Happy Early Fall my Friends! Annette and I once again took advantage of the beautiful weather we have been having here in the Ottawa Valley and went out for a boot on the buggy with a view to shoot a bird or two. Not much was moving presumably because of the warm weather but we managed to harvest one bird. Enjoy. Colin

Always great to get out and enjoy all our fall season has to offer...always seems to be over way too quickly.
WAY too quickly is right! Thanks for the comment.
Can I talk with you as a TH-cam SEO expert?
Some days I wish these areas really did have a ride to the top...these legs are getting older every day! lol Orange = Caution Ahead...in other words, if not young turn around while the turning is good! LOL Well now, look at that fabulous view!! Wonderful pops of fall for sure!! What an awesome family adventure!!
Thank you. It was a great day for sure. And yeah, it was not easy but we do it while we still can! Cheers.
Just totally gobsmacked at the memories, Many Thanks..... Last time I did that climb was with my Polish First Division war hero and Canadian Soldier dad when I was 12 yrs old in 1957. It was almost a complete bushwhack, no real trails, some blazes on the trees to mark the way and lots of bugs and sweat. We carried a poncho some food a couple of wool blankets, fishing gear an axe and a .22 and camped at the lake at the top that was only a few hundred yards north of where you were. Trout fishing the lake was the main purpose of the trip. Ate grouse, and trout . Of course, we did not have any Quebec licenses but there was an unwritten law that you were legal on both sides if you lived on the Ottawa and nobody bothered you. I hear that changed not long after I left Petawawa. A half track ran over my dad's feet when he was blown out of his tank during Operation Market Garden in Holland and he had pins in both ankles, but he sure could out walk and out climb me. I always felt he made me carry most of the gear...lol
This story Sir, brought a tear to my eye. I actually said to my wife before I posted it that you would like this one. We are so happy we can help bring you down memory lane, especially for epic memories like this. Your Dad was a Warrior to his soul. That much I feel. May he and his brother in arms rest in peace. Thanks for the comment my friend.
@@NTSAdventures A warrior he was, a soldier he was and his most treasured possession was a book on the Yukon which was given to him by an old Commissionaire on Montgomery Gate that was dedicated in very shaky handwriting "To a better Canadian than most that were born here"....Dad learned English
Dad learned English in Poland by reading Jack London's books on the Yukon and had great esteem for Canadian Soldiers and the Canadian military as his unit the 10th Dragoons of the First Polish Armoured Division closed the Falaise Gap in Normandy at the side of the Canadian First Divison. He was demobbed from the British Army as a battlefield commissioned Captain and we emigrated to Canada from Scotland. He then enlisted as a private in the RCRs to get into the Korean war. Base Petawawa in 1952 was a dusty sandpit and we first lived in the N lines which were H Huts converted into PMQs . It was a great place to grow up in...the base commander kept horses for his daughters and when they found out that my father had been a Polish Cavalry Sergeant he was drafted into teaching the English style of riding and dressage.
Several of his many British and Polish decorations and medals were only supposed to be given to and worn by commissioned officers and this always caused much consternation on Parade. The Canadian Army at the time had a very strict separation and class structure between commissioned and enlisted soldiers. There was even an Officer's Beach to the west of the concrete pier and the enlisted beach to the East.
That was a great day on the water Brothers,,, we need to look at a repeat performance shortly.
It was a awesome day for sure!
Great times being had out there today! Some pretty awesome stuff!!
Thank you Sir!
Great show tks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Forget the fish, I'm very impressed with that orange toque!! Jealous I am!! Looks like you too are having a beauty of a fall this year. We're usually in the midst of rain and wet and cold...this year not so much. Great day on the water for sure!
I love this hat my friend. My daughter made it for last year. One of a kind. Glad you like it!
Back in the Day, the only place in Southern Ontario to get Splake was Eustache Lake near Lake Traverse.... I think they eventually used those rare natural hybrid fish as a source of brood stock to propagate Splake in many of the lakes in Ontario. It was a 4 mile walk in from the railroad tracks... this lake is one of the deepest in Ontario and surrounded by cliffs. Fishing vertical from rocks on the shore at the one feeder waterfall, I ran out over over 50 yds of line with no bottom... Heavy little Delphin spoons... 4 pounders were common.... This fishery still exists... Glad to see Splake in one of our old trouting lakes near Bissette.
As usual very interesting Story. The ministry has done a great job in our area. Little Lake in particular has always produced at least some fish for us. It was nice that the majority of these fish were at least 2 years stocked, hence the meat was nice and pink from eating natural as opposed to the white 'corn meat' of the new stock. Thanks for your support kind Sir. My wife and I love your walk down memory lane with your comments. Cheers.
Are you fishing at flatiron
No Sir. Up Bisset Creek Road. Thanks for the comment and Support. Cheers.
Not a Fan of GoPro…I just use my iPhone for EVERYTHING! Happy to come along with you on catching walleye! My son inlaw was stationed in PET for a few years!
Hi Colin! Mr. Garry here with a BIG LIKE #6 for you Brother! Life is Good!
Welcome to the channel Mr. Garry! All are welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!. Just got off the water a few hours ago. We slammed Splake on a little inland lake. That video will be out Sunday if all goes well. Thanks for the comment fine Sir. CHEERS!
Really glad to see the fish are still there and the water clarity now seems quite decent... When they first built the pulp mill above Mattawa about 1960, the river became almost too murky with the fine pulp floating in it to fish, so we would go elsewhere. I remember getting upset (pissed) at motoring through 6 inches of floating pulp waste at the turn at Highview above Gibralter Island. I was in Petawawa from 1951 to 1962 then my father was posted to Wolseley Barracks in London Ontario and I only managed to get back to Petawawa twice in the years since.Still think often of the adventures I had growing up there. I was there when the engineers wired up a bunch of expired Second World War aerial bombs and set them off on Gust Plains and broke windows in Deep River and Chalk River.. Exciting that was. I think they were trying to simulate a tactical nuke....They never did it again...Darn. lol The bangs you heard fishing brought that to mind. Cancel
Such a great story. I had no idea that the water was so murky back then.
Used to anchor and jig that spot with live minnows in the late 50s about 6 inches above bottom with a slip sinker to a swivel and about 2 ft light 6lb. leader and #4 long shank hook... The fish always seemed lazy, you had to wait after you felt a tap to set the hook. Never caught much on June Bugs and worm harness or trolling with lures at that spot. Hard to get stuff to the bottom due to combination of depth and current.
You got that Right fine Sir. Not to mention the snags! Im glad you chimed in. I thought it was just me! Lite Biters for sure! Must be something to it. Cheers.
LOL...Naughty GoPro has a mind of its own! LOL Hard to let a great day go by without getting out and doing something. Does look like it is getting cooler out there. Still getting some pretty good catching though! One great way to spend the day! Hope you are having yourself a great Thanksgiving weekend!
Thanks! Yeah, so far fall seems to be coming to us gently for a change. Give Otis a hug from Maggie and I!
My favorite. I want to go to that last beach in the video

