieties of plants from our local nursery and garden centre.
The Quarry supports a variety of native wildlife including Deer, Badger, Birds, Butterflies and Bees. We we will give you a glimpse into their natural habitat in our updates.
I have also brought my passion for interior design outside into the garden, to create outdoor displays using seasonal plants and recycled materials. Christmas, Autumn or Fall, are great times of the year to be creative both inside and outside of your home.
If you want to follow our progress, please subscribe to the channel and we would love to hear your comments, or questions you may have.

Decorating outside the front of the house for Christmas
Hello TH-cam gardeners, this is my first Christmas video for 2024.
Today I'm decorating outside the front entrance with free offcuts from my yearly Autumn hedge and shrub trimming. I'm spending as little as possible,
all the green material is from the garden and I'm utilizing what I have in my Christmas stash to create a pretty outdoor display, the theme this year is 'woodland'.
I'm sprucing up my existing wall basket by adding greens and real fruit and updating an old lantern for Christmas.
Hope you enjoy!

To date, I've added small stumps and old gnarled wood to create the effect of a stumpery. Today I move the project along further by adding ferns and other shade loving plants. Still a long way to go but I hope you enjoy the look back in time and the progress to date.

Those look very nice there- You should consider planting some there... Then you can just decorate them for the holidays.
Absolutely beautiful 🎄🩷
Greetings from Indiana USA, I am so happy you popped up today for me !! Your arrangements ae stunning love them all, and definitely gave me inspiration for a few lanterns I have. I look forward to seeing you share more of your gift of design! stay safe ! Paula
Wow.. so beautifully done ❤❤❤❤
太棒啦🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
So beautifully done! I love greenery and all the natural bits and bobs added. Hope it survived the storm!
Everything but the garland above the front door survived, that took off in the wind across the fields never to be seen again. I’m redoing it and hopefully it’s going to be a little bit more substantial this time, I hope 🤞. Thanks for watching and the lovely comments, very much appreciated 😊
Simply beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are so kind, thank you for watching and the lovely comment 🙏😊
Thank you so much for sharing, absolutely stunning! Would make a beautiful Christmas card for you. Merry Christmas from Sabula, Iowa USA
Hello and welcome from Northumberland, glad you enjoyed the content. Thanks for watching and the lovely comments, very much appreciated 🙏😊
Thank you ever so much for this video Sue. You have helped to brighten my heart a bit this sad Christmas. I just love all the beautiful greenery and natural decorations you have decorated your front door with. It must be so peaceful when lit at night. I hope you did not have any damage from the storm. Serendipity is wonderful isn’t it….just turn the cuttings over to discover a new look! ❤🇨🇦
Thank you so much Linda. Not too much damage from the storm, I’m remaking the garland above the front door, it was heavy and took off across the field never to be seen again. Hopefully this time I’ll make a better job of it. Thinking of you this Christmas ❤️
Oh this is absolutely stunning❤ I love this !!! You always make everything look so beautiful 😊
Thank you so much!! That’s a lovely thing to say, have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
I love your woodland themed Christmas decorations, especially the lantern! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! I’m very appreciative of all the lovely comments I’m receiving. Seasons greetings from Northumberland 🎄
You are simply wonderful! Your creativity and natural design are an inspiration! My porch pot is getting a redo tomorrow. I have plenty to forage from our property. Redwood, cedar, fir, and Oregon grape. Thank you Have a lovely holiday and Greetings from Oregon. (bought more native ferns for our stumpery today0 You are my inspiration.
Thank you so much for the lovely comments. Foraging, my favourite pastime apart from gardening of course. I’m looking forward to getting back down in the stumpery, I’ve lots of ideas as soon as the weather improves. It’s great to hear gardeners like yourself building a stumpery too, they are becoming increasingly popular. Seasons greetings from Northumberland 🎄
Everything looks so nice. I hope it survives the storm!
The garland above the front door was a casualty but I’m redoing it again, bigger and hopefully better this time. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Stunning ❤I have many of the same plants but mine are only in the ground for 2 years. I’m so excited. I hope mine are as beautiful
I hope so too! Thank you for watching and good luck with the plants 🙏😊
Everything came together beautifully! Love it all! 💫
Thank you, so glad you liked everything 🙏😊
Love everything especially the lantern ,bench band garland
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
Beautiful I love it all ! Looks so cozy and festive 💐
Thanks so much! 😊
I do love your videos you are so talented I’m going to try some winter pots ,might have to go foraging
Please do! I love nothing more than foraging around the area where I live, I’m forever bringing home interesting pieces of wood or stone to use in some display or other. Many thanks for the lovely comment, very much appreciated 🙏😊
Your designs are stunning (and I've screenshotted a couple of images to use next year).
Thank you, I’m delighted you think they are good enough to reproduce. You’ve made my day 🙏😊
OH WOW!! I was honestly mesmerized the whole time I was watching... 😍EVERY thing you did is just gorgeous! Porches in America or Canada have NOTHING on what you've done. Besides the always natural beauty of stone houses and cottages in Great Britain (which I've always adored and wanted to have!), you've gilded the lily with all of your beautiful, thoughtful and natural Christmas decorating! I can't wait to see the tour of how it all looks together! God bless you and thank you!!
