Dirk Flentrop was the best organ builder of the modern era

This account of Bach’s genial D minor re-working for organ of the fugue from the Violin partita G minor is very fine: reading the scores while watching, first that of bwv 1001, 2 and then of bwv 539, 2, is a good idea. A person familiar with the corresponding bars of the (later) organ work bwv 539,2 might expect to find an E natural on the last beat of bar 83 in the holograph MS of the original Violin Partita (G, F#, F natural, E natural, E flat) but Bach wrote two E flats. He notated the first E flat as an accidental and the flat sign looks intentional. Hmm!

Underrated interpretation The only one I found that read the first 3 notes in rhythmic context and not as pick up notes to the high note

Wow ! Excellent Bach idiom counterpoint. The completion of the BWV 573 fragment was very well done, although perhaps some parts of the 1st half moved ahead from the existing exposition in a not totally characteristic way. The 2nd half , is certainly a very interesting development, sort of contrasting flight of fantasy which proceeds quite naturally from the 1st half, is one of the better pieces I have heard composed in the syle of Bach !

Gorgeous playing. I recently found and have subscribed to this channel. I discovered Bach organ music from E. Power Biggs recordings on the Harvard University instrument , built by D.A. Flentrop in 1958. (The Holy Name Catholic Cathedral here has a 1991 Flentrop). From Chicago, U.S.A.

I played part of this for my organ teacher (90 years old, a former student of Anton Heiller and Gustav Leonhardt) and he said Bart Jacobs plays beautifully. High praise. I'm sure we'll be listening to the whole thing soon.

Bravo. Met enorm veel verbazing bekeken en vooral beluisterd dat iemand zoiets al improviserend, compleet met dubbel pedaal uit zijn mouw schudt... niet alleen maar verbijsterend knap maar ronduit zeer verwonderlijk... alsof het uitgeschreven muziek betreft...
