You know, this seems like a dedicated, talented teacher who really believes what she says. But these ads completely obscure what CTA, or any union, should be about: TO PROTECT TEACHERS from the many bad actors who would do them professional or fiscal harm. CTA is not here to tell us to be inspired and inspiring; it’s not here to support kids; it’s not here to represent students’ interests at all. Students already have two entities to represent them: their parents, who do it because they love them, and the district, who do it because of extreme legal repercussions if they don’t. Teachers are represented by neither. We are hated by parents and the district couldn’t care less whether we live or die. The union is the ONLY entity that represents us, and its entire job is TO represent us, full stop. Parents, students and taxes do not fund CTA: we do. That means CTA has no business getting into advocacy of any kind other than advocacy DIRECTLY related to protecting the teachers who pay them!!!!

This organization just assisted an admin by walking the hallway to find my replacement as department chair the week before I was publicly humiliated when the admin wiped all math classes off my schedule, pushing me out of my department, removed from my leadership position with stipend removed. This was after five department chairs resigned and I assisted this organization to file a grievance. They allowed for the file to be destroyed and left me all alone to deal with the aftermath of it all. I am a 20+ year veteran teacher who has taught every grade level and led teams of people across our district who developed and implemented an intervention program that brought every failing math student to proficiency this year. I am now no longer a math teacher, leader, uninvited to even teach summer school on my campus. This organization has absolutely ZERO influence in protecting teachers. You are better off to sign up with AAE for $19.50 a month with all the same liability insurance coverage and put your money into a life insurance policy that will double your income at retirement. I paid over $20,000 into this lame excuse of a union and they completely abandoned me this year. The chapter president even brought donuts to the lounge on our campus the same week my next door neighbor who was targeted all year got her walking papers. They actually assist the administration now to push out teachers who are 20+ veterans on the higher end of the salary scale. I never in my wildest dreams would have thought I could witness something as corrupt as what we just witnessed on our campus.

How about people learn to speak English. If your going to live in America. Learn the language. Anyone who refuses to assimilate to a new country are most likely illegal invaders!

This is a mind-numbingly dumb idea. When I moved to this country, (as a young adult, mind you) my ESL teacher didn't bend over backwards and learn MY native language to accommodate and communicate with me. No! She taught me ENGLISH, which is the language spoken here in these United States. And she did that by way of immersion. In fact, you'd get unofficially monetarily penalized if caught conversing with a compatriot in your native tongue. THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT! This is so incredibly idiotic that I can't even find words for it. WANNA LIVE HERE? ASSIMILATE! Learn the darn language!
