What IS the Track Star by Dash-Board?
มุมมอง 2.2Kวันที่ผ่านมา
The Track Star is pretty hard to pin down. What began as a simple extra support for things hanging off the edge of a bench became a real all-purpose workbench accessory. Sure, it effectively makes your surface bigger wherever you need more support, but you can put bench dogs in it, use clamps with it, set our fences on them, locate a guide rail for rips and crosscuts, and whatever else your ima...

Oh now you're gonna make me get that long Festool shelf pin rail! 😂 Really smart setup on the Dashboard!
It makes shelf pin holes sort of fun because it’s so easy.
Anything that can make shelf pin holes actually fun is a good thing!
I have only seen you put out videos about the dashboard. I think a great marketing feat would be to give other youtubers the opportunity to test your product. I need more people explaining how to use this.
We will be working on that kind of relationship this year.
I’ve recently purchased the shortstop with all the toys… I’m learning to use the system as a recent move forced me to let my tablesaw go and I am using the system for well beyond “cabinets”. It might be fun to make a video on how I make it work for me (I usually do software videos… but have only avoided workshop videos as it takes some of the fun out of the hobby).
@PatJHeffernan A video from you would be great. Most hobbyists don't have the space for the bigger dashboard table. The smaller table will be okay for most.
@ I’ll see what I can put together. Sadly it won’t happen quickly as, as noted, I am a hobbyist. Being a new workspace, I’m taking time to establish capability/storage, etc. as it is needed.
Can I just use this smaller one instead of the bigger table? My space is too small for the bigger table.
The ShortCut is very capable and will suit many of your needs. It really depends on the scale of your projects.
@dashboardportableworkshop I don't build cabinets. Just wanna replace my miter saw and do cross cuts with the track saw.
Love this approach of using a single physical reference. I have always hated the idea of using two parallel guides and setting scales independently, which ends up introducing errors more often than not.
Thanks for mentioning it.:)
How long is the rail you use in this video? Prices go through the roof once you exceed the 1400mm on the festool rails. Can you connect 2x800mm rails or does using the hinge put to much stress on the connectors? How long is the rail you use for long rips? Right now i have 2x1400+ 1x800 and expect delivery of my dashboard in the next few days 😍
That one is 1600mm, and you will need 1600 at least, but 1900mm is even better because it gives enough extra length so you can plunge the saw before starting a cut. I have not had a chance to try 2 x 800mm on our guide rail brackets, but I don't imagine there would be a problem.
Great Products , Thank you and Thumbs up 👍
Bet it costs an arm and leg for that.
I purchased the whole system. I cant help but stand back and look it over every time i go out to my garage. The quality is that good. Thinking of all the ways it will benefit me. Ripping a sheet of plywood is no longer a chore. I don’t need 16’ plus the size of the saw itself. Which was a chore moving everything around (which then became a full garage clean up and organization task) Not having dedicated in feed and out feed tables made me lean over the saw . Having a track saw made it better, but I did it on the floor, which i got tired of quickly. The cut is perfect and not cutting thru the top is another reason i purchased the system. I can say I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase. Worth every penny, with all the engineering and thought that went into it. Quality is outstanding! Not a single burr or sharp edge on anything! Also being able to fold it up and put it aside when i need to work on my vehicles or paint something is another benefit as well. I am thinking of making a spot on my ceiling to hoist it up and down with a kayak hoist kit to put on solid brackets. Or just stand it up on edge easily. Great story Rob!
Thank you very much! I'm really glad the concept is hitting home with our customers.
Hello!-- I've been looking at your system for some time. I own the same corded Mafell track saw as demonstrated in this video. I find that I'm using the track saw most of the time now instead of my table saw; it cuts just as straight (with careful measurement and clamping) and leaves a better edge. The last time I used my table saw was for a dado cut-- in that case it was easier to swap out the table saw blade than figure out something with my router. Here's a question for you-- do you still use or prefer a table saw for any cuts? I just bought the Dashboard Hose Deflector on your site-- this is the one thing about the Mafell that drives me nuts when I use it-- I always have to work out the path of the cord and hose before the cut so they don't bind somewhere-- and sometimes the hose still binds enough that I have to stop mid-cut to free it. Fortunately the Mafell system is so precise that I can get away with this. I'm looking forward to trying this out.
Hey Chris, We actually got rid of our cabinet saw because we needed the space and it wasn't being used. I do keep a Bosch jobsite saw for occasional tasks. There are of course some use cases that can only be met with a table saw, but the vast majority of what I need to do happens right on the bench. Not having to hold something against a fence while it's also passing by the blade really helps keep cuts straight, and as you mention the results are cleaner. The Mafell saw arrived recently and I'd been a bit skeptical that it would really be appreciably better than all the others I use, but the thing is actually worth the price. It's great.
Your system is the best, the benchdog system from the UK the hinges seat on top of the table a big no no,cheers from Toronto Canada!!
Thank you !:)
Why is the hinge on top of the table a big no?
I did not know about the dashboard untill i read about it in the comments of a Benchdogs video showing their table that i was going to purchase. For me the Benchdogs table is just a stable nicer version of the MFT3. The Dashboard however is innovative and disruptive.
