I had a Lawful Evil Oni Monk in a game once. I ran her as someone that works with criminals but knows we need the world in somewhat peace and whole so that she could run her enterprise. And the rest of the party was good and or neutral. We worked together and unfortunately the game fell apart but you can totally run an evil character with a game.

In terms of party size I think it’s very dependent on the DM. For me; I struggle with a party size that’s less than 4 or greater than 5. But I know at least one DM who thrives with 6+ players, and another who gets stressed out with anything more than 3 or 4 (4 is stretching it). Weirdly enough: I actually do fairly well with 1 or 2 players but it turns into more of a fluid storytelling session. Where they are involved and participating. But ultimately they are watching me tell them a story that these characters are involved in, and visualizing what’s happening. In more of an around-the-bonfire moment

Just hearing how many issues you guys have had with Etsy, and the issues I've seen in the American Girl doll community people have had with it, I'm convinced not to use Etsy to sell the clothes and wigs I plan on making for those dolls. I'm going to use eBay since I've already got an established selling account with them. That way I don't have to deal with the nightmare of Etsy. Long time listener first time commenter. Thank you for this podcast. Its so refreshing to hear your takes and advice. As a girl who is 1 year into her dnd journey, i was so worried about finding a group and getting out there. I listened to your horror stories and AITH and took in the advice. I joined a game store and went for a few adventureres league modules. I went to a few tables in a few months. But landed on the one i have been with for over 6 months. We are now all friends and play at the store one week and do a home game the next week. Ive found soke genuine friends in a time that i really needed it and i dont think i could have done it without this podcast. Thank you both for everything ❤

best is a party of 5 so up to 2 people can be missing and you can still have a decent session. Even better - have a session every 2 weeks and have one of your players DM a game on the off weeks where you get to play! (Had that for a while and it is Sweet As!)

I run a table for 6 currently and have run campaigns for 7 and 8 I actually prefer large tables it reduces game cancellation (we rule that as long as there are 4-5 players we can play), this campaign has been going for 2 years, my 8 player one went for 5, and we got plenty of “moments”

We have 6 players in my AS campaign and it can be hard to balance rp moments with each player, but my group is really good at making sure the quiet one gets their spotlight and isn't forgotten. When we ran our session .5's it actually was harder for me because my group loves Roleplay and deep world building so it was more demanding. During our sessions I find myself sitting down and listening more often than not, just being there to state rolls or guide things. It's actually really nice.

In story 2: the first time the DM said the homebrew class was too OP for the campaign the player should have accepted the ruling. Like, I've had plenty of scenarios where I disagree with the DMs ruling but they're the DM and when it comes to game mechanics it's their game and you have to concede.

I implore you to take these three months and keep Etsy closed. Get a ko-fi open where you can offer your goods in a shop and it even has a section for commissions.

I take so many notes, I work so hard to organize them and put them in context and order of events form from sessions. If someone touched them…words couldn’t describe how angry I would be.

The last story's player has the energy of a kid playing tag who calls Time Out just before getting caught. Just trying to be the "winner" without any of the work.

I allow almost anything from third party books (Kobold Press, Ghost Fire Games, Hit Point Press, etc). but if they want something truly homebrewed, I tell them it's subject to change as we go.

So many people misunderstand the horn bard trope. The overly horny behavior is a character FLAW, not a feature. It's usually some sort of trait that the character is using to mask an insecurity or something. If it's the only personality trait your character has, you're going to annoy everyone at your table.

With those sorts of RP moments, I like to give just a much lower DC if a genuine point has been made during the conversation. I will still require the role but more than their persuasive ability, I'm gauging the PCs receptiveness to the good argument.

Unless this person is a professional actor i see no real difference between a 500 year old character and a 5000 year old character i think the DM should've just let them have that part

For a few minutes I thought I was the subject of the Age Restriction AITA 😅 I was in a similar situation where I was basically given an ultimatum. "Change your characters age or leave" for context I wanted to play a retired courtier Shadar-kai (500 years old) and I was only told I could not play a very young character. I ended up leaving because I felt like I wasn't going to be able to compromise for the concept I wanted to play. On topbof other issues and homebrew rules I was not keen on.

I have a DM that's fairly recently stated he doesn't run passives at all. Which is a problem for my charecter as that was going to be her thing outside of combat, she's a martial in a magic heavy campaign (war of the burning sky) This decision has kinda just stuck a spanner in the works for my build path as observant was something I was gonna take to help get my wis mod up. Oh and now instead of passives it's an active roll using your action. 😢

I relate to the second story in regard to having a character who is ancient. With mine, he is from an age so old it is not written in modern times (for various reasons). To get around this, it was revealed that he was born due to being tied to the God of Fate and for this reason, every so often throughout his life when massive events happened, his mind was split in two and one half was sealed inside along with his memories. Effectively it was a character that I created along with the DM whose backstory grew over time as things were revealed. Turned out fantastic and did not infringe on the 6 other players' backstories. It's hard and niche, but possible if done correctly.

It's a very nitpicky thing, but I kinda feel like you should acknowledge the fact that you changed your mind about stuff that was already agreed. It at least sounds from the recall that the OP just said "btw, I don't want your character be over 500 years old", without even mentioning that it was previously allowed. I realise that it wouldn't change anything, it's just a bit of a pet pive of me