@@NTSAdventures and you also
Sure looked like a lot of fun...made even more enjoyable with some great catching!! Awesome!!
Thank you kind Sir!
Brother, I seen your comment ref my service, and can't help but to make a comment on your service to both the country and to those who live here, You have double up on your time in uniform my Brother. We both had the pleasure of standing beside great Soldiers, many who have gone on to lead Soldiers in both green and SOF units. Then shortly after you released from the CAF, you put on the uniform of the RCMP, and served them proudly for many years. To say that I am proud to call you friend would be an understatement. You are a true Brother in Arms, and a true Canadian. It's always a pleasure for Mari and I hanging out with you and Annette, that said, til next time, keep your powder dry Soldier.
A beauty of a day to get out and enjoy all the great sights along the Petawawa for sure! Gotta take advantage of as many good weather days one can this time of year as you never know when it's going to turn rather rough!
Keep them coming, checking out the latest episode with a cool bree in hand!
Thank you fine Sir. I'm glad you enjoy them.
Sure brought back some memories...The Petawawa enters Lac du Bois Dur at Forks Island North of Black Bay and we would go up it by canoe to fish bass and pike and hunt ducks in the fall. Now probably off limits to any travel... we also used to put in at Race Horse Rapids and pull out at Paquettes Landing.... lots of white water and always a wet trip.... The Barron River to First Chute, the trip you took, was always fun in our Cedar Strip and 18 Evinrude. Loved the cliffs. When the spring log drives were still on you had to be really careful of deadheads. We once hit one at full tilt and cracked a seam... only time we ever hurt that old Peterborough cedar strip. Once we actually portaged that boat to above First Chute... crazy we were...lol
Wow! My wife and I love your comments. Things were so different back then I'm Sure. Most people I know refer to the barron river up to the narrows as the Petawawa River even though it's technically the barron as you pointed out. Funny how things change. Thanks for your support.
@@NTSAdventures When I was 14 years young I saved up $7.50 and bought a sporterized .303 Lee Enfield Mark 3 with ramp sights from the Sears catalogue and proceeded to get a deer license by saying that I was 16. Ammo for deer hunting was (free )military ball .303 with 1/4 inch cut off the tip. Halfway up the river trip you took to First Chute on on the South side there is a little point on which you could camp and walk up to the top of the cliff where there was a deer trail beaten in from centuries of usage from deer. No heater and a Woods Canvas Tent with snow on the ground was always an early November adventure due to Ice on the river. Tagged my first deer there in November 1959. My father showed up at suppertime and the 10 pointer was already cleaned and hanging up at the camp and he was some amazed. Met this really old guy the next day from Alice Twp. who showed me his 1893 Winchester with an octagon barrel which he claimed he bought new when they first came out. He had walked in from the main road over the hills and said he was 87 years old. I thought then how great it would be, to still be able to hunt deer at 80. Muzzle loader season in NS opened on the 21st and I was out. lol
An amazing fisherman that passes on simplistic fishing techniques that anyone can enjoy!
Thanks Brent. We truly appreciate your support!
Nice Fish Annette

You are right! I think I will next week. Thanks.
Well, that was a very pleasurable day. Not sure how Otis would actually do on a boat as he hates the water.
Maggie does get bored in the boat after awhile. She just turned 1 and still wants to move! Thanks for the comment. Say hi to Otis for us.