Any plans on an upgrade pathway for us Gen 1 folks for these new Gen 2 guide rail brackets?
We're starting to think about an upgrade kit or two for 2025.
@dashboardportableworkshop that would be soooooooo amazing if you do! Keep up the amazing innovations and thinking outside current standards/norms and making things even better!
How do you cross-cut 4 feet sheets?
This video shows Gen 1 equipment set up for wide crosscuts: th-cam.com/video/hwyvLGasUbo/w-d-xo.html The concept is the same now, but just using Gen 2 parts. We will make updated videos for Gen 2 starting this month.
Think I am going to buy one.
Using the D-B Outrigger Bundle on a Festool MFT/3 adds a stabilization bonus I did not expect. Much of the MFT/3 table wobble disappears.
OMG Rob! All my DB stuff is now obsolete! I'll have to order all new accessories! 😄
I wouldn't say obsolete, but we raised our game to reach the next level.:)
I agree with above. Just bought mine days before Gen 2 release! No more promos on previous Generation ? All Gen 2. How about ALWAYs showing both>
this appears to apply to GEN -1 as well?
It did apply to later Gen 1 benches as we made adjustments to our packaging, but we were honestly too busy to put up a video mentioning it then.
My Gen 2 Guide Rail Brackets are arriving today! I ordered them on the Black Friday sale with and ETA of mid December. They sent an email last week to let me know they were working as fast as possible to get this to me. I told them I appreciated the update, and the next day I got a confirmation email that they had mailed it. Appreciate these new videos Rob, but now I'm afraid the Track Stars are the next addition!
Thank you very much! They're on the shelf and ready to go.:)
Full sheet Break down video with the smaller bench? Lookinn through all your videos trying to find one with that. Thank you.
Thanks for asking. Starting with an intact, full sheet, there's a way to combine accessories and do that (4 Outriggers rather than just 2 - one on each end and two for the sides to have enough width to support the sheet at the beginning), but, strictly from a cost perspective, it would be less expensive to use a full-sized Dash-Board with the Platinum bundle for this. More videos to come soon, though.
The insert pin is now replaced with the blue spiral extrusion attached to the guide rail when it comes down and in contact with the setup block?
The front guide rail bracket is now modified from what is seen here. It accepts the SpiRail Dog now, which is a machined part.
I do like this, over my current fence, do wish had a longer version available though. Very nice!
They can be stacked end-to-end on the big bench.
Love the new outriggers, both the size and increased functionality. Any reason you didn't set them flush to the rails like the previous version? I felt like the rails gave the surface edges some protection.
They're made just like the benches, with the same top on the same extrusion so the tracks and work surfaces line up. This is really useful when they're placed on the end of a bench, so the tracks are continuous along the sides and our accessories can slide along wherever they're needed.
@ makes sense thanks!
These look way better than the previous version. The t-track on the outside of the outrigger is a massive improvement.
Yes! The ability to mount the track stars to the outriggers is huge. It will greatly increase cross cut capacity.
@ I would maybe suggest making the new outrigger table attachment hardware similar to that of the blue two pronged one from the track star. The outrigger t-bolt tends to wiggle around which slows down the configuration process.
We thought about that, but the bar would be very long and it's helpful to have the flexibility of separate T bolts during install and removal, because the floor/ground can vary and it's important to be able to tilt the Outrigger accordingly so the feet have more freedom to move across that surface.
@ Sounds like an upsell option for those on a level/mostly-level surface. :)
As always amazing videos explaining the simplicity of these Track Stars. Can you kindly explain why I would need a 2/4/6 of these and what are truly their purpose on long side of the table?
Thanks for your question. Please refer to our other videos to see Track Stars in many applications on the bench. Upcoming videos will further illustrate their utility.
I need this one, iam from india
We can ship to India.😊
Thank You Rob for this Great Product ,now i can order this in Europe . Its great an help me in my Shop ( Mft Table ) . I wish you all Good Time and all the Best . A Austrian Woodworker 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, Milan!

The threaded knob storage is a simple, but awesome feature
Thanks, Bob!
One of DashBoardsPWS best kept secrets is right here in this video holding down the Carbon Fiber parallel guides and probably the new the F2 fence as well. It's DashBoard's "Expand Dog" the amazing external expanding inverted collet or at least that's what I call it. There are so many other uses for these on any MFT top. You'll figure it out.
surprised you didn't include the festool MFT extrusion lip screws like on the hinge(gen1) not sure if gen 2 has them.
The T bar is a stronger connection, so those screws are not needed for the MFT3 now.
Have you already or are you planning to make a listing of the new Gen 2 parts, differences from gen 1, ability to upgrade older to newer, and what is or not compatible with older parts. Whew!
Tim, Thanks for asking. We should have a more comprehensive statement about everything in January, but, briefly, Gen 1 and Gen 2 fences cannot be mixed, and the Wingman only works with Gen 2 Track Stars. Gen 2 Flip Stops and Rip Stops only work with other Gen 2 parts.
@@dashboardportableworkshop Wow, lots of new parts. As owner of benches and plat package, it looks like I have a lot of parts non interchangeable, and yet would be beneficial to me.
