Easy 5.1 ARC/EARC CEC surround sound install and no remote switching to standard tv speakers
In this video I describe how to connect your 5.1 surround sound system using the better ARC return channel and using CEC settings to automatically turn on the receiver. I also included a method to get back to regular TV speakers without having to go through a complicated button pushing mess that confuses guests and any other non-tech person in your home. In fact you never need to touch your receivers controls or remote again once you finish setting this up.

    Some people have pointed out that the diagonal in the gate is the wrong way that is it should be from the top edge of gate to the bottom hinge side. They are correct. This is the tension vs compression diagonal. To explain wood works better under compression that is its better to have a 2x4 under a beam versus supporting it from above. there is an anti sag kit that is a long bolt this of course can only be used in tension so would go the direction of my diagonal as a long bolt wire has no compression strength So if it weren't for the skin of this fence making it a solid object it would only be the thick long multiple screws on my diagonal acting similar to an antisag kit that would keep it from sagging. I do feel the sides have become a skin which more then makes up for the reversed diagonal. The thick 3/4x5.5x6 foot redwood double screwed and overlapping side to side make it effectively like a door skin or plywood skin on a sheer wall or even a roof truss (some don't use diagonals just a plywood skin) all of these examples dont employ diagonals due the strength of the skin becoming a box beam (even the thin 1/8 inch hollow core door replaces an inside diagonal) and effectively make them a solid object like the box beam or very close to it. So here it doesn't really matter but it should have been reversed and im glad its pointed out so thanks.

    I remember years ago when I cut it last time I used the grinder with the metal cutting blade and that would be the reason why the other cut was ragged. It's just too aggressive. This time I decided to cut using a knife as the manufacturer recommends. They actually say you can snap it after one good cut. I did try the single cut and snap to get rid of my waste on the old one and it worked perfectly fine but multiple cuts only took a minute longer and was perfect and smooth with no chance of breakage. With so many fail at the snap method its probably better to use the multiple cut method I demonstrated.

    Perfect. I've watched several others who used the same slides as you but bottom mounted them. I was wondering about how that would hold up. I like your mount better

    • @johnhilbrands3274
      @johnhilbrands3274 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks most slides only have a intended mount direction so don't put a weight ratting when mounted in a non approved way. I did find one that had a weight of 25% when mounted flat so I would assume a 100 lb rating decreases to 25 when mounted flat. since you should not max out weight as placing heavy things bounces I would try to keep it at 75% of slide so a 100 lb weight on its side would be 18 lb or about the weight of the drawer and about 5 lb of load. Not a very good idea for a drawer for pans perhaps a spice rack I hope thats all they were using it for..

    • @johnhilbrands3274

      I think thats a personal decision. This one is maximized to build fast and look cute and there arent really any comparables out there. I wasted alot of time trying to be perfect and the feet actually took the most time, a stand sander to round the edges and a way to hold multiples feet at a time against the sander would really have saved time. So you could get it down to 20 minutes and 15.00 to build I took about an hour and wasted some so an hour and 20 in costs for me. I would want 50.00 for an hours work. I would need 70.00 so it would be a hard sell I do know that every one loved theirs and still makes comments to me how useful it is its just hard to impress that on someone before they have used it.

    Thank you so much for posting this video, John. So very helpful. We had an Avante trim kit from 1995 (pull/push to turn on (i.e., pressure control) and twist for temp control). Our faceplate was round (not oval) with a single screw in the center to hold the round jewel-like plastic knob in place. We upgraded to the Weller, as well. We also replaced the cartridge because it was very difficult to turn on/off the water. If anyone reading has the same, we confirmed with Price Pfister that we didn’t need the retrofit kit - the metal sleeve screwed on easily onto the old inner metal threaded (retaining) ring and it kept the new faceplate in place. We did notice the handle wasn’t super solid after we screwed it on (tightly), it wobbled a tiny bit - likely due to the valve being set shallow so the handle cannot sit flush with the face plate. Also, we needed the plastic part inside the spout - that just slides on to the unthreaded (straight) copper pipe coming out of the wall. The Weller kit looks and functions so much better. (We got the Tuscan Bronze finish - really nice and on the plus side our kit purchased from Amazon had symbols for hot and cold.) Note that we opened a case with Price Pfister and attached a photo of our old trim kit before starting the project. They were super helpful and guided us through what we needed. They said we only had three options if we didn’t want to change the valve: Weller, Pfirst Series and Pfirst Modern. And the cartridge for the our valve (0X9) is model #974-292. Thanks again and good luck to others.

This solved a lot of issues with voice sync and trying to add clips which then needs a voice over. So it shows the work and a full descriptive at the same time let me know what you think.

    I thought this was a good video to reference for the fence I built. Then he gets to his gate, and it was at this point he lost all credibility to me. The diagonal support brace on the gate is backwards. It should always be from the bottom of the hinge side to the top side of the latch side. Else it doesn't do jack diddly.

It is a good idea to bring at least a bucket just in case. Also know that you should leave no trace while camping and that includes a puddle of goo so resist the idea of treating like a home or RV sink using paper towels to wipe out plates first should help but if you know its contaminated carry the bucket to a drain even if its not required.
