Is Solar Sovereign Going Out Of Business
The DIY solar forums are a buzz with questions about Solar Sovereign. Many people are claiming that they no longer can communicate with the company even after paying for equipment that has never been delivered. Some are even claiming that the company is attempting to scam customers and will only take phone calls from phone numbers that are not in their data base. We do not know if the company is going out of business but judging from their website it appears so... this video will explore why I think the company is about to go belly up.

My Solar Addiction Episode 1 Channel Introduction
I am still waiting on a refund from Solar Sovereign that was initiated by them over 10 business days ago. I have not been able to reach anyone and as of today when I emailed them, the email bounced back, and it says that email address does not exist. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company at this point.
I’d say they are gone. Their website doesn’t load anymore and their phone just goes to wait. I got an email saying they were refunding my purchase of a battery and 10 days later I did not get the refund so I contested the charge with my credit card.
Really enjoyed the breaking down of this unit. You do a great job of explaining your points, and always a joy to listen to!
I did a pre order on July 16th for delivery in mid August, waited til august 22 and contacted , said batteries just got in and would be delivered shortly. long story short, contacted them several times , they did up grade me to the version 2 eg4 , but did not receive until early October, but I did luckily get my order. Was getting concerned, but something is up with them. I heard they lost there deal they had with Signature Solar. All there EG4 items were off their site before I got my battery.
I ordered 18kpv and outdoor battery with them, after a month of nothing and about two weeks of multiple phone calls to see what’s going on and then trying to cancel the order and them saying “it will take a week for money to go back to your account” two more weeks go by no responses. I called my credit card and got a refund that day. It was ridiculous. I ordered from Current Connected and NAZ solar and big orders was sent literally next day. Didn’t order from signature solar because they charge tax.
Pls check Lithi2-16 manual on Ruixu website, Ruixu Lithi2-16 has E- stop function ,details on page 32
Great video, thanks for posting. I'm building a single inverter system very soon, it will be my first so I'm watching a lot of videos and this was very helpful.
@@Engineerboy100 thanks for watching the video and commenting 👍🏻👍🏻
Really appreciate the time you took to break down all of this for everyone. Although there may be cheaper batteries on the market, I love how you explained that the EG4 All Weather Power Pro unit is the best battery on the market 💪🏻. We love how EG4 made this battery with rapid shut down built in as well as being EMP hardened. Strongly agree that all of the built in benefits of this battery are worth every bit of the cost. Very effective video that will be eye opening for many!
Super clean install! Love your setup in the garage. Especially everything being raised due to your location. The wiring along with the conduit are very clean. Really appreciate you walking the viewers on how you did this. Very knowledgeable information. Thank you for sharing!
David - The cost of LiIon batteries has fallen 80% over the last 3 years and is predicted to fall another 50% in the next 1-2 years. LFP batteries are even lower cost. The EV guys are buying batteries at $60/kWh. Yes they buy huge volumes - but the fact of the matter is the BYD and CATL and others are selling for $60/kWh. At the RE+ show in Anaheim California one of the LFP suppliers for a major hybrid inverter company admitted that they were selling batteries for $80/kWh. Now I know there are some electronics involved and we are not talking about raw batteries - but the retail cost that you are listing per kWh are ridiculously high. Of course - 3 years ago SolarEdge installers were asking for $690 /kWh. My point is that the solar companies are gouging the Customers. We should all be pushing manufactures (by showing them the actual data for the actual cost of LiIon and LFP batteries) to be close to the actual cost which is $60/kWh today and likely to be $30 in 1-2 years. I know everyone has to make a profit - but as I stated - at least one of the suppliers admitted to being able to sell their solution (wall mounted) for $80/kWh. Lets press everyone to get their by simply pointing out to the sellers that the actual cost is closer to $60/kWh.
You gotta make a follow up video where you discuss UL certifications. Some batteries have no certs, some ESS solutions have the full cert and some batteries just have the 9540a. You might want to touch on whether an inspector will require the complete ESS to be certified. If so, you can only use the EG4 setup and only a certain inverter to battery ratio. What was the inspection experience like for your jurisdiction? You didn’t mention anything specific about Ruixu and free shipping/no tax. That can make a big price difference compared to EG4. Battery Evo / Big Battery have some sort of ongoing drama. I believe there’s lawsuits involved with IP and even LG has some sort of involvement. Battery Evo was also accused of using used cell packs in their batteries. You might want to touch on that a little bit. I got a price directly from GSL for a 14kwh IP65 and I remember it being $2750, all in, direct from China. The cheapest solution would be building your own box using a kit and buying cells from Docan Power. There’s an empty battery box from Yixang that’s already put together and makes the process so much easier.