Thank you so much!! I’ve always wanted some sort of covered porch area so when I watch other TH-cam videos and see all of the homes with them I’m very envious. The garland above the front door was unfortunately a casualty of the storm but I’m redoing it again and will include it in a tour of the garden decorations next time around. Thanks again for the lovely comments 🙏😊
You have an artistic touch! I love all the greenery against the stone on your house! Seasons greeting from north central Minnesota! 🌲
Hello from Northumberland. Many thanks for watching and your lovely comments, very much appreciated 🙏😊
Oh Sue, what a joy you are. "We" had coffe together, you and I, to watch the video. I'll tell you what I would like for Christmas................to live next door to you and your gardens. I hope you realize you are a gifted artist. Love from the US to your home. Thank you for sharling.
Thank you 🙏. It’s a joy for me too receiving wonderful comments like yours although it would have to be a pot of English tea the next time we watch TH-cam together 😊
Thank you
Thank you for watching, very much appreciated 😊
Everything is looking lovely - so clever to plant the large pot with future Christmas decorations in mind!
Thank you Lynn, decorating for Christmas in full swing now 😊
Inspiring stuff as im considering options for a shady area in my new garden 😊
Thank you, I find it so much easier gardening in shade. I’ve one small sunny spot in the whole garden and it’s the area I most struggle with, I’ve forever tinkering with it. Good luck with your new shade area.
❤
Thank you for watching, very much appreciated 🙏😊
The display turned out really sweet! I like the lights trailing down the obelisk, it looks more delicate. The fall foliage is everything, thanks for sharing!🤎💚🍁🍂
Spring was/is the season I most looked forward too but Autumn is slowly taking over as my favourite time of year. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
Your winter pots and lighted obelisks are lovely, thanks for sharing!
Glad you like them! Thank You for watching 🙏😊
I love the winter pots. So pretty. Adding the Christmas lights made the space look magical. Thanks for sharing another great video with us!
You are so welcome! I’m a definite convert to container gardening 😊
Shrubs in containers in my favorite thing! Thank you for sharing your garden with us.
You are so welcome, I love container gardening 🙏😊
Hello Sue nice to see you again. What an undertaking trimming all the hedges you have, that is a lot of work! Love the pots you made, and the lighted obelisks look like Christmas trees in the dark! Wonderful idea, that I may steal from you someday in the future. I won’t be decorating this year, it’s too soon, but maybe next year. In the meantime I can still enjoy and take inspiration from your videos. Thank you❤️🇨🇦
I have way too many hedges but mostly all are needed for either windbreaks or safety, they stop you toppling over the sides of the quarry. I am seriously considering however what I can remove as the yearly maintenance is becoming too much the older I get. I totally understand why you wouldn’t want any fuss this year or any Christmas, I can’t imagine how tough it must be but however you are feeling it is ok, day at a time ❤️
Thank you love them 🎉 look forward to more of your videos 🙌🥰 from the Land Down Under 🐨🦘🇦🇺
You are so welcome and Thank You! I’m trying to publish a weekly video whenever possible, weather permitting 🙏😊
You, my Dear, are blessed with such a beautiful space! Your style is pleasing to the eye 🤩 I love your choices in the pots. Looking forward to the next video, 🎄
Thank you so much, it is a very special place to me but I’m happy to share it via TH-cam. 🙏😊
@ and we are happy to be included 💕
I so enjoy your videos!
Thank you, that’s very much appreciated 🙏😊
I hope your channel continues to grow, because you really are a great gardener. I mean that sincerely. The Christmas containers are beautiful, along with the lighted obelisks, and I felt the weight of the shrub you put in at the beginning, ha! (I used to work at a garden center and moved a lot of heavy plants, trees and pots... ahhh memories!) God bless and thank you.
Thank you for those kind words🙏. I don’t have a great plan as far as the channel is concerned, it’s just a bit of fun, I love to garden but equally I’m enjoying editing the gardening sequences and making videos. That shrub looks insignificant, tiny on camera but it was incredibly heavy and I’m pretty strong. My ideal job, working in a garden centre but at the end of the working week I would owe more money that I was earning. Thanks as always!
@@thequarrygardener5578 I have to laugh because that's exactly what happened; I practically owed more to the garden center than I was making! But a lovely, great job it was. Have a great week.
The leaves look so colourful at the moment. Love your Virginia Creeper Sue. Your lights look so pretty at the end of the video.
Thank you Wendy. I love autumn and wish I had more colourful trees, something I want to change in the future. I’m looking forward to adding more Christmas lights around the garden. You can never have enough Christmas lights, at least that’s what my husband keeps telling me, he’s very much more is more 😊
Fabulous.thank you for your super ideas.
You are so welcome! Thank YOU for watching and the lovely comment, much appreciated 🙏😊
Wow, this garden | farm is like a haven too big. i enjoy each and every section of it and its uniqueness .i love the bright opening of the video with so vibrant color .fall is beautiful. The boxus gonna be beautiful and grow wider ..lookin forward for more Christmas decor. The newly planted pots look stunning the obelisk decor activated Christmas mood
Hi Christinah, yes it’s a big old space for me to manage, too big now that I’m older but all the maintenance keeps me fit. I love to decorate for Christmas, I’m in planning mode now trying to decide what to do next, in between gathering leaves which are endless. Thanks for watching 🙏😊
So pretty arrangement ❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏😊
Missed the premier ❤❤im watching
Thank you 🙏❤️

