“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is a well known saying that might not literally be true, but does reflect the fact that apples are generally good for you and can be found for free in the wild at this time of year (August to October).
They are one of those things that you might not have noticed much before, but when you do you’ll realise wild apples are surprisingly common! Many may have skin blemishes on them but they are still perfectly good to eat.
As they hybridise freely and there are so many varieties, the only way to be sure if they are nice enough to eat or not is to take a bite out of one!