Thanks for watching and commenting… I do plan to do a follow up on the video mainly because I agree about UL listings should have been in the recapped at the end. This video is part three and I did mention how you would need UL9540 certification if you are grid tied and needed to be code compliant. In juggling several videos at once I forgot to add that to the recap in the final analysis. Shipping deals happen all the time even with signature Solar…. But you are right about Ruixu offering shipping deals. If you watch my intro to my channel I was able to negotiate shipping on the majority of my system chase so I know it makes a difference. But that will usually vary depending on when and where you purchase. But it is worth mentioning. On your GSL purchase… the price of $2750 all in from China was for a single battery? Just want to clarify because I will mention it in my addendum to this video. And if you build your own battery you’re definitely not gonna pass code… but true it would be cheapest. But with so many batteries coming out of China and such increased competition it’s getting to the point where it’s negligible. If you include a value for your time I’d argue that it’s not cheaper than a non UL certified cheap battery from China. Again thanks for your input 👍🏻👍🏻
@@mysolaraddiction Yea, the 14.3kwh GSL was $2786 delivered to Louisiana. They have a new 20kwh for $3335 delivered to Louisiana. I just informed the inspector in my parish that I was doubling the size of my array and adding batteries… I figured he was gonna tell me all kinds of restrictions. He then proceeds to tell me that I don’t need any permits or inspections since I’m going off grid.

What is your total # of panels ? bi-facial/micro inverter? I use more panels to fight the monsoon overcast cloudy afternoons. Your quality of work inspire me to clean up my early work. you are inspiring and educational thank you for sharing.
These systems might be EMP hardened, (technically, all inverters are EMP hardened), but they're NOT EMP-proof. It's impossible to fully protect EMP-sensitive electronics that has an opening for a fan without using a Faraday cage, and these low-cost, Chinese made systems are not enclosed in a Faraday cage. Besides, the solar modules attached to these systems would simply act as an antenna that would pass the high current from an EMP pulse straight through to this low-cost inverter, which would instantly damage it. Sounds like EG4 has fed you a line of B.S.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
You lost me in the first two minutes. No system can be completely protected against Lightning Strikes. EMP's Yes. depending on how strong it is. Lightning No.
No one said “completely protected”…. EMP hardened does not mean EMP proof. So based on your logic doing anything to protect your system is money wasted. Sol-Ark has been earning an extra $2000 per EMP hardened inverter and EMP shields whole business is based on protection. So I guess you don’t buy homeowners insurance either. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and thanks for sharing yours
@@mysolaraddiction Try re reading what I sad. Lightning NO. In most cases emp's yes. a good off grid solar system is pretty much emp proof. Some grid tie systems will also be emp proof if set up right, but there is not much of a chance that your solar setup would survive a lightning strike.

No offense to EG4 or David Neuman, but this still doesn't tell me much. I don't know what standard to which the equipment was tested. There is an old military EMP test standard from the early 1980s I think. There are far more powerful nuclear weapons making at least 10x more severe would be in order. Sorry it's been a while since I read all that so I don't remember the numbers and the details. -- However, knowing that they PASSED even the OLD test instead of NOT passing at all is still good. So thanks Mr. Neuman. Also, if you are up for more content you might do the deep dive on those tests for yourself and tell us all about it.
@@mrwayneright thanks for watching and commenting. I think a deeper dive is a good idea and I’ll put it on the production list 👍🏻👍🏻

@@atomictabasco1509 thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻👍🏻
Every time you make an addition to your system or an augmentation, are you modifying your interconnection agreement with Entergy?
@@SmallTownSolar no but if they can prove that the AC connection had changed without a certified electrician doing it the code police could make me do it all over again…. Better safe than sorry. It is not a change to the agreement as long as you still comply with agreed upon kilowatts sent back to grid.
@@mysolaraddiction long term, you think you’ll ever go off grid???