Thanks for watching 🙏😊
The garden is always up to standard. I'm inspired ❤❤The obelisk arrangement look so beautiful
Thank you Christinah 🙏😊

You have created such a cozy garden retreat. I love the patio area. It is stunning. Thanks as always for sharing your garden with us. It is always hard to say goodbye to the garden season. At least for me. I am in LOVE with the heather in the basket. I am also going to look up the Fatsia x japonica 'Spiders Web'. That is a gorgeous foliage plant.
The paving on the patio has turned a putrid green and black from the constant wet weather, very slippy underfoot but we giggled when I removed the parasol from the table. We’ve used it as an umbrella this year to shelter from the rain rather than the sun, it’s been one of those years. The Fatsia is very pretty, I’m going to add it to one of the white borders in the spring, under guard so the deer can’t get to it 😊
@@thequarrygardener5578 I'm looking forward to your next video. Thanks for letting me know the deer enjoy the Fatsia. I hope to find some for my back garden which is luckily fenced in from the deer.
I love a good stumpery! ♥
It’s shaping up at long last. Thank for watching 🙏😊
While I love your modesty, I think you are an EXCELLENT floral designer. I can't even decide which potted arrangement I love best, because I love the simple small ones with the cyclamen or heath, but I also love the bigger arrangement with that AMAZING fastia Japonica, wow! Thank you for sharing, and God bless!
I’ve grown Fastia’s for years but I’ve not tried this variety before, it’s very pretty. I do like the results of a floral arrangement in a vase or a bucket, I just wish I had the patience to plan one and then execute it slowly rather than bish bash bosh which is my approach. Thank you as always for watching and sharing 🙏😊
Love what you've done with all the containers and your floral arrangement is stunning. I can imagine how pretty the urn with the obelisk is going to look with some lights. You've inspired me to do something similar. Thanks for another great video Sue. I appreciate that they don't just happen!
Thanks for that Wendy. It does slow you down videoing jobs you’re trying to get done quickly but what has surprised me is how much I enjoy the editing side of making the videos. It took some willpower not to string the lights around the obelisk now, but I’ll wait until nearer Christmas. It's great to hear you’re going to try something similar. I’ve several more obelisks I might use again this Christmas, it will be lit up like a runway in my back garden 😊
you are an amazing artist. I love getting up in the morning to look out at the gardens. What a glorious life we have!! And the joy on top is "we" did it !!!
Couldn’t agree more. I look forward to every day, becoming a full time gardener is the best job ever. We are having a glorious Autumn, lots of jobs to get through but enjoying each and everyone of them. Thank You for reminding me what a joy gardening is 🙏😊
Filmed beautifully.
Thank you for that, until TH-cam I’d never bothered with a camera or filmed a video before, it wasn’t my thing but I’m enjoying learning a new skill albeit a camera on an iPhone 🙏😊
I adore that color combo! Everything looks SO good, so full of life for the season we’re coming into 🍂 Love your ideas.
I must admit I’m keen to plant up containers for Christmas, but I resisted, at least until November. Don’t want to rush through Autumn as the weather has been glorious here in Northumberland for a couple of weeks, not often I can say that. Thanks for watching and the lovely comments! 🙏😊
Love the containers especially the wicker basket one.
Glad you like them! Thank you for watching and the lovely comment, much appreciated 🙏😊
