    Vietnam War was fought because Harry Truman was a racist and felt the "little yellow people"needed the civilizing influence of Europeans. Namely the French. In his letter dated 28 February 1946, Ho Chi Minh asks the US President, Harry S. Truman, for US support in its struggle to gain independence for the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from the French who still had an overseas empire after WWII. Ho quoted two documents, the Atlantic Charter and the San Francisco Charter that said countries should have the right to their self determination. Harry turned down Ho. He then went to Stalin. A copy of the letter is available online, just copy and paste from 28 February to Truman and google it. Truman could have told de Gaulle that we would withhold rebuilding aid to France unless the got out of Vietnam. Look at the fact that it was Saudi's that attacked the US on 9/11/01. We supported a royal family, the Saud family for cheap oil. The US uses a disproportionate amount of energy for our population. We also are overfed for the most part. Our debt is unsupportable. Sooner or later this will end. Also Indian Rupee is plummeting this past week.

    I prep in two ways. The first is acquisition such as gathering supplies, skills, and social networking. The second is maintenance which includes rotating/replacing supplies, skill set advancement beyond the beginner level, and deepening relationships with other prepping folks. Some areas of my preps are in the maintenance phase; others are in the acquisition phase. The goal is to get all areas in the maintenance phase. This means prepping for me doesn’t actually end. There will always be something to do. I am weakest in the social networking domain. It is difficult to find trustworthy people with a similar passion for prepping. Thank you for posting! I enjoy your videos.

    I read your caption outloud and my husband chimed up " the day I die" . We feel as a prepper, it's a lifestyle choice. We have a working pantry, we rotate through the stocked food to keep it as fresh as possible. We don't buy mre's, we do have ready to eat item's , we also don't buy the seed bag's that are pre packaged. Noone knows your family, your diets, the way you do . I bought a photo box , and went to one of my favorite heirloom seed companies and I picked out what we'll grow and eat for the entire growing season(s) a few years ago, my husband wanted jalapeños I think, the seed I had was like 7 years old , I grew the most beautiful peppers from the old seed. With any form of food seed included just gotta remember the rules store in cool, dark and dry. With us , we are the ones they come to. If we hit a level where we gotta go, it would be a start over situation. We're just normal working people, like many we couldn't afford a secondary location but our place is the safest in our own network. We've been building relationships with neighbors and friends over years equals places to hunt and fish , we've planted fruit tree's, garden's. We just live a lifestyle that we are prepared and it has come in handy over years with unexpected medical situations, job loss .

    I wouldn't buy MRE's. I'd buy supplies to make a chicken coop and a goat shed long before that. Working good soil that hasn't been tilled in a long time is not easy. Weeds, grass and roots are terribly stubborn. Without a power tiller it takes hours to prepare a ten by ten bed that is mostly weed free. Recommendation, start your garden before you need to. Practice.

    • @amyschultz8058
      @amyschultz8058 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You're right on that. Many new gardener's start a garden in good soil and have good success that 1st year and don't understand what went wrong the 2nd year. The time to learn is now, not in an emergency. You hit the nail on this.

      @@twodrshomestead We would love to have chickens. However... We still leave home for a week at a time 4-6 times a year. We don't want to burden friends to take care of our animals that much. I'll bet you have a great compost pile that ages faster than mine. Hey, keep educating people. They need to hear this.

    I don't think you are ever done prepping. You use and replenish all the time if you have a working pantry. My parents who grew up in during the depression taught me it's a constant thing. You preserve what grows even if it's not regular types of food. With weed killers we've destroyed many food souses like Dandelion greens, Dock ,and lambs ear ect. My Mom canned Dandelion greens and you can drink the water they were cooked in like a tea.