@@SmallTownSolar in my introduction video I talk about how most of the year except summer I run with grid as backup and don’t use any energy from the utility 85% of the time. I just built a giant pergola that is gonna to help me in the summer be more off than on grid. But eventually I’d like to be totally energy independent…. That’s the goal
@@mysolaraddiction what metrics are you using to figure out how many KW in panels and KWH in batteries you need to go completely off grid???
@@SmallTownSolar several…. 1. Load test to see what my max current draw would be worst case 2. Emporia Vue to see how much power each of my circuits use individually 3. Sol-Ark has a system sizing tool that is very helpful www.sol-ark.com/resources/sizing-tools-calculators/battery-inverter-sizing-tool/ And label sizing tool www.sol-ark.com/resources/sizing-tools-calculators/solar-panel-sizing-tool/ 4. And even with all of that you end up with a starting point and you end up tweaking the system with real life data. Or if you have unlimited funds and unlimited space on your property you can just over size everything and then deal with excess after you see how much you have oversized your system But most people are doing what I said before that… tweaking after an initial install but plan for expansion
Starting a large air compressor would be similar to the house starting a large inrush ac compressor.

Thanks for watching and commenting but as I stated in the video that was fixed right after the video was taken.
I don't know why anyone cares about EMP's if Nukes are being used you want to be vaporized.
Thanks for watching and replying but not all EMP''s are caused by nuke going off.. Solar flares and lightning strikes can cause EMP's as well. I mentioned in two of my videos that I'm not sure I would want to be around any way if we have nuclear war. Also "EMP hardened" is not "EMP Proof" and I never said "EMP Proof". Not that you're the one who said that but as you can see from some of the replies that's what people thinking.
I’m taking delivery this week for the 18k, power pro battery and chargeverter , I have been looking into emp shield but your saying it’s not needed ? Is this what I’m understanding, if it is , that’s great news but I’m just making sure?
As I stated in the video you would still need to protect your PV arrays in some other way.... either EMP Shields or MIdnite Solar make devices for this purpose. You would also probably want to add something to your home panel. But Inverter and battery are the things that were tested.
@@mysolaraddiction Thank you, I’ll look into it, any info on how to protect pv or where to start looking? Thanks again.
You will never know until it happens then it's too late
Thanks for watching and replying.... So your answer is do nothing to protect your system? So you don't buy home owners insurance hoping that you never need it? And the news here is that you don't have to pay an additional $2000 for an inverter that is EMP hardened (not EMP poof... no one said that), or a additional $1000 per battery for the same EMP hardening.
WOWSER - Thanks for POINTING this out !!! I am quite happy with my SIX (6) EG4-LL 48-volt Rack-Mount batteries is this EG4-LL EMP hardening effective on both my 3 X EG4-LL (series-1) Batteries as well as on my EG4-LL (series-2) Rack Mount Batteries ??? up until now = I beLIEved the only difference was the FIRE-SUPPRESSION Packs in the SERIES-2 batteries ... PLEASE Advise Thanks again COOP the WiSeNhEiMeR from Richmond, INDIANA ...
There is confusion about the EG4 batteries and I understand why.... if you have the same batteries that I have which is the EG4 LLV2's with the touch screen that was the predecessor to the LLS battery and looks the same the answer is yes it's included in the EMP test. The new battery that just came out without the touch screen is not included.
Hi MSA. I don't know much about pools. Do most pool pumps have to run continuously? If yes, or no, I still had a brainstorming idea. If you rig a manual switch for the pump, you could rig some panels with microinverters tide in between the switch and the pump... as long as your panels/inverters are rated a little less than the pump's consumption. This way it won't back feed when pump is switched on. But, during daylight hours, you could really cut down the amount of grid use to the pump. And, it will free up your portable power station for other uses.
You need to run the pump at least 8-12 hours a day to keep things from growing in the pool. Thanks for watching and commenting but I just added more solar panels via a large pergola I built and I’ll just run on sun or batteries at night.
