I was an avid user of Ableton since v7 but I left around v11 for S1. Their lack of innovation just bored me especially for the price you pay for every update. Ableton has way more plugins but mostly it’s just the same plugin with a slightly different setting. And I never liked how plasticy some of the Ableton plugins sound. S1 on the other habd seems to lack plugins but the ones that are there sound really nice and their modular config gui for inserts makes it easy to just build like everything. Side-chain compressing just the 400Hz band of the sides and then add reverb just to that? Yeah, go ahead. And you don’t need to churn out money for m4l to do that. Also it’s really easy to for example have your drum rack midi in the arranger and the individual drum channels in the mixer only. Explode drum tracks is also a must have imho. Same for the sends. I don’t need my sends in the arranger. So I set them to just show up in the mixer. On the other side I don’t need midi lanes in the mixer. S1 is so powerful and deep. Ableton stayed shallow for me until the end.

Abelton for me. Almosyt every other DAW I've tried has a cluttered UI and windows popping up for different things. Ableton is just clean and easy on the eye. It never gets cluttered.

Hi, great video. Thank you so much for sharing. I would like to ask a question in the hopes you can tell me what I can do to resolve this. I have a Mac mini with an I7 and 16 gigs of RAM running high Sierra. Any advice would be so greatly appreciated. I use Pro-Tools and Ableton Live. I’ve tried everything possible as far as getting low latency (low enough to track an artist in the booth). Im able to do this in ProTools even with a big session but not in Ableton! In Ableton even at a 64 Sample buffer, it still has latency. The only way Im able to comfortably is by only having 2 tracks, an instrumental & the vocal track which I’m recording while I have the artist in the booth. If I happen to have any crazy plug-ins or a minimal count of tracks in the session. It starts giving me crazy latency. Ive even tried “FREEZING TRACKS” again, any advice would be so greatly appreciated.

Very honest and detailed video, without getting too long. As a sound engineer, the simplicity yet effectiveness of Pro Tools are matched by nothing else. Especially when combing or generally dealing with multiple takes. I also believed that the quality of the included plugins is more important than the quantity. If you do A/B blind-tests, then Pro Tools 's plugins are the ones that mostly make it to the final mix. - Having said that, Avid 's economic policy over the last few years, with the (now expensive) annual subscription, having abandoned the chance to get a perpetual license, really sucks! I 've been using Pro Tools since version 8, and now currently using the last perpetual license I purchased. When I will no longer be able to use it, then I will be forced to switch DAW!

Yes please. That was my main issue with the system. having to run everything through the referenceID app. Or having the plugin on master. It’s def taking a minute to set all this up. At first they weren’t talking to each other so I opened ua connect again and had another UAD software update. I literally just updated. Idk what that’s about. But I’m hoping when this updates it’ll all work.

Put Ss on a separate track and adjust the volume

Compression often can bring out the sibilance in a vocal; so unless they're really subdued, you're gonna run DS after any compression that's doing more than 1-2db of GR to the HF range of your vox. Plosives aren't much of an issue in the same way, as they're usually too loud to start with and get compressed down. Sibilance is the opposite.

Can this work on uad arrow?

Sounds better without the de-esser. The de+esser gives her a lisp and contributes to unnaturality of sound, or deadening by 1000 plugins.

as many times as I've disabled SoundID to load on computer startup, it still starts up. Not sure how else to ONLY have it load with Console. Also, when it loads in Console, I do feel the need to check Console to make sure it is activated.

Hello, for this sonarworks program, do you need the sonarworks microphone or is it just software only and can work with my current monitors? I have the UAD Apollo Twin X, not the newest one.

i have seen a bench mark for DAW performance on the new m4 chips and studio one 7 seems to have a lot of performance issues which was a turn off. i was eyeing it for a while when it came out but am gona stick to my Ableton and cubase combo. The SSL was my favorite, I use mainly the Fabfilter DS and Soothe.

Quick question, After I've done this process, when I hear all the stems together, they are on different decibles than the project. Could you fix it for me? Appreciated man.

Also, it seems like the correction is only for the main monitors as I have alternative monitors, but there’s no correction for the alternative speakers. Am I wrong?

Does UAD add anything "special" apart from having it inside the interface ?? I mean is it the same using this than using the nornal SW plugin in my DAW???

Man i can't get mine to activate, it sends me in an endless loop of trying to activate in the app and activate in the browser. Activating trials is without issue though. Looking forward to get it going tho!

My go to FX Chain for Vocals: Input (→ Denoiser*) → Comp (→ Denoiser*) → EQ → De-Esser → Saturation → all the other fun stuff, like octavers, reverb, delay, slapback, pitch shifting, fancy vocoder shenanigans (which are all on Return Channels, cuz deng is it hard to do that on a single track without overheating any CPU). *The placement of the Denoiser highly depends on the sample I'm using and i wish you made a similar micro series on Denoiser plugins, cuz the heck are these even doing? Why does it sometimes need to be first in chain and sometimes just can't understand what noise even is if I don't bring up the noise floor with the makeup of the comp?? Is there an engineer who's willing to explain this to me??? 😫

Can this system run redundant with a back computer?

Cubase user here: Their trakpad funtionality only seems to be an issue on mac. To solve this I've used Better Touch tool which does way more than just trackpad wizardry but also window tiling and a bucbh of other things its cheap but a paid app. I recently discovered an open-source tool for this called Pinchbar made just for Cubase.

Great video, thanks for the thorough rundown of feature sets. I personally use both of these DAWs, and for different purposes that you touched on in the video - ABLETON for ideation, preset hunting w/MIDI parts, translating stems from peers and common fluency between musicians I might be working with - STUDIO ONE for getting down to work arranging/editing/mixing/mastering. The handling of audio editing, third party plug-ins, send/return routing and mixing/mastering within STUDIO ONE is simply more robust and functional compared to ABLETON, which I think is fantastic at capturing the flow of inspiration when it's striking and for it's creative possibilities in the studio and while performing.

Bitwig for me currently ive tried so many daws I own ableton 12.1 the look and clutter of abletons bult in instruments are not my favourite. I use both but im looking at every daw out there studio one and protools are the only ones i have ot tried yet.
