Hello guys hope you are having a nice time here. You are right, learning the language is important: Italy is a country of almost 60 mln people with an ancient culture. Not an ex British colony or a tiny nation, therefore most of us simply don't need to speak english. And I hope this will continue. Who wants to interact with us here will better do it in 🇮🇹 . You can be hungry at any time of the day here, you'll find plenty of bars and take away. Restaurants offer a high quality lunch or dinner. So they are open at lunch/dinner time, when people, or at least Italian people, eat. In general they are family businesses so they can't be open 24h. It would be a waist of resources anyway as none of us would invite his friends or family to restaurant out of lunch/dinner times. This may differ in turistic locations as foreigners seem to have lunch or dinners all day long. Ciao😊

My Mom and her family learned English right away when they immigrated to the U.S. from Italy. They went into full assimilation when they arrived here so they could be a part of this huge melting pot here in America. If I could live in Italy, I would definitely learn Italian and assimilate into Italian culture. The gentleman here in this video from Peru should have no trouble learning Italian. Also, I'm certain the lovely lady from Kenya, in this video, will learn Italian quickly. It's a very expressive and musical language if you listen closely. I only know enough Italian to get by as a tourist but if I moved there, I would really concentrate on becoming proficient in Italian in order to assimilate to their culture. Don't worry if you don't speak Italian perfectly. Italian people almost always appreciate that a foreigner is trying, that's all. They may kindly correct your grammar or your pronunciation but I don't think they would shame a person trying to learn and speak the language. The French, on the other hand, would prefer one not attempt to speak French unless they speak it perfectly and with the appropriate dialect or accent depending on where one is in France! The French are just funny that way!!