LOVE IT! Just a heads up, if you are making extended electric runs from your breaker box side, even shunt to ground of overvoltage pulse, if shunted in less than 2ns at source, is effective for about 250' of code compliant wiring (due to resistance of the wire). I looked over Element's test results. 20ns to 900+ns doesn't react fast enough within even 100' of wiring (although, the Eg4 systems should protect itself). However, an easy solution is to use EMP Shield's RV-plugin-portable at the end of a 120V phase's run, within 250' of the breaker box. Plug one into a zone on each phase leg, in the extended areas. EMP Shield's surge protectors were tested by Keystone Compliance with 40 repeated EMP (E1, E2, and E3) tests at 50KVM, then another 40 repeated tests at 90KVM (with no degradation of product). And it can handle a line surge up to 228KA. It's reaction time is about 1ns to 1.3ns, and resets in about .8ns after voltage is shunted away. So, if you want full peace of mind in protection from EMP/CME, it's great to double up. And, EMP Shield's products will still protect without power. The relay is powered by the overvoltage pulse, on every one of their products. The indicator lights are just to ensure correct installation. And... their products are for retrofit, so you can still protect non-hardened system. They make 37 different models to protect vehicles, home/business, and wind/solar/generator electric generation systems on every point of DC / AC parts to the system. I love redundancy.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Like I mentioned in the video even with this news you would still need to protect your PV arrays and your house. EMP Shield definitely make products for this purpose. Midnite Solar also makes PV protection at a reasonable price. I like you like redundancy 👍🏻👍🏻
I suspect they would give it a warranty for EMP attack even if they had no intention of honoring it; Because if the United States had an EMP attack all businesses including the plant where these are made would be all down and most of the population would die over a period of a few months... Having said that no warranty of any kind with any product or any business would be able to honor any warranty anyway. I think they are counting on that.

I feel your pain 👍🏻👍🏻
Energy security requires protection against multiple threats. Ensure EMP protection is robust with full spectrum of certifications and with US based monitoring and control.
Yes I’m familiar with Endure energy. Good equipment but the price almost double per kWh. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻👍🏻
Appreciate you sharing the gospel on the EMP hardening! We love that EG4 does there tests right here in the USA, as well as the fact that the price isn't being affected! Appreciate the graphics and humor as I found this information as wonderful to share. Can't wait to see the upcoming comparison videos. Awesome work, David. Keep it up!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🏻👍🏻
This may be new to EG4 but it is not new to the industry by any stretch. Many other companies have already been doing this.
The only other 48v Hybrid on the market claims to be EMP hardened is the Sol-Ark 15K. If you know of another please let me know. As for 48v LiFePO4 batteries that are EMP hardened I know EndureEnergy has a 100AH battery that is EMP hardened and cost twice as much as the EG4 LLS 100AH battery. I think Rubix has a new EMP hardened battery but I don’t think we can say “many”. One reason this is a big deal is so many of the three products that were announced to have passed the EMP & lightning test had so many in the market before the announcement.
Does this include the indoor eg4 wall battery
@@popstream4972 sorry but no it wasn’t tested yet. I think it in the plans for the future
Having the right fusing and surge protection on most any system can make them hardened but no system will ever be completely EMP surge proof.. My gear is in the basement underground and has 4 separate surge protectors and ceramic spike protectors at every fuse that go to ground.. I pray we never have to test this out in real life.. They say the solar panels will survive but my guess is the diodes and or mosfets in the panels bridging will not survive.. So it would be a good idea to buy a bag of those if you are prepping for oh - sh*t day..
Thanks for watching and commenting. I do understand that more protection for the array and your home is required but the fact that I already own these batteries and a 18Kpv inverter it was sweet news to my ears. Stay safe my solar friend 👍🏻👍🏻
Good to hear!
Does EG4 provide warranty coverage for a system that has been hit by lightning, similar to the coverage provided by Sol-Ark for EMP inverters?
I don’t know that Sol-Ark provides warranty coverage…. I know EMP Shield overs coverage on the different EMP devices that could be added to any inverter, home or car. I looked on their website before replying and didn’t see anything. If this is true please provide a link.
It’s in their warranty policy at the end of every manual.
I will be hooking my EG4 chargeverter directly to my x6 rack Eg4s by passing Sol-Ark completely. Same boat as i need to add more solar panels as my system is 11.7 PV. My panal/pv installer advised if i add more PV that it could affect gridtie agreement with Duke energy and push me to a different tier which they then charge a reoccurring monthly fee. Painful! Dealing with energy companies and their strangle hold on power and us.
How do you have current CTs hooked up to monitor grid power. I have been in a conundrum as i have x 2 external 150 amp box main breaker boxes so assume i need 4 Cts.
The CT’s should be installed where L1 & L2 comes out of your meter. As close to that point as possible and the arrows on the meter need to ping to the meter nit the inverter
