very interesting stuff about the midi capabilities! i wonder though if it's also possible to control the swell shutters and wind pedals via midi, you could create very virtuosic control over the sound and dynamics

Such a cool church! I love how the video occasionally cuts to the beautiful vegetables. If those came out of my garden I would absolutely start singing "Hallelujah". I love that song and it was well played by Erland Hilden. I don't speak Swedish but it was still interesting to watch. It was very peaceful ceremony to watch and the music was fantastic.

I like how the Pedal 16 makes the camera shake :)

Is there some reason why in "presenting" this organ you chose not to crank it up and play something, and you chose not to let us see the case? Do you understand how dull it is to hear all those individual stops and never fully HEAR or SEE the organ?

It would be very interesting if anyone in the know could share some details on how this organ could survive so long. Why was it not replaced or heavily rebuilt as many other organs?

Jag blir överlycklig av dessa insiktsfulla klipp på TH-cam. Jag är född på en orgelläktare - eller snarare: tillbringade en stor del av min barndom där eftersom min far var organist (och jag själv fick rycka in om så krävdes). Att följa dessa TH-camklipp är pur lycka, en andakt i sig.

Our ears don't lie, this temperament has something in it what equal temperament doesn't have. The perfect harmony on one hand, and the tension on the other hand. When applied in a way like the second music piece these tensions have a goal, hearing the dissonance resolving in the perfect third gives you a feeling of relieve every time it is played, I think there is no stronger resolution possible in music than this one.

Fascinating. I built a clavichord from a kit, based on an instrument from about 1690, which has a short octave - nobody used C#, D# or F# in the lowest octave in the music of the time, which avoided using keys with lots of sharps or flats because they used mean tone tuning, which sounds very sweet in simple keys and very sour in complicated keys. But this is the first time I've seen an instrument with broken octave. There must have been musicians at the time who wanted to add the missing notes, but were used to the advantages of the short octave and didn't want to do without them.

Interesting, a principal 16' is in the manual (even when its only from c), but the pedal has only a subbaß 16'. First I thought, it could be strange, when the deep sound on the manuals is stronger, than the pedal🤔 But it works surprisingly well

I'm not much of a musician (more of a physicist, so I understand the theory). However, I was surprised that the type of tuning makes such a difference on an organ. Unlike most instruments, pipe organs exhibit loads of non-harmonic overtones, which I would have expected would mask any beats due to imprecise ratios between 3rds or fifths. In contrast, I would expect such beats to be painfully obvious on instruments that only have harmonics.

In early music education we are taught that temperaments other than equal were inferior and people long couldn't find a good temperament. Another legend is that Bach wrote Wohltemperierte klavier to show how good was equal temperament. Nothing is more untrue. He just exploited different features of unequal temperaments (even if it is not meantone anymore in his times). Equal temperament is simply boring and colorless. People simply didn't like it back then, it didn't fit all the rhetorical figures of baroque, even if it was known way before it stuck for good. Even Mendelssohn and Brahms sounds better with slightly unequal temperament.

Nothing sounds like an Arp Schnitger Organ, but i doesnt forget Silbermann, Hillebrandt or Stellwagen Organ, they are great too.

On a more serious note, I appreciate the excellent demonstration which I can use to demonstrate this to my students.

A little thing to notice - only a keyboardist would scratch his head with his 4th finger 😂.

Sounds like you might have to relearn which keys are flat and sharp every time you go to a different split flat/sharp key instrument, especially if you go to a harpsichord (probably not going to be an organ unless you can find an Arciorgano) that has all flats/sharps split.

First time I have seen an organ other than the Arciorgano that has split flat/sharp keys, although I have heard of them. This one has split G♯/A♭ and D♯/E♭ keys on most manuals (unfortunately couldn't get a view of the pedalboard), but the lower manual also adds A♯/B♭, EXCEPT in the lowest half-octave, in which the 2 split flat/sharp keys are instead in the positions for F♯/G♭ and G♯/A♭ while the keyboard seems to have its lower end at E, which looks to me like a sign of a C/E short octave -- except that the other manuals do not have this feature in their lowest half-octaves. The Wikipedia article on the North German baroque organ in Örgryte Nya Kyrka lists most manuals as having compass CDEFGA-c(3), but lists the Ruckpositiv(*) as having compass Rückpositiv CDE-c3, so presumably the short octave on this one must be using the split flat/sharp keys for F♯/D and G♯/E (or maybe the reverse of each), while the other manuals use the non-split keys in these positions for D and E (leaving out the F♯ and G♯). The pedal compass is listed as C-d(1), so apparently it doesn't have a short octave. (*)This is listed third, but Ruckpositiv sounds like a lowest manual name, so it presumably refers to the lowest manual that would in most places (including other Wikipedia articles) be listed first among the manuals. Interestingly, this organ is a recent build (having been completed in 2000), having been designed by study of several different historic organs built by Arp Schnitger.

Enjoyed the performance very much. Though I do not think the sound was picked up by those two Neumann M150 microphones right in front of the ensemble, but by the internal microphones in the camera. Unfortunately that gave a bit too holistic sound. Also there is noise of a cooling fan audible, probably of the camera.