Wingman, for example, is just and update of Super Track Star Plate, and functionally no different. We will bring in a few upgrade kits during the first quarter of 2025.
This is true. The Dashboard is hard to beat, maybe impossible. While many of the accessories are a bit on the expensive side once you get them in your hands, you'll fully understand why. I have spent a lot of time since I upgraded my Festool MFT enjoying it's new found accuracy, so much so I bought the DashBoardPWS Gen 1 and the Gen 1 outriggers among other great accessories. Now, I don't need my table saws hardly at all. No need for a long infeed or long outdeed space and nothing falling on the floor! I actually sold one of my table saws with it's Incra fence. Now a 4' x 8' x what the heck thickness ply sheet is no problem for the Dash-Board and a couple of Trackstars. Tilt it up onto the DashBoardPWS plus my Gen 1 outriggers and set it for the cut with the rip gauge and cut it. Repetitive cuts are no issue either. Rob and Michael appear to have done a very good job on the Gen 2 Dash-Board PWS although I have not seen one up close and have no current need. I have watched all the videos currently available. However, I find them somewhat lacking in detailed information but Rob, except in certain instructional videos sometimes he goes too fast. You must pay attention because it is actually all there even if it is not specifically mentioned. There are no manuals, no spare parts lists, as they are basically unnecessary. Rob warrants his products to be free of defects and stands behind what he sells. Even though I like specifications and detailed manuals more than most, I am a fan of the DashBoardPWS system as it is of extremely high quality. Ask all the questions you need to ask as Rob or Michael will respond fairly quickly.
Hello Rob ?what size are the rails at the table? m8 or m6 . Thank you 👍
M8 and M6 will fit our frame extrusion.
Brilliant set up. The best out there
Thanks!
So the Door and Panel Supports are not mountable to the Gen One (1) outriggers?
That's right. Gen 2 supports do not fit Gen 1 Outriggers. The platform from Gen 1 DPS would, however, fit Gen 1 Outriggers.
Hello! I am happy that their products are now available for sale in Europe. But I need the system for the Bosch guide rail. Unfortunately I can't find an option to choose that. Do you offer the system for bosch also in europe or only for festool ?
Milan, Thanks for your question. We have improved our designs for Gen 2 and there is no need to make a separate selection at checkout. We now include extra hardware for Bosch/Mafell rails in all Guide Rail Bracket hardware packs, and our SpiRail Dogs now fit all rails. To align guide rails on the bench, we base it off the splinter guard rather than the back of the rail, so all rails set up the same way with our Universal Setup Blocks. More videos are in process and all will be explained soon.
@@dashboardportableworkshop Thank you for your answer, I'll order a few hinges. Great. Jupii 👍
I just purchased the whole system after researching for months. I know quality when I see it and can’t wait to get creative again.
Thanks. I'm stoked by how well it all works.:)
love the ending. been using my accessories for almost a year now. love them.
love your system
Will the Gen 2 Outriggers work with the Gen 1 Shortcut? Just want to confirm thanks
Yes. There's no change to the bench frames so it's a natural fit.
wait the track stars almost adds 12 inches to the MFT. Thats wild.
🙏 Please economy. Gett better so I can get some dashboard gear
Our Black Friday sale runs through today!
I was where you are a few months ago and decided to just bite the bullet. I’ll report back when I have some experience with the system and what i think. Hopefully I’ll be receiving mine soon 👍🏻
You only live once! I bit the bullet. Quality and very well thought out and executed!
Can the front part of the guide rail bracket - where the spirail dog drops in - be mounted on the new outriggers? If so that would allow a tremendous amount of additional cross cut capacity.
The Guide Rail Brackets and Track Stars mount natively on Gen 2 Outriggers, just like they do on the benches. More to follow on this.
@@dashboardportableworkshopthat’s awesome. That should add at least another 15ish or more inches of cross cut. I’ll have to get a longer guide rail! 🤣
Using the trackstars for the fence is another great feature! Good work!
Thank you very much.:)
I just love these systems. Take the bench, two wingmans, and add the platinum set of accesories and you come up with a total price of $5697. If you already have a track saw then that gives you a much better system than a quality cabinet table saw system. Safer, will do more, and much better dust collection. Plus I love how it can fit against a wall and doesn't have to be out in the center of the room.
Thanks, Walter. Pricing is a bit better than your calculations, though, with a full sized Dash-Board bench and Platinum accessories bundle adding up to $4598. The Black Friday sale also runs two more days, and everything in this video is now updated to Gen 2.:)
If anyone is on the fence about whether or not this product is worth it, it is. I have the Get 1 versions of most all his accessories and they work as advertised. There is a bit of a learning curve as you have rethink how you approach certain cuts but once you have done it a few times, it's like second nature. This is much, much, much safer than trying to use a table saw to break down sheet goods accurately.
I don't have room for a table saw. Festool + Dashboard save the day for me, every day. 👍
We're really glad to hear it's working for you.:) Thanks!
Love all the finishes of your products.
Thank you very much!
Nice recovery, Rob 😂
Keeping it real....
