Roman blind pockets (buckram)
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I will show you how I make my Roman blind pockets using buckram to reinforce them. Please note there is a slight error (which I have not been able to edit) where I say that I have cut the lining to 135cm wide, this is a mistake, it is cut to 113cm wide the same as finished Roman blind width.

    You didn't finish by doing the cutting. I always get a crooked cut with zig zag lines. My fabric is too large for the table. I will try and pull a thread for the length.

    Great video. I was wondering if you could mark the crease with a fade away pin so it would be easier to see while sewing?

    Hi! Can I do this on a normal sewing machine with zig zag? If not, do you have another suggestion please?

    • @gilllavers
      @gilllavers 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use a zig zag on a machine but it will probably not join both sides equally and one might stretch more than the other. Its tricky to get the tensions right under a sewing machine, plus you have to overlap to join instead of having both sides together 😉

    Hi Gill, I've just found your tutorials and like them very much. I have made curtains before, with mixed success. I am about to embark on another curtain project and want to li e them with interlining, which I have never done before. Do you have any tutorials that will guide me from the start?

    Hi Gill Really like your video on inserting buckram into the rod pockets on the blinds. Do you have a video on inserting eyelets and do you insert buckram at the heading? Where can I purchase the 2 inch buckram and your iron?

    You must be a pro! Such ease! Were your measurements in cms? Worried stiff! Bought 7 yrds of floral medium hvy fabric that is 54in wide w 27" vertical repeat and 27 " horizontal repeat, not sure what this means cuz first time doing this. But I want to use fabric to cover one side of an existing light weight king comforter (104in /92in) to get a new look. Don't want a duvet. Then I want to puff up some of the florals to create a dimensional look but can't figure it out. Any ideas or suggestions?

    • @gilllavers
      @gilllavers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would normally use SFT tape for bonded interlining. That way its not punctured by the needle 😉

  • @shoppingist

    Thanks so much you are easy to understand and come across very well. made most of my curtains but never with interlining. needs must and looking at the thickness of my interlining i felt there would be a better way of joining the several widths. May borrow a interlock machine and buy one once trying it. Thanks again. Joy

    I have also used this method on a woven tapestry fabric where there was no selvedge just loose threads and of course you can’t fold that type of fabric. Again it worked brilliantly. It has to perfect on Roman Blinds which is my business as you’re seeing the fabric flat but it is a joy to do now. Thank you Gill.

    Many thanks for taking the time to share your tips . I have just finished making some interlined curtains however I wish I had seen your videos sooner as your way seems to make a lot more sense . Trying to overlap keeping the tensions right and sewing a straight line down the middle of the interlining isn't easy for a beginner .Your way looks so much better. Also sounds like a great idea to lay interlining down first. I will definitely try this next time .

    Hi. This is a great video, and reassuring to see that this is how I make cushions, but I was interested to see that you don't appear to trim the corners off. I do this but often wonder whether it's worth the bother?

    • @gilllavers
      @gilllavers 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There shouldn’t be that much that you need to trim as its quite close. Keeping the corners helps to fill the pad at that spot 😉
