    Hey there. Thank so much for the great video. It looks really good. I can tell you've put a lot of work into it. So far this is the only video I've watched of yours, so if you already knew everything I put down below please excuse my ignorance. Just wanted to give another way due to what you said towards the end. Although I did subscribe so I can come back and watch some more another time. But if you didn't know it and you have questions feel free to ask. I'll help all I can. Hope all is well. I use casting epoxy. It is a 2 part but it's simple to use and layer as well as create the ripples you wanted. You can use acrylic paint to tint it (to get the depth look you want) or doing clear like you did over your painting. To get the ripples tint a tiny bit bit white in a seperate little cup. Put a small line down and either use a stir stick to blend out the edges or a straw to blow it around. Add to your eyes desire( unless you have a problem with your too-much-gene, like me, lol) I first started out with "Alumlite" at WalMart. In the craft paint section in the craft area. They have a small starter kit that includes parts A & B as well as cups, stir sticks and gloves. That brand has done me well and my fall back if I run out and have to wait on a shipment. Tips for smoother mixing and to help with bubbles is 30 mins before using it, pop the bottles in some warm water to heat it up.

I bought the boxes when Walthers had them on sale then my Dealer put them back fro me, when I needed more I went to my Dealer & pick them up. 10 boxes of 33 4 boxes of 36.Some of my newer stock already had wheels & couplers. I had a number of Talgo type trucks so I had to change those too.

      Couple of thoughts on this: how thick is the scenery that you're gluing? You may be doing too much at once. And, what type of surface? I have done scenery on both plywood and foam board and never had a problem BUT I also paint the surface material first to prevent it from soaking up the IP and glue. Perhaps that has something to do with it as well. Sorry if I'm not much help here.

      @muffelmeierheinrich 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@themillrunandwesternmaryland11 Thanks for the quick response. Painting the surface before adding any texture or landscaping sounds like a good idea that should eliminate or minimize any shrinkage or warping. I'll try it out on a scrap/rest piece of foam. My little project will be made entirely of foam and is intended to swim as it the harbor from the island of Wangerooge on the north coast of Germany. It has a narrow gauge railway, a docking area for ferries, a rescue boat and a ramp for cargo vessels. The overall length is around 3,6 meters and 1 meter wide, although all of the sections will all be 600cm long for transport. The sections all connect with magnets and aligning pins made of polystyrene, also all sections will be covered be polystyrene around the perimeter. The railway will not be powered, rather the train itself will be carrying a Lipo and a micro RC receiver. Just like all of the vehicles and vessels that operate on it. I convert 1/87 scale cars and trucks to RC and recently started working on a landing craft ferry. Last year I got the chance to operate my vessel for the first time with another "micromodeller" in the model boat pond in Cuxhaven. He mentioned that now that I have a vessel, now I need a harbor. Just last month we met again and he was very encouraging for my idea of the harbor of Wangerooge. Search for the video Minihaven 2022, from mikromodell.eu I am trying not to rush the project but I am certainly being confronted with materials and methods that I have never used before.

Many model railroads later, I now rely upon Bachmann Grey road bed E Z track. Have a nice day.

    • @themillrunandwesternmaryland11

      Most locomotives will have a minimum radius listed that they proform best on. Steam locomotives are affected the most by this (2-8-0 wheel arrangement and up). Some may have "blind drivers" and will do better than others. Rolling stock typically will run on any radius, but keep in mind the longer the car the more it will hang over the tight radius curves... if that makes sense?

      You can buy two power leads, and screw the two round eyelets for transfor connection to a piece of wood. Or as I did, buy some female spade connectors, and make my own double ended power connection. I also made my own polarity reverser using a latching double throw relay, reed switch on a insulated piece of track, and a small neo magnet glued under the loco. Just use you imagination. Can get everything you need at a lot cheaper than what bachmann market them for. At my dcc turnouts, I added bi colour 3mm LEDs, red/green to show if a track was open or closed. Polarity shifting from the frog, and a small rectifier, resister to suit. Dcc is Not AC power. It's phase swapping DC. A simple pwm signal.

Then I either put it on some cardboard or a permanent load with some Woodland scenic tack, I just brush on a nice layer, get crushed up coal and pour it on the tack. Then I tip it over to let the extra fall out. I then rinse and repeate that 5 times and the coal looks great!

    Another key thing to consider in buying used locos is of their parts availability. If its obscure, the likelihood of replacement parts is low. Also like what you said in the video with Proto 2000, I also have a FA-2 in the PRR Brunswick green scheme that had cracked gears. Proto 2k were for the most part, Athearn clones so Athearn axle gears fit in there perfectly and I havent had them crack since. I do have a small collection of Proto 2k locos (13 total) and only that FA-2 had the gear issue. Recently from a swap meet, I did score a proto 2000 steam heritage USRA 0-6-0 switcher with DCC and sound. I did previously hear that these models are excellent quality and have good reliability, luckily there was a test track and the model ran like a swiss watch so I bought it for 100 dollars. Normally on Ebay, these go for over 200+ dollars.

    What I look for is. How rare is it? How many were made in the history of the model? The other thing I tried to look for is when was the last time it was rained on a layout orbit's completely gummed up and it doesn't want to run. Sometimes you come across the oddball. Locomotive. Something you don't see very often, but you want to take on a challenge and rebuild it from scratch. That's what I look for something that sync my teeth into as a project.
