So if these things seem like common sense to you: congrats! You probably aren’t a beginner by any means.

    Are you not growing organically? If you are feeding your garden synthetic nutrient salts that's your biggest mistake

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes almost everything I grow outside is grown organically. I have other videos and tutorials on making compost, worm farming, etc. I’ve also published my organic topper mix many times on various social media. People generally know me as an organic grower.

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@freedomloveequality6593 Although I do use organic outside, I’ve been using synthetics for hydroponic cannabis for 18 years. I also went to school for horticulture. I once had an instructor (a PhD Botanist) put up microscope pics of synthetic NPK molecules as well as organic NPK molecules. He then said “Can you guys see the difference?” …crickets… Then he immediately said “Neither can plants!” The whole organic thing is kind of a scam imo. I know a guy who owns a cashew farm in Africa. His neighbors on all sides of him literally purchase “OMRI” organic stickers and put them on their avocados even though they are not organic. The hate on nutrient salts is unwarranted, and in a big part funded by the organic nutrient industry if you look into it. My 2 cents 😁

    • @freedomloveequality6593
      @freedomloveequality6593 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mallachtsplants myself I grow indoor cannabis with salts & have tried organics indoors but alas it's not the best suited for artificial indoor environments specially because of rate of growth & overall yield. Truth be told terpene levels in organic soil grown truely outshines salt grown hydroponic any day. I've done side by side comparisons. However outdoors in mother nature organics are the best, for mostly all plants unless you trying to cultivate fruit trees in pots then salt fertilizer may be of value. I've seen the damage salt fertilizer does to the soil & microbes & it's a no brainer. Organic growing is the highest path for growing plants there is no question. Like I said for indoors in artificial conditions then the artificial fertilizer has its place but still there are nuances that synthetics just cannot bring out

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@freedomloveequality6593 We'll have to agree to disagree here brother. As I said, I went to school for this and have been practicing horticulture for almost 20 years. If you read the story above about a PhD botanist saying how plants literally can't tell the difference, and you had an open mind, you would rethink your unwarranted assumptions a bit. But I get it, people go "Synthetic = bad" even though the entire organic industry is literally a scam. I even gave you a from the horse's mouth story on how people completely cheat the OMRI system, which is the main standard. I have taken advanced soil classes, and tested soil before and after using synthetics. As with all things it is about a balance. If you are using far too much, sure, it kills biology in the soil. But if you are moderate about it, it doesn't even kill worms, which are very sensitive to changes in their environment. I've seen it with my own eyes.

    The areoles have the highest concentration of hormones as opposed to the skin. It's best to bury the cutting and have as many areoles buried as possible. For instance, Bruce's dragon will root much better if more areoles are buried. If you lay you cutting on its side it will root from the areoles first.

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      PC is a cultivar, so yes it is indeed a clone. There is only one PC. It merely stands for “Predominant Cultivar” so it is the one that has been propagated and spread around the most. By far the most common Trichocereus clone, and typically the only one found at big box stores like Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, et.

    • @nico.salcedo
      @nico.salcedo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mallachtsplants Thanks for the answer! There's this concept of a cultivar-group in which members of a group are united by a distinct common trait. I wonder if that could be why people might call Landfill glorified PC. In recognition of similar morphological traits. Total speculation on my part. Just imagine selectively breeding PC seedlings that look like PC for multiple generations and referring to them all as belonging to a PC cultivar-group. More of a umbrella classification rather than a specific clone cultivar designation.

    • @mallachtsplants
      @mallachtsplants 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nico.salcedo Just to clarify once more, there is no “PC cultivar group” only “PC” the (overly) cloned cultivar. The whole Landfill thing started as a joke tbh, and a ton of noobs took it seriously. As far as I know, no one is breeding PC looking plants, there really isn’t that much control in Trichocereus breeding. Oftentimes 2 short spined T pachanoi are bred, and the offspring all have long spines. It’s not quite like breeding cannabis, or other flowering plants where the traits are more straight forward.

    Darn I planted my cactus on top of the gravel soil and supported it should I leave it or bury it a little deaper

      I would bury it as deep as necessary to ensure that the cactus won't fall over. Also, I would never plant directly into gravel. If you can dig a bit until you get through the gravel and into the soil, that would be more ideal

    Insect Frass and Crab Meal both contain Chitosan which create microscopic reactions with the plant tissue that tricks the plant into thinking it is being attacked by insects. This causes an immune response from the plant that hardens sugars and cell walls that make it difficult for other insects to be able to get what they want from the plant. I use Hyshield from Sipco for this on my plants.

      Thanks for posting this info. I was well aware of this, I try to keep the content to a beginner level. :) Excellently worded and articulated though, thanks again.

      Is this actually detrimental to the long-term health of cacti? The reason I ask is I use a fertilizer called Mega Crop which contains Chitosan Oligosaccharides.

      @@quintinwoods6615 Supplying Chitin/Chitosan is almost always going to be beneficial for most plants. It triggers an immune response which will contribute to the overall health of the plant indefinitely. It makes the plant harder/firmer to the touch and Strengthens the stem. 'Silica' is another fantastic element to have in the mix. It will also harden the plant, strengthen the stem, and prevent pest damage but it does so via other avenues. Many plants that appear to "crave" or be deficient in calcium actually just need silica. It is so beneficial that there is talk of adding it to the list of essential "micro-nutrients" for plants.
