What a reserve parachute deployment looks like
มุมมอง 76K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Performed by Matt Noyes at Skydive Elsinore's Ground Rush Rigging Loft. Container: Rigging Innovation's CURVE. VC3. It was time for my reserve to be re-packed, so I performed a reserve practice deployment.

My first hot air balloon jump, and my 100th skydive! The jump felt like leaping out of a spacecraft into the weightlessness of space! It was so surreal. Done with skydiver friends from Skydive Elsinore. Colin, Arya, Jess, Ross, Robbie, Cole, Mike, Chelsea, and Will! Thanks Ross for the video, and Robbie for the photos! Perris, CA. 1/29/22

Thanks for the video Tiffany! Tiffany, an Elsinore Coach, gave me great advice for this jump: Don't do anything. Not that I wasn't capable of doing things in the sky, bit this was going to be the first jump where I could take in the skydive experience FULLY, without the stress of having to perform. And that's what I did! and it was AMAZING! I could look around and completely absorb the sensatio...

My last AFF student jump, and the last jump with an AFF instructor! Now that I've completed this jump, I've graduated being a solo jump student. That means I've proven that I'm capable and knowledgeable enough jump out of a plane, unsupervised, and not to injure/kill myself or others. The next step is to get my A-license! Once I get that, I'll be cleared to jump and fall with other people. I'll...
AFF Level 7 - CANNONBALL EXIT

Level 6, I showed that I could exit a plane stable. In Level 7, I need to show the instructor that I know how to regain stability if my exit is unstable. To do this, I CANNONBALL out of the plane. Once stable, the next step is to show that I know how to regain stability if lost mid-freefall. This is done by performing a back flip and barrel roll during the dive and regaining stability and check...
AFF Level 6 - First Unassisted Exit!
มุมมอง 6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Although I still had an instructor watching me and nearby during this freefall, this was the first skydive I made where I was not held onto during the exit! The instructor here is making sure I know how to safely and stably exit the plane, and I did so very successfully! Huge thanks to my jump instructor, Nadav Shwartz, at Skydive Elsinore. Onto Level 7!

This is the most fun jump I've had yet! Not only did I pass my level 5 jump, but I did well enough that my instructor came in for an unplanned high-five and dock! Thanks to the best skydive instructor I've had: Sara, at Skydive Elsinore! I got great coaching and feedback from her. Onto Level 6, my first SOLO EXIT!

    Would a reserve parachute work in emergency situations? Like if someone was paranoid about flying or someone working in a really tall building? They also seem to work how people imagine a parachute works and don't need a container.

    • @JohnDoe-fg9ng
      @JohnDoe-fg9ng ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's right. The right handle is the cut away handle, and then second is the reserve handle. Often time people have a RSL or reserve static line rigged on their cutaway, so that way their main is automatically deployed when you cutaway. Some people opt out of the RSL in order to have manual control for rarer circumstances where you might not want the reserve to immediately deploy. It looks like in this case they did not utilize an RSL.

    Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm currently in AFF and had a similar experience but in Level 2 which I then had to repeat and then passed. It's pretty overwhelming with so many little details you need to remember up there and the arch body position just feels very unnatural in some way. After I failed I was pretty nervous, just like you - not because of jumping out of the plane but because of the stress and worry of doing a mistake again.

    Amazing jump and thanks for sharing! I had a terrible experience on jump 1. I was going to go back and try again the next day. But after a few recommendations of doing tunnel, I spent 18 minutes in the tunnel. The instructor in the tunnel was great and the last two minutes of tunnel we spent them trying to get me off balance and recoup. Went back for a retake and passed two and three without any issues. I would highly recommend tunnel time to anyone who is considering or is struggling with any of the levels. I know some that "get it" right away and don't take time for the tunnel but for the rest of us it is an amazing tool to help you.

      I'm a bit late to this, but if you haven't already, look up nearby drop zones. You can call them, or many of them have websites that allow you to schedule tandems and/or aff If you're lucky, you may also have a vertical wind tunnel nearby. Indoor skydiving is a great way to learn how to become stable in the air, and progress beyond just flying on your belly Hope this helps c:

    I like how most instructors do a little bit of backflying to see if the students canopy deploys nicely, but to be honest, if it doesn't, what are you going to do about it ? I guess you can quickly land and run to where the student is going to land and see if they need help.

All customers, even if they have a lot of experience and cut-aways should practice EP on their own equipment. Even if I'm not happy with two hands on one handle method, still I like it. Even if I'm not happy with throwing the PC 90° to the body, still it's good example. We are not afraid of perfection, we can't rich it ;) Have a safe and nice skydives Matthew! Good job!

      I’m a lowly scumbag scraping by so I can return to AFF jumps, so what do I know, right? On my jumps I focused on bringing the pilot chute up do 45 degrees and “throwing” it there at arms length, not because I was instructed to, but because I saw a video of a malfunction where the bridle wrapped, by pure luck, around the leg of a AFF student. Sounds like a hell of a ride if the main gets out, right? The instructors unwrapped it and the main was deployed. I think it is one of the freakout Friday’s videos. As for the two hands on handle thing, it is the procedure taught on my DZ, so I follow it and practice it during the AFF, but I don’t like it at all. Maybe the reason for that procedure is that weaker and inexperienced jumpers will not pull the handle up to release the Velcro before pulling it at arms length, or the nylon cables might be pinched, so better play it safe with two hand’s strength. Or they might punch the reserve in the wrong sequence because of lack of coordination. Giving priority to cutting away with the two hands on the handle might save some milliseconds, and you will most probably be in a malfunction where MARD will prevail over the reserve pilot chute anyway. I practice a lot of up-to-unwrap-Velcro-the-punch on the ground, and I will probably default to the look-locate cut away handle, look-locate reserve handle, chop, punch reserve. It just feels “right” to me. I’ve been biased by Australians. :)

    • @SkydiveAtmosfera
      @SkydiveAtmosfera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jump-n-smash You are completely right with autocorrection of pulling main PC. Also emergencies with one hand on one handle is much more better then both hand on one. Keep going that way of skydiving. Reflection, thinking about good plan of skydive is the art of the preparation!

      It’s best to wear clothes that aren’t the prettiest when skydiving anyways as one can get dirty jumping all day quickly and also holes happen so a lot of skydivers patch their clothes and focus on less materialistic things like fashion and more on function and gaining experience. Especially if they’re doing different kinds of jumping that require different clothes/ suits.

    See! No RSL needed! And they NEVER are! If shit is hitting the fan and (so are you, because) you're now spinning, it'll yank your reserve out at the worst time. I think there should be a super easy way to disable an MARD if you decide you need to. I'm being a little hyperbolic at the beginning, I know Skyhook/mard's/rsl's etc save people's lives..sometimes.. But seriously for anyone they should have the easily instant option to disable it at any time in the profile

    • @H0b0sexual

    Just trying to figure out the NEW system; old days, we jumped until comfortable, and assessed by JM as competent. I was off static line after 5 jumps; and student status after 15 jumps; we didn't need to apply for the "A", "B" rating, but we had to complete those requirements; I applied for my "C" rating after 50 jumps and passing the written test. Attempted "D" license (water jump was great), but after doing several "instructor" jumps, I saw it was too stressful for me, having students not listen, or just DUMB panic. I stayed with just jumping with friends. C-12318
