IPTS Piano Tuning Course with Feedback - Student Review
Listen to Andreas Eklund describe his experience with the IPTS Piano Tuning Video Course with Feedback and learning the Mark Cerisano Tuning System.

Andreas
0:00 Introduction
0:14 Andreas’ background
0:44 Andreas first saw the Mark Cerisano Tuning System in a video using double-string unison
1:05 Andreas became interested in piano tuning when he started playing more piano.
Why did Andreas sign up for the IPTS Video Course with Feedback?
2:01 “I learned as much as I could from your online articles and videos, and then I tried to tune a piano, and it was good, but it took me 20 hours over four days."
2:44 “Using the IPTS methods, I tuned my harpsichord better than ever!”
2:49 “Now I have tools to put the pitches where I want them to be.”
4:35 “Tuning with single strings is like tuning blindfolded.”
4:50 “I’m all in for double string unison.”
4:56 “I went with your course because of how your course describes how to tune the temperament with equal temperament and beat speed windows.”
5:27 “The other reason I signed up is that it was easy to navigate the website, and I liked the ear training exercises.”
5:38 “There is quite a lot of information on your websites, and your onboarding videos helped me know exactly what to do to start.”
What Did Andreas Learn From The Theory and Stability Courses?
6:00 “I already knew a lot about music theory, but the theory course helped me understand more about how piano tuners talk about theory.”
6:28 “Now, when I tune, I change my approach depending on the feedback I get from the piano."
6:44 “I have learned some fundamentals about stability, and now my tunings are much more stable.”
Andreas’ Experience With the Units
6:57 “The units were clear and easy to understand.”
7:15 Sometimes, the response rate was very, very fast, just going back and forth. When you were in Europe, I sent an email, and you told me you were in Europe on vacation, and that was fine.”
Did Andreas Mark His Own Unit Submissions Before Handing Them In?
7:42 Yes.
Mark: “Most people who do well in the courses mark their own submissions before handing them in. It’s easy to do and encouraged.”
Andreas’ Experience With the Unit Feedback
8:06 “The feedback was always helpful. I always learned something. The things you can not learn in a book.”
How Much Time Has Andreas Put Into the Training.
10:15 Andreas has been studying for about two months.
10:29 Five units completed in about six weeks is about one unit per week which is ideal.
How Many Hours Per Day Did Andres Spend On Tuning the Units?
10:39 Andreas spent a lot of time thinking about the procedures and steps of tuning the IPTS way.
11:00 He also has tuned three pianos so far.
How Much Time Does It Take To Make a Unit Submission?
12:01 “Half an hour. I’m trying to get faster because you told me to. LO.L”
Andreas’ Feeling About the Training
12:29 Andreas feels confident he will finish the course and get certified. I do as well.
12:35 “Joining IPTS was a good investment”
12:36 “It’s fun! I like it!
Have You Discussed IPTS With Anyone Else?
12:56 "My old colleague is interested in learning. He has tried to lay out the temperament the old fashioned way using fourths and fifths. I told him to join IPTS.”
13:13 IPTS has a 20% discount on the Piano Tuning Video Course with Feedback until Nov. 15, 2024.
13:22 Andreas’ Advice to People Wanting to Learn Piano Tuning

The Challenges and Power of the Mark Cerisano Tuning System
14:00 “It is possible to get 100%. It just takes time.”|
14:05 As a professional piano technician, being able to do a tuning in a short amount of time and still have a high quality results is invaluable. It means you can tune more pianos, work less, and make more money
Andreas on Bandpass Filters
15:22 “By using Ocenaudio as a tool to analyze what you’re doing, you are constantly refining the way you hear.”
The Reason for the Interview
15:46 “I want more people to know about the IPTS experience. Not a lot of people know about the school, and there are a lot of other video courses that give no feedback.”
15:59 “Some of them are just quizzes after watching a video, and people are coming to me not being able to tune a piano.”
16:15 “These other courses are a lot more money, and I’m told they are all flash and no substance.”
Andreas’ Last Question about Turnaround Time
16:39 “How much time do you need to give the feedback?”
16:46 Mark: “A week is fine. Ideally, I’d want to do it in a day.”
16:52 “If we can get more students signed up, we can afford a virtual assistant, and I could hire extra help to evaluate the videos faster, but right now, it’s only me.”

I have this piano. Living in Vancouver... I don't need it anymore. I think it needs a tune. How much should I sell it for? My father told me to take it to the trash can, but I can't because it's a piano with moving keys. It says sep 271893.
Advertise it it for $500 on FBM and Kijiji and Craigslist for two months. Then advertise it there for two months for free. Then you might want to google piano museum and donate it. Also, contact all the piano rebuilders in the area. They might want it. Don't forget all the family members, cousins, 2nd cousins etc., if this belonged to your grandparents.
Following your advice, I sent an email to the piano company. I would like to give this piano away for free to someone who values it.

