"What was his crime?" "Oh, forgot to pay the parking tickets he did."
Sweeney if he was observant: Beggar Woman: "Don't I know you mister?" Sweeney: "Lucy!?"
2:30 his little smile 😊
George Hearn is one of the inspirations behind my own interpretation of Sweeney Todd... especially in "Epiphany"! th-cam.com/video/0GUJKpYfkBY/w-d-xo.html
love the descent into madness.
I was blessed to see this genius do this live in the early 90s, my favorite to ever touch this role.
What a brutal fucking performance.
Damn people, this is something to be applauded with a standing ovation, what makes me extremely angry is that les miserables 1985 Its original cast recording was not released in such high quality, nor do we even have a complete cast recording, many tracks are missing.
How do you do this every day and stay healthy as a performer?
Talent
Hearn is my favorite because he gives a million fucking percent in every scene, I love when stage actors are just like "fuck being even a little bit subtle" and go absolute fucking ape shit every opportunity they get. (No but for real, it makes the emotional bits hit so much harder. He's the only one I've seen so far that literally just _screams_ in horror when he realizes what he's done in the end. (As in the actor is _actually_ screaming and not just implying it)
Josh Groban doesn't scream the "what have I done?" but his scream on "Oh no! Oh god!" when it first dons on him is gut wrenching.
La scène du viol de Lucy n'est jamais agréable à voir pour des raisons évidentes mais il me semble que cette mise en scène atteint des niveaux d'horreur indescriptibles.
It's horrible how Lucy suffered so much (probably more than any other character) and all I can think everytime I see her entrance, no matter the production, is "She's so iconic 💫"
Singing like that whilst running up and down stairs? Athletes would kill for the fitness.
Now I am at a crossroads. Which is better? George Hearn's or Johnny Depp's?
Johnny: His softer approach gave Sweeney a more tender and genuinely tortured soul,
3:19 3:20 No Way!!
I thought the guy playing Judge Turpin looked familiar - he was the drunk guy from “Big Daddy” and the grandfather from “Road Trip”.
15 years of sweating in a living hell of a Trumped up charge.. 15 years dreaming i might come home to a loving wife and child!!!! *slam** Let them quake in their boots, Judge Turpin and the Beadle..for their hour has come...
2:35 Mr Todd was about to throw some serious hands with the Beggar Woman!
Now, that’s all very well…
But what are we going to do about HIM?
"Where's my wife?" "She poisoned herself!" "And my daughter?" "Judge Turpin adopted her!" "My cat?" "Got eaten by a dog!" "My dog?" "A stage-coach ran him over while he was eating the cat!"
Or “my goldfish? Eaten by the cat My cat? Choked on the goldfish
Thank you very much for share , excellent performance!
I was eleven when the Tim Burton movie came out. My mother allowed me to watch it once on DVD, just to get me to shut up and make me stop bugging her about it. 😂 When I watched the bonus features, they spoke about the stage version, I was enthralled. I found this version in full on TH-cam a week later- before all this copyright b.s occurred. Johnny's Sweeney didn't scare me as badly as George. Johnny's rage was simmering. George? Ticking time bomb, and he just explodes here. Nobody does Sweeney like him and Angela. Absolute legends. Now, imagine my excitement when I realized he was Red in All Dogs go to Heaven 2!
Why the Judge holding that bowl?
Someone once said that poison ivy’s entrance in Batman and Robin was the best villain entrance of all time. I would like to propose this instead

I really like Johnnie’s version since I grew up with that movie, but after hearing this I can see why people prefer this one.
The way his voice breaks at 1:00 when he talks about her being his reason and his life is just… incredible. George Hearn is my favorite Sweeney because of the raw emotion he brings out in the role.
Best version of this musical hands down
There was a barber and his wife... heartbreaking. Hearn and Angela rocked! Bravo!👏👏👏
2:38 me when I wake up at 1pm on a Saturday
Len George Micheal b Michael c Johnny and Josh all did justice to this badass legendary iconic villain song
One of the greatest badass villain songs of all time
The most terrifying performance of the most terrifying song in musical theater!
There are some bits here that was better then the Johnny depp version
Such a perfect performance.
Was the lyric different back then or was it a mistake that he said "tell ya why" twice?
I think it was a mistake!
For some reason I keep wondering why she grabs the chair too at :45 seconds..
For some reason ALL of Johanna parts are cut out from this playlist. You all really know how to just mess stuff up for no reason.
Angela Lansbury is the defensive Mrs Lovett.
Some people say George Hearn screams to much, but I disagree. I think when a person is literally going insane, that is how they feel. Also, Sweeney is based as an operatic character - more dramatic and exaggerated. It is necessary.
Sweeney Todd Musical (1982) Cast: George Hearn & Angela Lansbury
Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd (1982 Broadway Cast Recording)
I absolutely love his portrayal of this song and just sweeney todd in general, but I wonder why he sang most of the song in a different key than any other performance I've heard of the song?
Maybe they knew he could sing it higher so they changed it for him?
The fact that Sweeney can't stay on the same topic (or melody) for more than a minute is a genius way to show that he is fully losing his mind. This isn't some grand plan, this is a crazy person going over the edge.
George Hearn is so perfect on this song. That break in his voice @2:40 is just...ugh. That well of emotion embodies the role of Sweeny Todd. Its not just crazy throat slits, there's a well of grief in him and throughout the musical that, in my opinion, only Hearn ever really tapped into.
I like alan rickmans portrayal of turpin more, but i enjoy this one aswell
Here’s a fun fact for you the actor who played Toby is OLDER than the actor who played Anthony.
That’s interesting
It's american fork
Sweeney found exactly what he was looking for the second he got home. If only he knew it.
His body language alone in Angela’s “Worst Pies” number, made me want to buy the film of this, and I was sooo not disappointed. His rage, his voice and even seeing tears in his eyes at certain points, just made me fall in love with the guy. George is the best Sweeney Todd ❤
