Jewish mourning customs are structured in a series of stages. Sheloshim is the Hebrew word for 30. As its name suggests, it lasts for 30 days counted from the date of burial. Orthodox and Conservative rabbinic authorities maintain that cremation is prohibited. The Reform movement has adopted conflicting positions on this question over the years, but the most recent rabbinic opinion on the subject states that while cremation ought to be discouraged, the practice is NOT considered sinful. I have never known if a cremation in the Orthodox community. Do you see this rise in mostly reform, or do Conservative Jews also wish this service as well?
My family tears clothing. I wish you had covered Chevra Kadisha and the Tahara. These are beautiful rituals and very important. We cover mirrors, recite Kaddish, a beautiful prayer in Aramaic, not Hebrew.