This channel seems promising. I purchased an old used junker a couple years ago that likes to be re-tuned every few days so I safely fit into the "tunes piano as a hobby" group. It's a bit of a double edged sword, I would rather play my piano than tune it, but I guess I get to enjoy practical experience tuning one also.. What troubles me is I scoured YT in the weeks after buying it trying to learn the arcane mysteries of piano tuning and not one time did your channel ever get returned in the search results. Thanks YT algo! Better late than never I suppose.
Hey! Figuring out YT is more a mystery than piano tuning 😂 Now that I have upwards of 50,000 views on some of my videos, maybe that will change. Having to tune your piano every few days means you have poor stability. If you would like to know how to tune your piano so it stays in tune longer than a few days, email me at mark@HowToTunePianos.com Looking forward to hearing from you!

I tend to agree. But if you’re tuning a really good piano and can tune or properly work the tuning hammer I believe the EDT works great. Also you can make adjustments on the algorithm in the EDT to refine the program. Also you listen to the tuning as you tune and make adjustments.
It’s true. But what you are saying is that the ETD needs to be tweaked, and that can only be done by ear, which is exactly what I’m saying. The problem is that some people think ETDs do a better job than the human ear because, well just because. They are computers. We have to fight these misguided opinions.

This sequence is flawed. For a better sequence, research the Go A.P.E. system.
Test for pure P4 at 8:6 m6 = m3 If equal, we can make m6 = M17 (pure triple octave!) AND m3 = M17 (pure double octave plus fifth!) Not only that, when played together, the m3 and m6 make a minor chord that hums at the 8:6. You can hear the even beating of three notes playing.
Two benefits of the Go APE temperament sequence: 1) Three different sequences. Each one specifically designed to give the highest accuracy for the specific piano you are tuning. This is the medium sequence. 2) Opportunities to check the temperament before you are done and fix notes (checking them only one way - the way they were originally tuned. No more multiple checks needed.) before they are used to tune other notes. This is a progressive series of intervals based on chromatic M3’s. Where the M3 hasn’t been tuned, we use “surrogate M3’s”. That is, m3 or M6 that beats the same speed as the missing M3.

I appreciate your video Mark. I only tune by ear and have only every seen great results. Many clients tell me, 'after the other tuners were done (with ETD's), they couldn't tell if it was tuned or not. But now they could hear a big difference with the Aural tuning, and it sounded better than they've ever heard it.'
Aural is not better than ETD. Trained aural is better than “ETD only” every time.

very good, thanks. how can i tune my piano based on harmonics not just each note separately by tuner?
If this is something you want to learn you have to know you can't just read about it or watch videos. If you do that, the best you can hope for is a bad tuning that you do not know is bad. Any way will be a bad tuning. So, do you care if it is a bad tuning or are you happy just to improve the sound of your piano but still have it sound bad? I know this is an old video, but I'm expecting your answer to that perfect piano tuning "Is Not Possible". Nobody, anything around us in this material world is "Perfect".
Well, C-G is a perfect fifth, end of story. You need to study music theory and you'll understand why. Read my comment below as well.
Hi master, I know your extensive experience, sorry but nothing is "perfect" and the 5 or other sounds, mathematically are not possible. The material of the strings or parts of the piano are not perfect, so please let me know where is the perfection especially in the sound that is constantly in motion. You and many professionals in this beautiful carrier all the time use "Perfect" is possible to think that The "Perfect Tuning" is true but piano tuning could be "excellent", "super" but "Perfect" please.

@@markcerisano4268 Thank you master for your time, constantly in your videos ‘perfect 5, or 3 ‘ so my question is possible “ Perfect Piano Tuning”?”
@@franklinvargas5198 "Perfect" refers to the type of interval. It has nothing to do with the interval actually being perfect. For intervals tuned with no beats, we call them "pure". And yes, you are correct. Pitches fluctuate, beat rates change speed, nothing is perfect. But as tuners, our job is to give the impression of perfection which is attained when, as you say, we are able to produce tunings that are excellent or super. (Oh, and you do not need to call me master. I'm hardly one.)
@@franklinvargas5198 Oh and thirds are never perfect, they are major or minor. And I never said anything about a perfect tuning. This video is not even about tuning at all. It's just about the science of temperament.
Ok master, let me tell you I know music theory and math and phisic,