    If done right there are long term, seasonal and daily things to do to prepare for winter. My wife and I as an example. To get this well set has taken us a while, over a decade. We have our little half acre with the large garden, 14 fruit trees, one nut tree, 20 berry bushes and a grape vine. It takes a while to do this, And even this year some are still growing not mature yet. And we have other skills we practice to get more self sufficient. But it has taken time, sacrifices and effort to get to this point. The garden started small. We lost our first apple tree and grape vine to a deer. We lost valuables in a small flood. But we haven't given up. And now, it is paying off, the fresh or home preserved foods, the other skills we've learned have lowered our cost of living and made us healthier. Long term. First step, years ago when we bought the place; we cut down trees that could fall on important things. Overhead wires, garage, house, fence. Insulated pretty well sealed home, windows, doors. Yup. backup electricity? Yup All the fuel tanks full? Yup. Backup heat supply? Yup Outdoor cooking available? Yup Metals besides lead, brass and steel? Yup This winter, Clothes, blankets, hats, scarves, and so on. Multiple of multiple. Dire emergency 3r back up electricity? Yup. Food? Sure. Water? Sand, pet friendly salt, extra windshield wash in vehicle. Snow shovels distributed. Ice scrapers, blankets, tow strap or chain, jumper cables,.... Today, all the laundry got caught up. Got out in the cold for a three mile walk with dog while wearing a pack. Started in on yesterday's fresh baked sourdough with homemade cherry jam. Spring chores to get ready for? Hand tools, shine them up, sharpen a few edges, sand handles and apply oil. Purchased some more sprouting trays and fiber pots.Have seeds, seed white potatoes, sweet potatoes. Can we go without making any purchase or having a delivery of anything at all including utilities for a week? Sure. A month? Not a problem. Longer than that? If we have any clue at all that things might be down for longer and we ration, yes, we can do that. Three months of rationing fuel and water, fetching water, we could do. I am out walking that dog year round. I wear out my EDC carry backpack every 1400 miles/18 months and to get it that far requires stitching. My wife jokes I could camp for a weekend any time of year with what's in that pack. A daily ruck is good exercise. We are out there when the wind chill is -40 to raining and 40 degrees, to heat index is over 100 . Sidearm included, the total carry is about 27 pounds. Believe me I didn't start our rucking 20 miles a week. It was another thing that started small.

    At some point the documentation I put on change notices at my last engineering job will be entered into an AI and it will use some of that information to make engineering decisions. At that point I will be intellectually immortal. The things I'm prepared for, well, like today, 90 minutes of clearing snow by hand followed by a mile and a half walk the dog to the post office and back while wearing a 25 pound pack. Someone asked me just today why I wear the pack. I said I'm practicing for the gasoline rationing. The guy stopped for a second to process it and said "that actually makes sense." Regarding these Russian hyper sonic missiles. ICBM's that is Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles travel at about Mach 14. Those are decades old technology. We have ground based interceptors for those. Second, Russian and Chinese tech is still second class. Finally the US does have mach 3 cruise missles with ground following capabilities. Also very hard to track and intercept. Regarding don't expect anyone to help you out. Three days ago, a neighbor with a plumbing business was telling me he hated working on his truck in his gravel driveway and he's got a brake job to do. I told him "My driveway is paved, just give me a day notice and you can work on you truck in my driveway, that's how things are supposed to be. Neighbors take care of each other". But maybe that's an Old School Midwest thing. If I have something my neighbor needs for a chore I let him borrow it. I've lent the generator, the axe, other hand tools. I've given fruit trees and berry bushes away. Another neighbor recently knocked on our door saying she had a bat in her house. My wife comforted her while I got the bat into a fishing net and let loose outside. Decades ago when a father of two girls told me he was a pervert for kids I helped the woman and children disappear off the face of the planet. That's how I ended up with great grandkids already. NYC is a sick place. But not all places are like that.

We have the standard thing's, sawyer, lifestraw, bottled, emergency water. We've been looking into a gravity fed filtration systems and there are so many on the market. Do yall have a recommendation? We have well water so don't have to worry about city treatment. We're just trying to prepare for a situation of no electricity I'd appreciate any input.

    Holy cow! Y'all are busy!! 1st the dog, so adorable. Little puff ball getting rubs just made me melt. Beautiful. My husband is a body man, so we are well versed in auto repair costs. Labor costs are crazy high on mechanics I drive a 2001 and I want to say his is 2000 and we definitely work on our own. Your year in review was amazing and yall got alot accomplished. You spoke about fruit tree's, we have a small orchard , we have red clay soil . I order all our fruit trees from stark bros. Climate is huge with fruit , you can most definitely grow fruit where you are , you just need to find the right variety. Here , in Virginia, we can grow peaches but we struggle with it yearly, late cold snaps get us almost yearly. Definitely keep trying though. With 2025, we're not changing our mind-set . Our world is crazy and unpredictable, Trump will take office but that only lasts 4 year's. Who knows whats to come. We hope for the best, prepare for the worst. I hope yall had a good Christmas and Happy New Year.
