My 12 year old baseball player broke his distal pole. He received a cast with thumb for 4 weeks. X-ray shows he’s still not healed. We opted for a brace for the next 4 weeks. We’re trying everything from vit D/k2 and calcium to comfrey salve. It’s hard to watch him miss out. His brothers are playing baseball in college and I hope this injury doesn’t ruin his future. Sad baseball family here!

The best time of surgery is that it should be done immediately. In your case as 3 years post injury period. Need clinical assessment and radiographs of your hand than need to be decided which surgey would be better for you. Please consult any hand surgeon in your vicinity. Regards

i was born 1979 and i was one of only two of us in the whole of uk i believe with this . it has taken yrs before i started to be able to find the odd bits and pieces online. but to be honest ive never seen anyone until tonight as ive never really bothered looking again. as i was told there is supposed to be approx only 400 worldwide of us to have the syndrome or condition. but then tonight mum is new to youtube adn she has been shocked what you can find. adn i said you name anything unless its really rare and thats the only time i havent usually found stuff on youtube. i am not even sure fi they will have my condition of elbow prob on here. so my world has literally opened when i opened another video before this one to see someone looking back at me in a photo holding his hands and shoulder in the same way i always have. but ive never been able to see anyone else hold their hand in the same way. so of course i sat and cried. it felt like all the yrs ive felt no one else can understand what this is like. as ive never met or seen anyone else with it ive felt lnely at times. as people of course give you love adn sympathy but can never understand it. now the two videos this one and the other states that often it is painless in children . etc but this has not been the case with me. i often had to wear tubigrips bandages on my wrist the nearer to my teens. adn ive always had weeker arms to the others at school. in photos my left arm in particular always looks odd to other kids. adn i was often called spastic by the bullies becasue of how i carried plates on back of my hand etc. they always said my arms have been put on back to front. well now i know im not alone i have seen others . it seems i have a severe form of it as my ulna and radius is fused obviously for the elbow fusion. but the ulna and radius also cross adn seem to go thru each other. they are not striaght or just twisted. i have been told they wanna do a elbow replacement now but wont do it until im in my 80s due to not ever doing it before adn they dont wanna damage y arms worse than they are. but also they have said the bones becuase of how they are twisted and not sraighted but cross and go thru each other. the nerve ligaments and bones can get caught between the bones when i move. and eventually this may mean the boones where they touch will need strenthening with metal plates and screws to stop them breaking. but also the elbows both arms have always seemed to lock and then crack s loud people can hear it across the room. but i can soon freak people out if i get them to touch the elbow then it cracks out loud lol. sort of my party trick. but anyway. i have alot of severe pain have done right from being little sort of ten onwards. but they did sometimes hurt when little also. my dad has lovely warm hands and has often sat holding my wrist or arm . i had to take painkillers at secondary school becasue od y arm ad back problems. but i did manage to work as a senior carer for 11 yrs. but because in the end i needed to wear thick plactic then straps on the hard plastic splints i couldnt take them of to work. so it meant i wasnt safe for the patients i looked after as i had tried to go without the splints. but then i had other health probs took over and im now not able to work and disbaled. but its my elbow fusions that aare also the reason im unable to work.

Hello Emma, I have the same condition as you but it seems to me that I got pretty lucky. Only my left arm is affected and until now (I'm 22) I didn't experience severe pain. Two years ago I started working out and my left arm got a lot stronger, but still not as strong as my right arm. I also hate how my arm looks like in pictures and it is always the first thing I see. And yeah school wasn't always easy especially school-sports and no one without RS seems to understand me truly. I really hope your arms get better so that you don't have to experience so much pain.

@@7janick7 thanks for replying. i have been told my left arm will never regain strength or grip due to the nature of operations i have had to have. my right arm and left i have arthritis also in elbow and wrists and in some of my knuckles. i have fibromyalgia also which is a pain in itself. lol but i have been tld they want to do a total elbow replacement on eft arm. but they wont do this not until im at least in my 80s and then by then it woudl nt be worth doing it. i worked in care work so my nickname has always been smiler because i always tell myself on my depressed days that there is always someone worse of than myself. xxx

My son has recently been diagnosed with this condition, his is bilateral. He's only 5 and the paediatrician said in his 13 years of working he has only operated on this condition once and his colleagues who are older some even 60 years plus have only seen the case a handful of times. Apparently we are the only case he's seen in Glasgow since working at the children's hospital. It's comforting seeing these videos and comments as it gives me hope that I will be able to support my son if he has any questions as I've never heard of this condition and with it being so rare there isn't much information about it so thankyou guys for the comments, they've really helped me gain an insight to the condition ☺

I broke my scaphoid ~5 months ago unknowingly believing it to be a sprain which progressed to a non-union, my doctor opted for ORIF surgery with what I believe was a pin instead of a compression screw (The X-Rays don't show any threads) I was then put in a splint for 2 weeks followed by a short arm cast without my thumb and told I had to use the cast for an additional 6 weeks, I'm 2 and a half weeks into using my cast (which I told the doctors felt very loose but was reassured it was fine) but now the cast is slowly falling apart at the palm/thumb and I've had to try and stuff bandages down the sides of my cast to keep it from rattling around on my hand and causing wrist movement. I plan on going back to the hospital to get them to rewrap a new cast but because it's christmas time the government hospitals are currently closed... I'm getting pretty concerned that having such a loose fitting cast and having it breaking apart is now going to contribute to the bone not properly healing... And I swear if I have to wear another cast for any longer than is absolutely necessary I'm going to end up bloody hanging myself...

i feel you :( i had my surgery the 1st if december (non union - open surgery with bone graft) . First cast for about 3 weeks - up above the elbow with the thumb fully immobilized in the cast. My second cast is under the elbow , but still the thomb is immobilized. My next scan is end of January- hope to remove the cats and get a a simple removable brace. My cast very tight .
